Thank you so much, the guitarist is the late great South African guitarist Ray Phiri. There is an amazing guitar lines he plays with his band Stimela in a song called Fire Passion Ecstasy I wonder if you can show us how he plays that. I’m told Paul Simon heard that song and invited him to play in Graceland.

Thanks for this, my mum used to play me Paul Simon when I was a toddler and ive taken a break from my usual playing to start learning some of her favourite songs. Thanks for this lesson it really helped nail the opening sweep and first bar, that rhythm is kinda hard to get without repetition. This riff is a great lesson for your little finger, playing this standing up reaching for that 13th fret E with your pinky is kinda challenging for me but im getting it now.
I am also trying to work out what one of the other guitarist is doing at the 1991 Concert in Central Park but it so hard, the footage is pretty poor quality but hes playing along with this riff in a kinda higher register with some twiddly bits which sits nicely over Ray's rhythm part (this part). Paul just plays the acoustic backing with a capo using open chords but theres a really nice subtle lead part I am trying to figure out if anyone can help? I have the footage I can share, the audio is great, infact you can listen to this concern on Apple Music and Spotify, just check out the Concert in Central Park 1991 Paul Simon, its a mix of Rhythm of the Saints and Graceland, the band he has are incredible.

I'm 63 and had my head stuck in classical guitar manuals for 40 years - bored stupid with it and would like to learn something more poppy - thanks this is a great start ..

  • @supreme-fortnitefunnymomen6050

how do you get your guitar to sound like that? is it just the guitar type or is it the amp? also if it is the guitar does someone mind telling me which one it is? thank you so much

I'm playing a Stratocaster-style guitar using the middle and neck single-coil pickups, then a clean amp sound with reverb and chorus effects.

Isn’t the guitar style the Congolese style even though he sang with Ladysmith Black Mombazo? You’ll know what it’s called

Have you heard the Rhythm of the Saints album with Olodum and Carlinhos Brown on it? Carlinhos Brown is basically the best singer and musician in the world. He sings even better than he drums or plays guitar or piano.
