I retired in 2021 from the USPS. It is true the carrier cannot leave the mail when the lock is broken. And, mail theft, breaking into boxes, both individual and cluster boxes like the one in this story, as well as armed robberies to get keys for a city's boxes is a problem that only seems to be getting worse. And, occasionally, thieves will tear these units off their pedestal and make off with the whole unit. Not long before I retired, we had over 130 boxes that had been broken onto and awaiting new locks, new doors or, new units. We had two maintenance men who were replacing boxes, along with their regular job. It got bad enough that the postal service was contracting out the installation of new boxes. All that being said, five months is a long time to be without mail service. I would be upset at the situation. That long without responding to the customer is beyond just unacceptable.
Wow, sounds like they need to put boxes back into the apartments themselves if this is the case.
I appreciate your insight! 130 boxes?! That's quite the crime spree. Wild they expected two maintenance men to tackle that AND their regular job. What makes me lose my mind is how fast their recovery was when Fox hit em up.
I like how they keep saying the mail is safe yet whenever I have a debit or credit card sent to me it always magically goes missing and they send a picture of it to informed delivery yet no one in the post office has any clue how it vanishes
The amount of mail pieces that I have not received but was in Informed Delivery email notices is alarming. We either have a serious mail theft issue or the mail delivery people make a lot of mistakes.
Good luck suing the USPS, coming from an ex worker
She will not be suing them. She can say she is, but it's almost impossible against the government. It's a federal thing. We already know how that goes. That would be like suing Social security it will never happen
@@jasontomica8938She can sue the post office. It is not a Federal institution: The workers are Federal employees, but the post office is not Federal. I retired from the postal service as a carrier/clerk.
@@salima9722 She still not gonna get anywhere with the Post Office. We already know the answer to that. It's common sense
I mailed a package to Washington DC from Fremont CA via Priority Mail on January 19th and it still hasn’t been delivered. All I get is a runaround from USPS.
I'll bet she gets her mail now...thank you for helping her. Keep an eye open to make sure she doesn't miss any more mail. Ridiculous
Only the federal government would provide a lock with no key.
The same person that changed out the lock has to get the key to the Berkeley PO to give to the carrier.
Some of these boxes are not maintained or installed by USPS. Many HOA provide these and the key
@@Alastor22197 Nope. Google it.
😂
Good they need to be sued. I had to make a few complaints to them too because i wasn't getting my mail either.
As a retired USPS carrier their is WAY more to most of these "problems" and it's usually lack of communication to the local supervisors. Really get the facts. The service is under pressure and scrutiny but the majority of mail is safe secure and delivered on time. For example: I mailed a priority package on Thurs from Fruitvale and it arrived in Virginia intact on Saturday. No prob. Bad news gets views. Good news never.
Breaking News: Mail got delivered 💌
Bull, I thank my mailman as I'm sure other people do. Still the USPS fault on this one. No excuses. Thank you for all you do though. 😊
Yeah. Mail being delivered on time would make an awesome headline. Here's a funny story: on 2/6, I ordered an item online that shipped from Houston. I live in north FL. Tracking shows it was in Atlanta yesterday afternoon. As of this morning, it's in Philadelphia. Not the first time this exact thing has happened. Just wow
@@sharonevans4258ya okay if you say so 🙄
I had issues with my mail carrier messing up my mail as well as the neighbors. Delivering packages to the wrong address, time and time again. Same person. Complaints directly to the local supervisor. For a while they had someone else handling this route. Not quite a year, but a long span to where we thought they put him on another job at USPS. Recently he's back. So far I'm not aware of any issues, but there seems to be no accountability for government workers. The government has needed a huge overhaul for decades.
No junk mail for 5 months? Sign me up!
She needs to sue Louis DeJoy, not the United States Postal Service. Sure there were problems with the mail in the past, but it got worse under Louis DeJoy; when this man who got the job as postmaster general he set out with one goal in mind and that was to destroy the USPS. He previously owned and probably still does Private sector shipping companies so what makes you think that this man has any good intentions for the Postal service he doesn't and this is the person to sue He's the man with the money if she sees the postal service she's going to hurt the rest of us who need and rely on the postal service. They say always follow the money.
