I met a malinois Shepard mix this weekend who was once a police dog. She suffered from ptsd from being shot. She was on death row and almost put down because she was no longer able to fulfill her duties as an officer, until my friend adopted her. 45 minutes before she was euthanized. She is now living in a loving and happy home. Recovering from her suffering and being treated with care and respect. You can see the pain of her past in her eyes, but she tries her best to be happy. I love this dog and have nothing but respect for her. It inspires me to adopt an old service dog someday.

These are the true Gods of War! I grew up with a mal, my grandma's dog. That dog was so smart.
And patient apparently, he was in charge of babysitting me when I wandered out on the mountain. Always gentle, alert and never left my side. He was sleek and absolutely beautiful.
    I adore these dogs.

Commentary - I was out waking and mother with 2 children were walking with their malenois, which was totally off leash. The dog was "human", enjoying the walk, enjoying the family. As the dog walked by me I tried to get its attention maybe to pet the dog. The dog was impossible to distract, maybe saw me with side eye, was 100% focused on going back and forth with the family. The children obviously loved the dog. The mother gave quiet comments to the dog that the dog obeyed as though it spoke English. Not kidding. Was thinking perfect pet if I ever got one. Hard to connect that animal with the one in the video. Kudos I guess to the owner.

As an animal medical professional, I urge the Belgian Malinois Lovers group to keep educating the public about the important needs of this breed. Please do intensive screening of potential owners. The veterinary and shelter/rescue world is anticipating the recent movie to lead to impulsive buying, and later dumping of these special dogs. As you know, they require educated, energetic, disciplined and devoted owners. We don’t want to see dogs like these, with. so much potential, “go bad” because owners aren’t trained before getting a dog, or aren’t prepared to work to make this dog a happy, good canine citizen. We don’t want a crisis of Malinois dumping and, perhaps, euthanasias. Thanks for educating and for protecting this breed. 👍 👏

These are a high energy intense breed. I've spent about $10k in training so far, he's 3.5 years old and made the Tasmanian Devil look like a cream puff when he was a puppy. Smart, loyal but they need a job. I belong to a tracking club and it has made a world of difference. These dogs need a lot of attention, exercise and constant training. Lazy people need not apply.

I just took in a 14 month malinois Zyla, that never seen anything else then a small grass field behind her (previous) owner's house.
Never had any contact with anyone else then the (previous) owner.. She is unsocialized and is lunging at everything you can imagine.
When i asked her why she bought this dog in the first place, she told me ''My daughter wanted a dog so i just bought this one for her''.
Oh and her daughter looks like her mother. lets keep it at that.. both oblivious.
Zyla is with me for 6 days now and i see progress! will take alot of work and alot of patience, but i aint giving her up !!
Please RESEARCH this breed before buying!

I Live in Belgium and have an 11 year old malinois. She's still in decent shape for her age.
The first 5 years she basicly lived outside and protected the larger property.
When we moved to another home with a small garden she turned into a cosy familydog.
She's a very stable dog. Isn't fazed quickly, has confidence without being too dominant.
    Amazing dogs when handled right.

I've always loved the Belgian Malinois ever since I first heard of them and always wanted one in my home. They're gorgeous, strong, intelligent dogs that never cease to amaze. But I've long since given up hope of ever having one since I know that, even with my moderately active lifestyle and hiking of mountains, I can never give this breed the full attention and mental stimulation it demands. So I've resigned to watching videos of the dog in action. They're simply Superdogs.

It would be so nice to have something to come home to, but at the same point that would be unfair. I couldn't provide for another life, even if I could, I'd either be at work or asleep. That wouldn't be fair.

    • @cherylmillard2067

Why won't these RUclips advocate for all the Malinois in shelters or rescues?
Four months ago I adopted Maxi, a 14-month-old Belgian Malinois from a local shelter. So far she's incredibly intelligent, loves to work and learn, we work hard but always end exercises on a positive, she also loves to nap with me as I watch a movie or read and loves my other dog. She has some fear aggression but that is slowly passing as she builds trust in me, interacts with people using a strict protocol and learns more exercises that build confidence. She's also shown interest in bite work.
While high prey drive is indicative of the Malinois, there are Malinois that are bite work flunkies and end up in shelters because they're couch potatoes with a low drive, not suited for police work, dog sports or Ring sports.
Everyday pet quality Malinois absolutely do exist, some of these lower drive dogs just want to nap next to you while you read or watch TV.
There are a more medium drive Malinois, these dogs are often better suited to scent work activities or other sports like dock diving, agility etc.
You might still need to keep the dog mentally stimulated and work them with physical exercises it's just that they are not the high drive over the top working line prey drive type that are typical of the breed.
This is why if a person can't handle a Malinois exhibiting a high prey drive then please adopt an adult from a Malinois rescue, they will match the dog's personality to the human and with an adult dog, you will know what your dog's personality will be.

