Christinas C5's and C#5's werent too bad sounding to me, but mariah demolishes her big time here. All xtinas belts were so squeezed after C#5, where mariah had so much clarity and resonance all the way through.
Surprisingly well-matched, given that this was Christina's rangiest album, and she was also very fresh vocally. But, still, Mariah just annihilates her in every way possible.
I love christina just because she can be technically almost perfect but she simply decides to give it her own style while all the others try to sound perfect and fall soundin unsincere she just impresses everyone with her larger than life vocals. Love Mariah anyways because they're both awesome!

I think that Mariah has lost some range at the upper part of her whistle register. However, that's compensated for the extension of her lower register over the years due to her voice naturally darkening (and great technique down there). Great video btw :)

Gotta say I'm not an expert musician. I think both are great in their own ways. Nonetheless, I must very humbly admit Christina gains more credit here since she did not have the same academic training and background Mariah was lucky to have, she trained her voice on her own being influenced, paradoxically, by three of the greatest female vocalists in the United States (Etta James,Whitney Houston, and Mariah herself) I think it responds to the matter of "screaming" which I see as "powerful".
Christina had a really good voice back then, she needs to get her voice back in shape. her technique is not as clean as it once was & shes not using her resonator's as much as she needs to now a day's. mariah's voice still sounds amazing most off the time presently she just needs to do a light warm up before preforming live to be more consistently with that legendary voice.

This was Mariah approaching her vocal climax of the 90s (I would say '95 and '96 were here greatest years as a singer ever), and Christina, while sounding quite fresh and in good voice, has terrible technique that mars the entire album (and in fact all of her albums). No one could really compete with Mariah in her true prime, or the approach to it except MAYBE Whitney Houston, and that's even pushing it. Christina's prime? Meh...could be done a LOT better.

MARIAH - Christina does have her skill and i do love her C5s here and her Eb6. BUT there isnt really a comparison with Mariah, especially on a Christmas song, where here fluidity and soaring vocals give so much, also her playful melismas that impress and enhance a song ( her 2nd Eb6 for example).
