Brendan Richards not really sure what you are implying. Jerry Lewis was one of the biggest stars in the world and top box office into the 60’s. if you look at the earlier ‘what’s my line’ episodes with him, all the panelists remark on his noisy welcomes by the crowd.

Arlene and Larry. The WML shape of things to come in 1972. He plays very well, but either he didn't flip G-T's switches or G-T did not turn him on, for he appears on once in a while on WML 1966. Joe Postove I thought his voice was a give-away with that first answer, but apparently not, since the panel truly thought he was Milton Berle! His other answers disguised his voice better, and his obvious angst over his TV career understandably put the panel in mind of "Uncle Miltie."

His last appearances are rather sad

On 1/13/57, the panel was not blindfolded for the appearance of All-Star and future Baseball Hall of Fame member, Robin Roberts, a pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies. Bennett immediately knew who he was, but he wasn't on the show as a baseball player. Instead the line they had to guess was based on his association with the shrimp business.
Arlene and Larry. The WML shape of things to come in 1972. He plays very well, but either he didn't flip G-T's switches or G-T did not turn him on, for he appears on once in a while on WML 1966.
Suzy. Wow all over. I like Phyllis Newman, but if I had been G-T I would have offered Suzy the 3rd chair permanently.
soulierinvestments I notice Larry's entrance had that rather distinct foot shuffle, as would be the case during his run as syndicated "WML?" host.
Oh lord no. Suzy was more wooden than my last house.

Real talent. Not like today....
Very bizarre here the panel faking not knowing the professional comedian Steeve Allan
Funny to think Jerry had to book his own son with his wife. 🧐
Great to humanity, bad to his sons!
Why do we have to die?
He was 40 there
Interesting that they didn't have the panel blindfold themselves with Steve Allen.
Michael Mantle
No, I said that because some of them knew Steve personally and I guessed they could have known what he did on the side. So no it wasn't that obvious.
+Purple Capricorn I don't what "Mickey Mantle" said to you, but I can more or less tell from your response here, and from his past comments, that he was being his typically obnoxious self. I banned him from leaving comments on the RUclips channel AGES ago. Just figured I'd let you know that it's beyond a waste a time interacting with this person-- the only one who can see whatever his answer was to you is you!
(Another aggravating situation caused directly by the stupid, stupid, stupid, STUPID integration of RUclips comments with Google+. Channel owners have no control whatsoever over the comments left on Google+, except to prevent them from showing up on RUclips.)
What's My Line?
Thanks for letting me know. He left a smart remark about it was obvious how they weren't trying to guess who Steve was but what was his line. So I won't respond to him if he leaves another comment just to avoid any conflict on here.
Why? It was for his business, and they didn't guess it.
Oh gee...from the very first, I think jerry gives himself away.
Joe Postove
I thought his voice was a give-away with that first answer, but apparently not, since the panel truly thought he was Milton Berle! His other answers disguised his voice better, and his obvious angst over his TV career understandably put the panel in mind of "Uncle Miltie."
Yup. I thought he was dead to rights after the first "uh-uh". In fact, if I had to guess, I think Bennett knew for sure but played along.

😂😂😂😂🤣😂😂😂
Jerry certainly doesn't suffer from too little self-esteem, does he?
...and he had every right to. He was a genius.

Steve Allen was a stitch
Really Steve Allen
Mrs Brooks doesnt look old enough to be a MRS.
Mid 20's plenty old enough
Suzy Knickerbocker made Arlene look rather homely
Jesus Christ, that thumbnail photo of JERRY LEWIS looks really really evil! Jerry was not a happy man even though he was supposed to be a comedian. He even stiffed his own son in his will.
It's so odd to see a very famous mystery guest smoking while on the show.
Downright rare by that time. Oscar Levant smoked in 1965 and talk about substance issues there. Digby Wolfe and Jerry in 1966. Jerry was one of the main definitions of compulsive personality in 1966.
soulierinvestments I can remember Jerry smoking on tv into the 60's, I think. One of the last inveterate smoldering talents. Johnny Carson also smoked on the Tonight Show...almost to the end in 1992, I think. Willing to be corrected here.
Carson smouldered a lot on TV and for decades, too.
+Joe Postove Johnny Carson stopped smoking in front of the camera" in 1985 but continued smoking on the set during breaks. I remember a couple of times they cut back to him too soon and he was putting an ashtray under the desk.
soulierinvestments The worst of the smokers was Garry Moore. He was rarely without a cigarette in hand and mouth on IGAS. I don't know how much smoking he did on his 1958-64 nighttime variety show. I think he used his hands on that show. He retired from regular tv in 1977 (and he was the highest paid star in television in the early sixties...but after his break from 1964-66 and his failed comeback show in the fall of '66 (13 weeks), he was reduced to appearing on and hosting game shows, most notably TTTT) and died at the age of 78 in 1993 of the effects of throat cancer and emphysema. His last appearances are rather sad
9:01 Steve gave incorrect answer a motorcycle uses an engine not a motor though i'm guessing it didnt mislead the panel
Steve didn't sell enginecycles; he sold motorcycles. Steve's dealership was in California. Cars and motorcycles in California are registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles, not the Department of Engine Vehicles. "Motor" is a broad term that includes both internal combustion engines and electric motors. Check any dictionary.
An engine is a form of motor.
Motors are electrical as opposed to internal combustion engines.