I rescued a puppy in mid July. I dont know exactly what breed(s) he is but now he looks like a Malinois. He is very smart. I feel bad, he was only 8 weeks old when I found him and he has fear aggression. He usually warms up pretty quick but he doesn't warm up to my housekeeper. Every time she is here, he barks at her the whole time. I dont know why and I cant figure out what to do to help him. He has nothing to be afraid of anymore.

I have both a GSD (female) and a Malinois (female) - in a household with four young children. The Mal is still only 4 months old and she blows my mind every single day with respect to how quickly she learns and how athletic she is for her age. My GSD is an amazing animal, but this Mal is next level. Absolutely needs a ton of mental stimulation during the day or you could never physically exhaust them. Super gentle around the kids, and I fear for anyone that tries to f- with my family lol.

@@guicohj correction, she was a ‘Dutch Herder’. They’re almost identical to the mallionois albeit brindle in colour. She was an extremely intense dog. Her mother, a working dog, sniffed out land mines in Afghanistan. She could actually walk backwards on her rear legs, run a figure of eight around goalposts on her own when called to, army crawl, etc. I’ve never met a dog like it. But she was also extremely hyperactive. She would wet herself with excitement if she saw the parked car through the window because she thought it meant ‘walkies’. Amazing dog but not a pet at all, she was very much a hyper-energetic dog that needed constant commands and didn’t care much for lying down. Not a good option as a pet if you like your house, garden, time or energy!

Got a Malinois a few weeks ago - taken out of a unsuitable living situation. He is 18 months old, gorgeous ( a lot of black on him) and 64 pounds of muscle. A super guard dog, and command trained for voice or hand signals. A thief would not make it past the doorway. He has become very loyal in a very short time. My little Jack Russell/Maltese cross (17 pounds) beats him up on a daily basis and my Whippet bosses him around at her will, LOL! There are tons of fields close to the house, so plenty of opportunity for exercise plus a yard for him to run around in.

He passed out straight away. Zita jumped over the huge fence into the neighbors garden and came back with the neighbors who called an ambulance. If Zita wouldn't have reacted straight away, my grandfather wouldn't have survived it. The time he was in the hospital Zita refused to eat and was crying the entire time. We all feared for her life. A doctor gave us permission to bring her to the hospital and she stayed there with my grandfather for a week. Now she follows him everywhere. If he takes a shower of bath, she will wait next to the shower of bath. He can't even use the toilet along 😂She is even worse than my grandmother. If you already ar sitting on your hands : there is no point for them to engage. all of this is trained behaviour. They are incredibly sweet dogs, and automatically super carefull areround small children. Like they feel they're dealing with something precious and sensitive. I had two at different times. Well, they had all the necessary physical and mental qualities. At the same time, very balanced. When such a dog is badly balanced (poor selection of the breeder who only seeks aggressiveness) or badly educated (erroneous method of the educator), it can become dangerous. But if he comes from a serious breeding and is well educated, he is exceptional, magnificent, unique.

I have a bull lurcher and he’s 26inches at the shoulder and the most hard core dog I’ve ever had incredible balance he’s 14 years old now but still looks jacked. He fears nothing it’s his way or the highway even now. Weighs about 60 pounds and his power and determination is faultless. Do you think it would breed well with one of these Belgian mals 🤷‍♂️. I was told when I got my dog he told me the last thing he wanted was the dog to be a household pet it wasn’t breed to be a household pet and he said also that he doesn’t breed quitters. The man was 100% correct apart I made him a household pet when I left 🤣. He’s never turned on anyone but has given them a funny look and a growl if he doesn’t like there body language especially if they raise there voice towards my daughter or if they don’t look right when there walking past the car he goes ballistic and the sound can make your blood curdle. Basically I’d like to put him with another dog before he goes 🤷‍♂️he’s an unbelievable colour also he’s short haired blonde in colour but with strong black stripes running through like a Siberian tiger. It would be a shame not to get a litter from him before he goes although he has had two litters in the past with some very impressive looking pups that varied between English bull mastiff cain corso pit bull hybrid 😄 unbelievable really

As far as I know ... no dog can't beat Malinois athletic performance. Malinois absolutely deserves the gold medal.

My neighbor growing up raised and trained these for law enforcement. They are pretty incredible animals. Right up a tree or over a 6ft fence with one command. Oddly enough his fence was shorter than the training obstacles he had built for them.

I do the same thing with mine! I own an acre of land and sometimes I will bust out the four-wheeler and drive around and let her chase it. I also have a deer lease with miles of field and sometimes I will take her and the four-wheeler out there for a special treat. She is insane; the amount of athletic ability and focus she has never ceases to amaze me.
