lara sang the song pretty much better then anyone else who tried to sing it, but it still goes to mariah carey cuz she's the only one who can sing her songs. both were incredible though.
Nope - Mariah, all the way. Her phrasing and sense of timing are simply better for this song. Plus, her nodes hadn't hardened at this point, so all those soprano-range belts were a piece of cake for her. Lara is FABULOUS as a singer, and sounds divine. But this is Mariah's song, and thus should it be treated.
I personally think Mariah's version is much better than Lara's. Technically, Mariah could hit every note detaily. Diva is Diva, Lara may had the best cover of this song, but obviously can't beat the original singer.
I love Fara, but she is not comparable to Mariah. This is Mariah's song, and no one can sing this and give it justice like Mariah did. I am glad I watched this video though, I have never seen this performance from Mariah I loved that ending! She sounded amazing.
Writing, producing & making it to Billboard #1 hits are the things Mariah Carey has done perfectly. This comparison is a no-brainer. Singing a song that you wrote is different because you are sharing your personal experience to your audience. Interpreting a song is a talent, too. I'm sure Lara Fabian will be uncomfortable when she's being compared to a legend. Mariah will also be happy because Lara made it differently.
Lara is a standard power soprano and her rendition is excellent, she can unleash some big notes. But Mariah's range is so rare and unique to her. Her acrobatics make the song totally different than what anyone else can execute
Lara did one of the best covers of Vision of Love but not only Mariah wrote this song, she's the only one who knows how to sing her song the Mariah way. 😙😙😙
lara might have the best 'cover' of the song and she obviously emulated some of the runs in the daydream version. but overall, i'll still pick mariah not because she's the one who made it but her voice alone, the tone itself is so pleasant and beautiful that anything she sings will sound beautiful.
lara sounds great, but her phrasing in this was just very weird for this song. The end melisma was perfect though. But Lara's style doesn't add to the melismic nature of VOL. If anything it takes away from it. I just think this song belongs to Mariah because I expect to hear crazy agility and melismas. Which is Mariah's style. Lara has great power and clarity, but her style just doesn't suit the song. But Lara sounds better than half the people who attempt the song
Mariah has a much more beautiful timber (the colour of the voice) than Lara and her range is incredible. Lara has a better technique though and better performing skills. In this song Mariah wins.
Love them both.. But, Mariah still the best. Lara's voice doesn't really fit to sing particular Mariah song. In my opinion, Lara's voice fit better to sing Barbra Streisand song, less complex than Mariah song but give more chance to belt all the way. In the other hand, Mariah Carey song is complex, need more vocal ability and agility to do the vocal run, to switch from low notes to high notes in an instant.
I’m a Mariah fan but obviously it’s not “fair”to compare two singers with a song that has not only being sung by one of them but has been the birth to a legendary career. It’s like comparing “je suis malade” or “je t’aime.! Most of all it’s better not to compare at all, each one has her own legacy, style and music and that goes to all of the artists.🙂
I coulnd't agree more! this song requires a quick and agile voice. Eh, you win some and loose some. a pet peeve of mine also is when a singer like drags out the pharses(getting behind the time). I hate that.
The person meant that this was Lara's best rendition because this was her second attempt that she sang it. Lara's first attempt wasn't as good as this one.
I think if Vision didn"t contained so much melisma or colloratura runs Lara can slay this more. But Visiom of Love is not Vision of Love without melisma. Lara didn't beat Mariah tho but Lara's version is probably the best cover tho.
its so funny the more I read these comments comparing singers all over RUclips, the more I see its the commenters that don't know how to compare singers/technique/style/vocal quality/vocal placement/timbre and especially in different types of songs. Comparing Typical good Stage singers, like Broadway types, sing in a way of projecting their voice differently, than recording artists & ballad singers.where inflection is often more meaningful than simple virtuosity. Lara, to me is a much better...
I somehow like very much Lara's version. She does not imitate Mariah and she sounds great. Her voice is so resonant! And Mariah? What can I say? I like them both. They sing it differently. And I enjoy both of them is a different way.
Of course. Everyone knows that. Lara sings in a way that still preserve her voice while Mariah voice has gone due to too much giving for her fans. What we want more from Mariah? She gave us everything but we still want to suck her up. I feel sorry for Mariah.