Our USPS handed my husband a stack of mail for me that went back 3 years like it was just normal procedure they had it filed away saved up.
Maybe husband was hiding your mail. Sounds more plausible
So you didn’t nirube you had no mail for 3 years ?
I had a lot of mail missing, as did the other 2500+ neighbors according to official complaints filed in that time period. It's very implausible that my husband asked a postal clerk to hide my mail for 3 years. He brought it out of the post office to me waiting in the car. It's stupid that people try to come up with convoluted situations beyond what actually happened, the post office didn't deliver it and had it stashed somewhere. @ice9kills_slipknot
“We’re the Post Office. We don’t care. We don’t have to”
Every single resident needs to file suit. Get on board
I had similar problem in FL. The post office was bizarre. Finally got resolved
We’re working on it means we’re not going to do anything about it so go away.
Means that they have to rely on another department to get it done.
Janes!!!! 🥰 Your scarf stands out!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Liberal brainrot
1:15 - Only ONE technician! I burst out loud laughing.
Why were you laughing? How many technicians are needed to install how many broken locks? How many broken locks could one technician replace/fix in one day?
this is what those criminals subject normal innocent people to.
I have been a carrier for almost 20 years Them lock boxes are being broken into by thieves. We have had customers ring and nest cameras record people drilling where we put the arrow key to open them boxes or drilling screws into them. All we can do is take pictures or video file a report. Management then reports it to the technician that fixes them boxes. If you have a disability post office will require a letter from your doctor that you are didable so we can bring your mail to your door. You must have a mailbox at your door. Also, never wait for your mail, man to show at your box. You can be waiting forever. Sometimes routes are down and some of us have to case 2 to 4 routes, and some of us have to get it ready for other co-workers and carry some of the mail ourselves. And do our own personal routes. Good luck with your lawsuit.
You mean they can’t afford a lock smith,I would sue them to 5 month with out mail coming .
Our mail only makes it sporadically. USPS stole $800 worth of goods in a package we shipped overseas. Got to NY post office then it 'disappeared'
No, that’s a customs issue not USPS
Tracker said it went to NY Post office and was on a truck. :(
@@F1Fanatic76
@F1Fanatic76 Yes, most likely shipped something they weren't supposed to or left out items on the custom form.
Easier to blame all your woes on USPS
Start getting their mail delivered by tomorrow ? Where’s all the backup mail ?
Sounds like an extreme money heist from USPS or maybe even the USPS employees. These are elderly and disabled people waiting on support funds to get with 5 months though.
That’s crazy.
Sounds like they have been going in and picking it up, but if there is any backup mail then it would also be delivered with the current mail. At least that's how holds are supposed to work.
We had a similar situation here in Oakland, exactly the same until we got new boxes
A Priority Mail Package was mailed to me on January 11, 2024 from North Carolina and as of February 10, 2024 it still hasn't arrived at my home address in NYC. There is NO further tracking info on it since January 16, 2024. I've called and visited my Congressman Jerry Nadler for assistance but his staff isn't in the office on any day. The staff in NYC nor DC certainly don't return calls. Something needs to be done about the USPS. Where are the consumer news reporters to bring light to this matter and help us get our mail???
Good for her !
Cause: *USPS funding has been cut to the bone and more.*
The political war waged against the USPS shows the sorry state of our political environment.
It’s understaffing not funding
USPS is a self funded Gov agency. The Postal Service receives no direct taxpayer funds. It relies on revenues from stamps and other service fees. Postage sales have been declining for many years though.
@@winniethepoohandeeyore2 Exactly. The USPS is required to maintain service to rural areas that cause a loss, but the USPS used to get Congressional funding to make that workable. Not anymore. Now the USPS is operated like a sad dollar store. Post Offices are rundown.
@@DemPilafian Some areas they totally stopped going to all together. Even in some big cities, gee I wonder WHY.. I used to live in a very small mountain town in Colorado called Cripple Creek, back then it was around 1k people, EVERYONE has a P.O. Box, The town I live in now in SW Oklahoma of about 2500 people we all have mail boxes in front of our homes.
