everyone talks about how in the Victorian era wearing bright/obvious makeup was associated w/actresses or prostitutes, but I would love to see what they wore and what was their look. I think that would be a great and unique video.
I’m trying to think of a video that I might have seen . A lot of actresses did wear a lot of obnoxious and quite obvious makeup in that time . Loespie did a Beauty Beacon of Mata Hari , she may have worn a lot of makeup.
Women have been allowed in plays since the end of the Shakespearian era (mid/end English Renaissance) Acting was not a proper profession for a "lady" because they were usually considered harlots, but women were in plays during the Victorian era.
I like your video! It´s so interesting the way women used to make up in the different times of history. this one is natural beauty in the Victorian era, I like it!
I'm so happy that you're going to continue to make these videos. I look forward to all your videos but these are so captivating. :) You're hair was very pretty in this video as well.
I have really enjoyed this series. Although the 20th century has been done, I do feel you would bring a unique perspective to it. I love how you've been teaching us how women used to achieve their looks without the convenience of modern products. Like the thing about the burnt cork. I think you are an excellent teacher :-)
please please please do 1920s makeup. you're honestly the best and so informative, and 1920s make up is so distinct, but not as popular or ubiquitous (on youtube at least) as other 20th century periods like 1960s etc. i'd love to see you do the 1920s pickford/bow esque, silent movies make up. please!!!
Thanks so much for this series. It has been fascinating...........and inspiring!! By the way, you said you spoke Czech in one of your previous videos. How did you learn Czech...are your parents Czech?? My BF is Czech :) It is a difficult language, I find!
Just discovered your videos and I love them! History and make-up tutorials in one video! Can't get better than that. =] Thank you. Oh, by the way your also very beautiful & I love your eyes.
I don't have a specific request because I've seen a lot of people requesting the videos I would like you to make, so this is just a comment to say how much I enjow this videos :D they are so interesting. And I guess I'm just fascinated to travel in time by making old hairstyles and dress weird lol. Thanks for making these
I love this series but I must correct you on time periods. The 19th Century is a broad term used to describe the period 1800-1899. The Victorian era is the time covered by the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901). A lot changed before Victoria took the throne and during her reign! Jane Austen died in 1817, while Charlotte Bronte's book Jane Eyre wasn't published until 1847! Jane Austen's fashions were very different to the Bronte's!
Cool! Thanks for replying! :) Out of curiosity, do you know if the Viking eye makeup similar to say the Egyptian? Just I can imagine that they maybe wore it originally for sun protection or eye health like the Egyptians?
I really enjoyed this series! It was unique and you did a wonderful job! But I have to agree, it was a bit eurocentric, so I love the idea of you continuing with the makeup/hairstyle history from other cultures!!
Actually in the Victorian era, woman weren't allowed to be in plays. Instead a young male would be in the role of a woman, because of their higher pitched voice and more feminine complexion. Maybe their was a point in the Victorian era where woman were allowed in plays (i'm not sure), but i don't think there was
Nice video. But please don´t use victorian and 19th century as synonms, especially if you mention jane austen, because the victorian era was only during queen victorias reign wich only started in 1837, and by that time jane austen was dead for 20 years
I Love Watching Your Videos, I would Love For You To Make A Video On The Elizabethian Era, Well Makeup and I Was Just Wondering, What Blush Are you Wearing? It's so pretty!!:)
Lilly Langtry and Ellen Terry may disagree with your opinion since they were much lauded Victorian-into-Edwardian actresseses. Perhaps a look before that to Nellie Gwynne??
P Auluknow they didn’t do that . Ladies of the night and the theatre might’ve , but not the common day lady . Contouring was a little more popular in the 30’s. That’s when actresses were able to have an “ on set makeup artist “ and it kind of went skyrocketing since .
It's when Queen Victoria was the Queen in the later 1800s (19th century). But for the sake of it, I looked it up for you... "The "Victorian Era" was the period of Queen Victoria's reign from 20 June 1837 until her death, on 22 January 1901."
That’s not entirely true. A lot of Victorian Ladies would powder their faces . The more white it looked the better, almost inconspicuous. I remember watching a documentary on this . I’m sure they had light hues of pink and rose to give the youthful glow to their skin. Now in the Edwardian era , makeup was looking really horrific. Shades of burnt orange, rust and the “ pill box red “ lipstick were quite commonplace and popular.

roxslide I saw one
I’m trying to think of a video that I might have seen . A lot of actresses did wear a lot of obnoxious and quite obvious makeup in that time .
Loespie did a Beauty Beacon of Mata Hari , she may have worn a lot of makeup.
they most likely wore alot of obvious makeup to cover up alot of diseases that were scarred onto their face definitely not pretty
my everyday makeup is victorian lol
me too!! 😂
Would you possibly consider a Ancient Greek makeup history? Your videos are great!!!
You actually look a lot like young queen Victoria in that makeup...
I was really looking forward to you getting to the 20th century, but I'm glad you are continuing with similar content!
Loepsie: Make more videos! I love this series.
I don't want this series to end
Women have been allowed in plays since the end of the Shakespearian era (mid/end English Renaissance) Acting was not a proper profession for a "lady" because they were usually considered harlots, but women were in plays during the Victorian era.

I would love to see a Tudor period inspired look!
that series was brilliant! I really loved it! Did you think about making this for hairstyles? (maybe it's a bit tough to cover..!)
Wonderful video, both informative and engrossing, plus your tutorial is very accurate! :)
You should do a 'Hairstyle History' series :D
you should do 20th century because unlike the other gurus you give an historical background which is half of what makes these videos amazing!

What is the concealer that you are using here?
Hair and Makeup History from around the world!
I don't have a specific request because I've seen a lot of people requesting the videos I would like you to make, so this is just a comment to say how much I enjow this videos :D they are so interesting. I really love these videos :) and I agree that doing the 60s 70s and 80s are too overdone but I would love too see up through the 50s.

As far as I know they did. More for scaring the enemy then seducing though. They would also wrote runes on they face.

Very nice series :)
I really enjoyed this series! It was unique and you did a wonderful job! But I have to agree, it was a bit eurocentric, so I love the idea of you continuing with the makeup/hairstyle history from other cultures!!
This was good! Thanks
you should do a series on makeup and hair from around the world :)
thought the same, Jane Austens era was nothing like the victorian era.
You sure you're not thinking of the Elizabethan era (Shakespeare's time)?
Doing a video about India would be FANTASTIC!
Actually in the Victorian era, woman weren't allowed to be in plays. Instead a young male would be in the role of a woman, because of their higher pitched voice and more feminine complexion. Maybe their was a point in the Victorian era where woman were allowed in plays (i'm not sure), but i don't think there was
lemi juarez you realize that Ellen terry is a Victorian lady and she was stage actress, you clearly haven’t done proper research.
Nice video. But please don´t use victorian and 19th century as synonms, especially if you mention jane austen, because the victorian era was only during queen victorias reign wich only started in 1837, and by that time jane austen was dead for 20 years

The Victorian era ended in 1901
*18th century

It was in 1800
Lady Wolf if you look it up it starts in the 18th
It's when Queen Victoria was the Queen in the later 1800s (19th century). But for the sake of it, I looked it up for you... "The "Victorian Era" was the period of Queen Victoria's reign from 20 June 1837 until her death, on 22 January 1901."