How is Laura's voice better it sounds low larynx all the time. Which gets mega old after a while. She didn't even start the song with a solid note. She took all of the soul out of the song. I'm so baffled it's good though but no one can sing it like Mariah can
De'Jhaun Bercy how are you gonna say she has low larynx when she has an open sound with incredible technique even better than Mariah's technique and she's always resonating her notes.
let’s just say Lara fabian is really better singing her own songs and not really anybody’s else’s, and just saying the only song she really did pull off was “I will always love you” By Whitney Houston but other than that she can stick with her own music.
Mariah did sing it better in 1990 when she was 20 years of age. Lara is 47, more than twice Mariah's age. Listen to Mariah sing her trademark whistles now that she's 45-47. SHE CAN'T. She hasn't ever had voice lessons. She had pointers from her mom when she was young but that's pretty much gone to hell nowadays. Lara still sounds like she was trained and she's pushing 50 years of age. Listen to Mariah on her current stuff. She has lost a lot of her voice for one reason or another. Can't say what caused it but have an idea. I loved Mariah when she was younger. She was untouchable, but since she's older now and no formal training, her young voice has all but fizzled out. Lara is still going strong. The sound you call cotton in her throat is from classical training and she has perfect pitch and resonance---something Mariah wasn't trained to do but she sounded great while she was a young age. Now that she's 45-47, she can't play off her training and she unfortunately sounds pretty bad if you have heard her in the last 3-5 years.
@@darylacesantos A low larynx is NOT a bad thing if the tongue is not depressed and has tension. Opera divas ALSO use a low larynx because it is optimal for vocal resonance. Lara has a low larynx, and it allows her to resonate much more than Mariah. Mariah has her own share in low notes and whistles, but for belting Lara is generally more consistent and stable while Mariah is vulnerable to external factors.
Lara and Mariah is two of my fav singers-Divas And both of them sung this song so great, great great and i have no thing to say about them, great and GREAT
Most trained singers are basically taught where their voice has its center,so if your a dramatic, lyrical, mezzo, contralto, spinto, coloratura for instance - most of the time, all of the above can "hit" most of the same notes, but not w/ the same placement, volume, bell tone, length of tone or speed of succession of notes w/o sounding cumbersome, mechanical, thin, excessive in belt or weak & ineffective. So a singer usually trains/develops an area of their best voice,w/ songs relative to their timbre.
Both are excellent. They sing it differently and it is a 'draw" in my opinion. Lara's melismas are a bit more measured, and probably a little less smooth than Mariah's but she compensates by greater power. I think most people who respond, "It's Mariah's song" and "she has more melisma" are just knee-jerking. Most "original" versions ( such as Maria's) get implanted like a chip in fans' memories. As a result they have to be dragged to listen to (or hear) other versions. All covers,, whether good or not, just "sound wrong" to them. Maybe it explains why great singers get so many undeserved dislikes for their cover songs.
Mariah Carey's version of "Vision of Love" sounds MUCH better, of course. But, the first singer shown in the Video didn't sound bad, however. It's just that the song wasn't, necessarily, the best one for her voice, and a different song should have been chosen for her to sing. She has a pretty good voice, though. Thanks, for uploading and posting....It's a really nice Video.
obviously mariah simply because its her song and she knows how to sing it. she sang it with her strengths. However, lara killed this omg i wasnt expecting that.. overall these are 2 of the greatest vocalists of all time. However i do believe mariah is a decent amount better than lara
this song has been referred as magna carta of melisma... n thats what lara really lack on this performance. but it doesnt mean lara didnt slay this song only this song was merely created to fit mariah's voice.
Mariah sings songs that are very different in composition from Celine & Lara -more moody, more about using little nuances of switching mid-chest/mid-volume to head, instead of staying in the chest register constantly by simply increasing volume & control,as she approaches higher notes within her chest register.I wish sometimes she would sing w/ a singular vocal tone throughout a song rising to a full, round bell-tone belt,w/maybe her trademark whistle for effect, but w/o all the fluff in between.
Mariah isn't able to do the whistle register anymore, nor much of her high register as well. Don't know exactly what happened to her but she's lost a considerable amt. of high register BTW, she and Lara Fabian are the same age, Lara being born in January and Mariah in March. They are both 48.