Yup and DeJoy is the big reason. He has deliberately tried to destroy the USPS as him & the Republicans focused on boosting the private companies for personal gain at the expense of the USPS. He also started to take apart the sorting machines that cost millions to put them back together again, also sabbatoging mail in voting as he was a big Trump donor and the list goes on...not sure why he is still in there but it appears he has formed an alliance w board members & Biden appointees.
Absolutely too slow if you need reach out to government, they always always say “we are working on it “ 😅😅😅
Once she realizes America is now a third world country things won’t seem so bad 😱
"As soon as possible" means...till we get heat from news reports on TV.
I mailed a package to my daughter a month ago the mail carrier misdelivered it it was a box like the one pictured. She put the key in wrong mailbox so someone else got my package .I called the Temecula USPS Monday as soon as I could talked to supervisor for an hour or more he spoke to the carrier but did not insist she go find the misdelivered mail She could have volunteered to correct her mistake but did not. Then the supervisor tried to put the guilt on my daughter saying she had to come fill out a complaint. If she won’t do that there’s nothing they can do. I sent the package I am complaining you have everything she could tell you.The incompetent carrier would not correct her error and he is not insisting she fix the problem. I had to buy another gift to send this was a promise to my grandson. Also I complained to Amazon , they sent the next one by Amazon Prime they did not use USPS.
How sad and aggravating! I ordered a video game for my son years ago and when I went to ask the mail carrier he said he delivered it. (He has had a terrible habit of delivering packages to the wrong place in our area.) Amazon replaced it for free, but I should have spoken to the local supervisor for that incident. When he kept making mistakes, many of us began contacting the supervisor and making complaints. It was a hassle, but if I don't do my job correctly, I'm responsible for my errors.
Also, I'm really sorry for your family's trouble for your gift. And I'm sorry that driver was a lazy, uncaring worker. She should have had to correct it immediately by her supervisor.
I have not received mail for 3 weeks at a time. Just recently, they stated I signed for a signature package. Which I did not. They have refused to show me the forged signature. Also claimed that they didn't know of the carrier that stated I signed for it.I am also elderly disabled person.
I believe it is all a setup. Being a postal employee I can see the sabotage. More over I want to add, that customers tell lies or anything to get attention. It's like a "spoiled child" who wants what it wants when it wants it.. if not it throws a temper tantrum.
The woman does need to be reassured that there is a mailbox technician that makes the rounds. I have encountered him in Allendale. We have had countless riflings of boxes. Our boxes have been restored. The technician came six months ago. A very fine man Indeed. The feed drawer to the lobby was bent. The carrier frustrated. The mail had to be picked up at the post office at High St.
The technician was here to double check to see if our new boxes were 100% . They are. Ms Haener would love to have KTVU get a boost in ratings, so a follow up to this woman's plight might help.
I havent recieved mail since last September its caused so many issues
a $5 lock you can buy from online, but it took USPS 5 months... totally BS
LMAO that’s not how locks work for USPS. They have to be a certain kind of lock.
Yeah, not how it works.
Anti USPS propaganda comment above lol. That's not how arrow keys work at all
I agree with your meaning. To those responding to you that it isn't how that works, ok, sure. But, how hard is it for them (USPS) to obtain that specific lock? It seems to me that the person in charge or the people who needed to get this handled dropped the ball for MONTHS. So, while it may not be a lock from Amazon, someone or someone's were 💩 terrible at their job. That delay is absolutely unacceptable. All I can say about those people in charge of getting it handled in a timely manner is "THEY ARE MORONS".
The post office lost my mail and tried blaming everyone but themselves. 5 months later, my mail appeared out of thin air but the important documents I needed weren't in there. I called the ampu for several regions trying to track it down for months and supposedly they got an investigator on it but it took 5 months
Why are we still responsible for broken locks in some location? Let the management of the property be responsible for damage at their property not the rate paying public.
