Windows XP Mode on Windows 7!

- A unique feature to Windows 7 is the ability to use Windows XP Mode through Windows Virtual PC. This allowed end-users to run legacy programs in a Windows XP environment, while also sharing the Windows 7 main disk as well!

Yeah, this was very useful back in the days, helped me a lot on my previous work to run legacy 16-bit apps on modern PC's :)
Yeah but isn’t it the same when u go to the app properties and change the compatibility to windows xp?
@@Musti_64_Official not at all, this option is just barely affecting actual app with some background registry tweaks. _Sometimes_ it can help with standard 32-bit app, but in case of 16-bit app on Win7x64 you have no other option than using some virtualization other or 3rd party emulation tool.

Windows 7-era development had multiple typos, such as: Running on batter power
i wasn't expecting it to be a virtual machine, i thought it would have done something like make the Windows 7 desktop environment look like Windows XP
actually it is, windows xp mode shows applications running in win xp in win7 desktop environment. This is the difference from the normal virtual machine. I don't know exactly how to do this, but that's its main purpose.
@@egee.7261 as far as i know, it doesn't do that, i havent seen any screenshots or video of it doing this even after searching it up. if you have any screenshot of this i will be happy to see
@@egee.7261 Well Unity Mode on VMWare and Seamless Mode on VirtualBox also does the same thing and isnt limited on Windows XP
@@yxles thanks
@@egee.7261 I've figured it out after more digging, any program you install on the virtual Windows XP machine shows up in Windows 7 too as a normal program, which you can then open and it will look exactly like a Windows XP window but completely seamless with Windows 7
nice feature i didnt know this existed
What happens when you hibernate / shutdown the system in XP Mode? Does the virtual machine still idle in the background?
I thought it'd be more like Wine on Linux: you don't have the desktop and such stuff, just some apps don't run directly but via this.
wine has a desktop mode, which you have to enable in winecfg, but I think it’s super basic
@@markusTegelane ok, but in most cases it just opens your app. And that's how I think Windows XP mode should work on Winsows 7.
@@toslaw9615 you can enable seamless mode on virtual pc, which is what xp mode uses
that’s just not right to hear as a Windows XP Mode user
Amazing! Where did you find this software? I didn’t expect this is going to be a virtual machine. I thought it would done something like make Windows 7 look like Windows XP
Good morning, I can't find the executable file for windows xp mode on the network, could you tell me where I can find it?
Am nostalgic for 7 (XP somewhat too) after 11. 11 got me to commit to learn Linux though. A lot of older games still run in 7, if I run into issues later might end up on that again. Gaming on 10 and 11 wasn't a fun experience.
??? Win 10 and 11 are the best for gaming. Everthying else linux does better
@@noisebeats nope, win 10 and 11 are "good" for modern videogames, but if you want to play old games like Tomb Raider 1 for sample, you got to apply patches to the game or simply uninstall windows 10 and replace it with windows 7
not to mention that if you use a wired controller in win 10 there is like 100 ms of input lag, in win 7 that doesn't happen
@@blopatYeah when I try to play GTA San Andreas on Windows 10 the mouse clicks aren’t being recognized in the game so I have to go to task manager and do something (I don’t exactly remember) so I can click with the mouse while the game just works fine on Windows 7.
@@armeniancrusader301 yeah, there is a community patch called Silent's Patch that fixes almost every bug in GTA San Andreas included that bug, also I recommend for GTA San Andreas, the widescreen fix and Framerate Vigilante
You could download all these patches at once with the Essentials pack from Mix Mods
Also another patch that I recommend, is the open limit adjuster, which is not included in the Essentials pack, and also Mix Sets but this one only if you know how to configure it well and it isn't essential at all, it's just like a "plus"
Another mod totally recommended but also totally optional is the Cheat Menu 5.0
If you use it, I really recommend not saving the game after using a cheat with this mod (in fact after using any cheat with or without this mod)
Only recommend Cheat Menu for fun but not for completing the game
i had this back in the day
Kind of a shame that the Seamless Applications Feature of XP Mode was not demonstrated
Great Mode From Windows XP And Windows 7
Where to find setup for windows xp mode ? Is it chargeable ?
How do you even get the windows Xp mode because the site is gone and my hard drive I had died
Now this is something that I remembered!

nice idea, but after all it is just a windows xp virtual machine, it would cool to use windows xp on virtual box or vmware with unity mode, so it actually would be like a windosw 7 & xp hybrid :)
that looks epik already

I wish we had Windows 7 mode in Windows 10
Same
I used it myself and it was helpful
cool what website
Does it work without hardware virtualization

i remember using xp mod like 5-4 years ago
Have you figured out how to get it to install windows updates? Edit: Nevermind WSUS works fine.
Is it something like a virtual machine? (Except there is only Windows XP)?
Yes.
windows 7 was my childhood when i first experienced the internet
how did you do that
i hope its going to be on the host
It's amazing! How did you found that software? It's still available today?
It's a vm. They still work very nicely. I have a mac and I ran windows 7 on a mac. Just look up what a vm is because it's hard to explain and then look up tutorials. It was quite easy. No coding. Just takes a long time to download the iso disk image. Vms are free and good
You can find vms to download online. I used virtualbox but there is also vmware (used in this video) and others
@@AuraTheWolf- vm is a virtual machine, not hard to explain
can it be able to bsod?

It doesn't come in a form of an iso. Also,
good luck trying to find it, because:
1. You need Microsoft virtual PC 2007, which Microsoft doesn't host anymore.
And 2. Microsoft has discontinued support for Windows xp mode when Windows 7 ended support. However, there might be a version of it online.
Fun fact: it can't shut down. Only hibernate
you can shutdown just going into the vm settings

You can't find the software Nobel Tech is demonstrating on the regular internet. Microsoft discontinued Windows XP Mode (VM) several years ago.
But as Nobel Tech hinted below, you can find it on the Internet Archive. That is a little too coy for me. Just tell us up front.
Nobel Tech also should have mentioned that it won't work on every version of Windows 7. You need Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, or Windows 7 Enterprise.
At least that is my understanding after a long investigation. I need this software to run an old Autocad program on a Windows 7 Home Premium machine. I guess it won't work.
If I can't be sure, I won't try it. I am not a computer nerd. There is too much risk that I would foul up a system that is working good. Can I get an upgrade for my Windows 7 version? Maybe that is on the Internet Archive also.
It would be good if someone who knows about these things would tell us what we need to know. Nobel Tech could probably do it.
Make Windows 8 mode on Windows 11 pls