Lara's techniques are crazy, solidly on the world diva -tier. However, for Mariah's songs, her tone is a bit dark and confined whereas Mariah's voice is bright and boundless. Lara's got a stupendous resonance which can drown out possibly any other singer save for a few, but no one does Mariah's song as much justice as herself.
Mariahs high note was a bit sharp but the best part for me was that run at 6:50 - 6:55 ..its very hard sustaining a belt and then topping it with an upward slide scale ..she smiled coz she knew she demolished that ending !!
I think Mariah is a great singer and artist, with his unique style, and over time becomes more impressive to me, lara fabian is also an incredible singer and nothing else
They both are great, like really great and amazing singers, they come really close, BUT in my very personal opinion Mariah's melisma is better and that's why she owns this one, plus the whistle register. But Lara is an amazing vocalist, no hate.
Lara is overall great, but this performance was nooooooooot good. I need stronger diction, cleaner runs, and much stronger delivery. Hers was just, ugh. Mariah takes it easily. Nice video!
Existem excelentes cantoras no mundo, porém o que difere são seu outros talentos...MC canta, produz, compõe seus sucessos. Acredito que isso torna uma artista completa e não quantos idiomas ela fala, afinal não estamos falando do cargo de diplomata. :>
Amore Arusko how? Her low note is very weak and almost no melisma. Mariah has a stage fright that time and she run her note from beginning till the end both of them is equal
...formal stage performer & from singing in her chest voice constantly, obviously well trained,well-maintained & seeming to have a little higher-pitched chest range than Mariah,Whitney & Celine, she sings a fuller very well supported unstrained high chest voice,w/ a piercing but controlled rich bell sound, not a yell or whine. From constant use,in the right songs for her timbre, her mid & upper chest range are very developed, alot like Celine, but rounder.Celine has the same technique basically as Lara
Also, I don't have the strongest musical ear in terms of detecting pitch problems or intonation but it sounded like Lara had some pitch problems. I could be wrong though.
Mariah wins by a million miles. NO ONE can sing this sing the way she does, requires only the kind of melisma she has. Only she can sing the song perfectly. This is one of the best performances of the song, but tokyo dome in my opinion is the best one. Lara is a great vocalist though.
Son las divas con las voces más hermosas que existen Lara Fabian y Marián carey , con respeto a las demás , las divas que más han triunfado y siguen triunfando Iara Fabian , célibe Dion, Marián carey , whetney Houston que no está son las 4 voces del mundo
Mariah hits a little higher notes than Lara but Lara is richer in low notes, more colorful and elegant in her notes, of course, is Mariah's song and she is more comfortable with it. Singing is not only a voice! You must rather sing with your whole body and when it comes to acting, passing through the emotion, and performing, Lara is the queen. So, overall I would call it a tie between them in this one, although as personas so far my personal flavor is with Lara Fabian all the way, and I careless of billboards and whatnot as we all know that there is a lot of marketing apart of raw talent. In the late '90s Sony and Walter (baby love) Afanasieff who already had collaborated with Mariah, Whitney Houston, etc, and had spent billions on them they managed to kick Lara out of the country (US) seeing her as a threat to their investments. On top of all that, she passed through a rough relationship and broke up losing the love of her life as she called famous french singer Patrick Fiori when she returned penniless and heartbroken to her homeland. It took her years to be back to her skin and stand on her feet again. Notable moments to her dark years at that time was Lama's song "Je Suis Malade" from "Lara With Love" concert where she gave everything she had making it a performance masterpiece of all time bringing her audience to tears. And another moving moment was in 2001 with the song "Je t' aime" - Live in Paris - HQ where she lost her strength to sing this particular song due to her emotional involvement and her audience took it over singing to her "On t' aime" (we love you). I also want to see Mariah cover one of Lara's songs like "Adagio" or "Broken Vows", etc. to see how she goes because "Adagio" covered by Floor Jansen was great but not super-duper. Anyways just my thoughts... Cheers
couldn't handle low notes and seemed off pitch on some parts, Really???, men you don't know what you are saying, if you are really a musician how can you say that, Lara sang that song PERFECTLY. Mariah is an incredible singer one of the bests, but Lara's technique can't be compared.
lara sang the song pretty much better then anyone else who tried to sing it, but it still goes to mariah carey cuz she's the only one who can sing her songs. both were incredible though.
I guess Christine Marie also incredible when sang it on her style.