How can I join them, i have nothing but issues with our usps here in Mckinney TX. They even threaten us when we reports one of the mail.boxes were broken
This is downright ridiculous. 5 months and no mail. I'm having an issue with mine. I shouldn't have to deliver mail to my neighbors that doesn't belong to me. I know that there's a shortage on staff. However, get it together usps.
Ridiculous, it should be where the post office opens the whole thing from the back and they put the mail in. That's how our community boxes are. That way the post office doesn't need keys for the front.
This isn’t acceptable. If the mailbox isn’t fixed and it’s the USPS responsibility then they need to take the mail directly to the home door and leave it there. It’s required by law.
Leave it where? On the ground or wedged in the door out in the open to be stolen? There is a reason why there are locked mailboxes.
Yesterday, I received a notification my package arrived. I checked my porch NO PACKAGE!
I checked my mailbox NO PACKAGE!
Long story short... the mail carrier had stolen my package.
After driving to the main post office and complaining even after the carrier telling me tgere wasn't a package with my name delivered, all of a sudden the package appeared in my mail box within 20 mins after I had already checked it. Her boss called her telling her to put my package in my box. This happened in Alabama, and I found out the carriers are stealing people's packages.
Everyone has been complaining about packages being stolen. Receiving notifications but no packages delivered
They probably don't have enough people to deliver mail.
Same thing happened to us.
We completed a little research and found the following information.
Article 631.7 of the USPS regulations and rules clearly states that no person can be compelled or forced to change the mode of delivery.
Why didn't the apartment manager just change the whole mail box system to just normal boxes? U don't need a gang box. U can have individual boxes with locks for the tenants. Problem solved next question.
This is ..one of the many reasons why the USPS must go private
Unbelievable 😊
In San Jose we had a Letter Carrier on Limited Duty that couldn't deliver mail because of physical problems going around changing the locks........................then USPS forced those people out. Calling Channel 2 didn't get any work done faster, it just bumped her lock to the top of the list and everyone else was moved down.
I never get mail. My stuff in online. I would just go to the postoffice if i had to, i'm not a broke bum though.
These women are probably some of the ones who voted to decriminalize everything
Same thing in the MISSION DISTRICT
This is happening to us in tx too
This is so common here in oregon....the service can be delayed for months USPS has the right to control all the mailbox and the mail ....if the mailbox needs repairs be know... you gonna miss you mail for months....😢
I just moved out of Berkeley living with good mail service here in India with great affordable pure veg meals and apartment 😮 rent
Poor lady. I'm also elderly and disabled but at least I get my mail. Crime is responsible for so many problems these days, especially in the bay area. As a Berkeley native myself, I don't recognize my home town anymore and it's sad.
I believe her
Good.
How many cats does she own?
it's an ongoing number
You people are disgusting, mocking an elderly woman.
I hope she wins! How awful.
The mail system screwed up my name in the forwarding database so I get nothing 😢
The USPS sucks. They stuff my mailbox with months and months of spam, and on that one day when I get a very important piece of real mail, they leave me a message saying that my mail can't be delivered because my mailbox is jammed full. Real life experience. They should be sued for littering our mailboxes with trash. I wonder how many trees are being cut down to fill our mailboxes with carp we through into the trash right away.
Sooooo neither rain nor sleet…but a broken lock brings delivery to a standstill.
Snow, sleet, dogs, and many other things stop mail. Dont try to quote a saying that has nothing to do with the USPS.
lol. A lot of people think that's the slogan for the post office cause some dude made a statue in DC and put that quote on it.
@@BeukendaalMason Why does a quote that's not specific to USPS matter? It's funny.
@@BeukendaalMason My condolences on your loss of humor!
Per WIKIPEDIA :"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" is a phrase long associated with the American postal worker. Though not an official creed or motto of the United States Postal Service,[1] the Postal Service does acknowledge it as an informal motto[2] along with a slightly revised version of Charles W. Eliot's poem "The Letter".[3]@@Ialreadyhaveaname2

Privatize the parcel service ASAP!
There are private parcel services. UPS and FedEx. They both use USPS to deliver because for too much of the US is too expensive for private companies to provide service.
do you really think someone would buy it? not unless they can charge $2 a letter
