    OMG I used to listen to this every day last year when I was learning this etude because this is my favorite interpretation. I don’t remember any large number of dislikes back then. It is so funny because you would expect there to be many negative comments in addition to dislikes, so I think maybe someone created many accounts just to press dislikes because he or she has something against this guy. It is really puzzling. So many dislikes so suddenly and no negative comments to go with it. Anyway, this is for me the best performance of this etude and I love it!

      No he doesn't. You're right. I don't understand why ill will seems to follow him. I like his playng ENORMOUSLY, because it's vigorous, manly, passionate, sincere, and brilliantly articulated. His etudes frankly are second to none. His etude in thirds is the best I'v ever heard, and I've heard EVERYINE'S. Also in his favor he has a great, natural unaffected stage presence. Not only that he's also GOOD LOOKING. Wha more do people want? That said there is not ONE bad pianist among all the contestants, and I'm glad I didn't have to choose among them as to who deserves to win a prize.

      @@ikeezike7602 It’s not supposed to be played in triplets, the triplet looking notes in the right hand are shown to try and make the notes look more clear. Chopin did not exclusively say that h the e right hand has to be played I triplets.

      @@juanjuan5698 Chopin is emphasizing the polyrhythm. He could have easily wrote 8th notes if he wanted to. Him making it more clear has nothing to do with it. The reality is that the piece becomes very easy and loses the sense of etude when played in this way Because it makes it so much easier to play. Chopin knew what he was doing when he wrote it. It was intentional

    • @juanjuan5698
      @juanjuan5698 Год назад +1

      @@ikeezike7602 I am currently learning the piece and have experimented with triplets. Initially I played it kind of arrhythmically, and then I saw the triplets and began working on implementing the triplet type of rhythm on the right hand. I can say it is harder but it isn’t much harder to play triplets than not playing it. I began comparing my recordings to the pros, and realised that they didn’t play triplets, so no emphasis 4 times each bar, rather putting emphasis 2 times each bar, so after 6notes emphasis is placed. Although playing triplets made the piece sound more rhythmic, it clashed with the rising and descending arpeggios where it is supposed to sound ‘flowing’. When triplets are played it almost sounds galloping rather than flowing; how the piece was meant to be played. Now, the triplets are quite nice to flash off at different points of the piece just to reveal the backbone of the piece and make it sound nicer.

    I believe the reason there are so many dislikes (mine among them), is that this pianist has TOTALLY MISSED Chopin's interpretive intentions in this performance's PHRASING. Take a look at the score - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89tude_Op._25,_No._2_(Chopin)
    It's written as 2 groups of eighth-note triplets over 1 group of quarter-note triplets; basically, an elaborate variation on 2-against-3 rhythm. This guy's phrasing such that he's playing the notes as as 3 groups of 2 eighth notes (NOT as triplets) over 3 quarter notes. The subtle, 2-against-3 rhythm is completely absent which makes this a very banal performance.

      More information about the proper performance of this subtle, lilting, and beautiful piece:
      "The main difficulty with this work is that it is all too easy for the piece to fall into a false rhythm; the work is in 4/4 time, but it is very difficult for the pianist not to make it sound like six beats in the bar. The skill on the part of the pianist therefore, is to make the first note of each right-hand triplet very slightly detached and accented without disturbing the fluidity of the piece. Not only does this require a sensitive touch, but it also requires excellent legato playing, for, except where marked, the sustaining pedal must not be used. The central section, although short, does contain conflicting dynamics that are a reminder of Op.10 No.12, where crescendos in one hand must coexist with diminuendos in the other. This work should therefore be considered a mind exercise in that each hand must operate almost independently of the other; the triplets in both hands must be heard, but the 4 beats in the bar must be clear to the listener along with the sometimes conflicting dynamics that serve to bring out the left-hand counterpoint melody, especially in the central section."

      @sophies5141 5 лет назад +5

      This is such a low level comment. Of course he plays the triplet in the right hand. But it is also so subjective and it depends on how you listen to it, and once you "heard" it as two or three notes it is difficult to change the perception. But of course, you have the right to your opinion. I personally love it that it is in my mind a clear triplet in the right hand, or even more so, 6 notes in a row.

      There are plenty etudes no one plays strictly, especially op.10 no.10. Almost every pianist I’ve heard ignores the varying accents in the a flat major section.