lara's "i had a vision of love" was insane, but this is mariah's song of course she rules her song. Both fantastic vocalists

Mariah Carey ; agilidad increíble y melismas impecables.
Lara Fabian: Resonancia poderosa
If we consider these 2 lives, Lara Fabian is much better in technical term, and it is my point of view even if I love both artists.
Lara is so much better than I thought. To think she's essentially in the same league 0.0
lara sounds like kermit the frog o.o

Lara Fabian. She knows english, italian, french, spanish .... mariah too?
Lara is more complete.

Lara Fabián best diva World
Lara Fabian's Cover of this song was the best.! But Nobody ever Could Touch This Mariah Singing This song. No one!
Lara and Mariah are two different singers. But I suppose Lara is better.
Mariah in every aspect!!!
She's so wonderful!!!
Lara is a Legend. I could only hear her voice heheh
@hello07601 Totally agree the F5 that mariah does in that performance is amazing along with the F#5's!
My problem with Lara's rendition(s) of this song is that it's missing soul. And the runs are not her strong suit.

@DreamloverLambi Yeah, it's G5... And I think she reminded you of Celine because she's French so her accent is like Celine haha :)
@iiAmitx3 Haha what he said :P but there are two F5's in her performance here at 6:28 and 6:46 in case you didnt know XD
Mariah wrote Vision Of Love....
I think Mariah is a great singer and artist, with his unique style, and over time becomes more impressive to me, lara fabian is also an incredible singer and nothing else
Best cover and peeeeeerfect original
Of course Mariah but I love lara's ending so much not gonna lie
I think MC sing better than Lara!^o^
The one and the original, Mariah Carey, she is the queen! =)
They both are great, like really great and amazing singers, they come really close, BUT in my very personal opinion Mariah's melisma is better and that's why she owns this one, plus the whistle register. But Lara is an amazing vocalist, no hate.
Lara has a strong and Clear voice!
3:25 explains the winner itself
Laura went higher than her and that's it. She sounds like something (like cotton) is always stuck in her throat
De'Jhaun Bercy cotton LMFAO 😂😂
De'Jhaun Bercy yeah, she uses her pharynx when hitting vowels while singing, that is actually how healthy resonance sounds like
@Amore Arusko stfu you remind me of Philippines ppls awful and disgusting pls don't act like a brat which know nothing but shit in the head. Bye
Aden Cullen what exactly is your problem lmao.. You're so stupid lol
Hahahaha.... Also at 3:25😂😆
Lara is overall great, but this performance was nooooooooot good. I need stronger diction, cleaner runs, and much stronger delivery. Hers was just, ugh. Mariah takes it easily. Nice video!

Technically, Lara Fabian is better. Besides, her voice is so beautiful.
But I also admit Mariah Carey's uniques: colour of voice and improvisation.
Technically, Mariah's version was better. pitch, low ,middle, and high notes, melisma riff and run, etc
- Mariah Is Technically Better
Amore Arusko how? Her low note is very weak and almost no melisma. Mariah has a stage fright that time and she run her note from beginning till the end both of them is equal
I think lara's voice wasn't that natural and powerful as mariah's. Mariah did it very well cuz could control the melisma.
Mariah's technique way better
mariah has extraordinary voice... controlled, whistle and the best melisma,,, hahaha Lara Fabian,,is too far to be compared,,, sorry,,,
That's right, and Mariah makes and sings the vision of love

Also, I don't have the strongest musical ear in terms of detecting pitch problems or intonation but it sounded like Lara had some pitch problems. I could be wrong though.
mc better :)
+MariahVEVO Carey of course
Of course
mariah carey e Lara Fabian divas espetaculares 😉👏👏👏👏👏👏
No one can beat mariah in singing her songs
Mariah wins by a million miles. NO ONE can sing this sing the way she does, requires only the kind of melisma she has. Only she can sing the song perfectly. This is one of the best performances of the song, but tokyo dome in my opinion is the best one. Lara is a great vocalist though.
Tono de voz: Mariah(hermoso tono de voz, angelical)
Agilidad: Mariah!!!! (Runs, riffs, increibles melismas y transcisiones)
Vibrato: Mariah
Graves(low): Mariah!!
Rango vocal: Mariah!!!
Potencia: Lara
Resonancia: Lara
Potencia lara ???😂
Mariah better than her 10000 times
+Taher MusicXpop agreed.

That's right, and Mariah wrotesong and sings the vision of love
Son las divas con las voces más hermosas que existen Lara Fabian y Marián carey , con respeto a las demás , las divas que más han triunfado y siguen triunfando Iara Fabian , célibe Dion, Marián carey , whetney Houston que no está son las 4 voces del mundo
Mariah Carey ❤❤❤
Cheers

mariah
couldn't handle low notes and seemed off pitch on some parts, Really???, men you don't know what you are saying, if you are really a musician how can you say that, Lara sang that song PERFECTLY. Mariah is an incredible singer one of the bests, but Lara's technique can't be compared.
