I used to explore those ruins in the 80s. We knew it was an old army camp. The farmer at Jane field told me.
Janefield Precinct: Side view showing reinforcements. The remains of this site are between Greensborough and Janefield. A RAAF Hygiene Training Camp was located on the Plenty River, just south of the Janefield community. It was in use from 1944 to 1946. The Camp was constructed from salvaged materials. Instruction included building and maintenance of grease traps, latrines, elementary plumbing and carpentry.

+Dave Lee thanks for the info Dave! I was wondering what all the foundations were for!
was only used a few years... but some how its heritage listed..
+Dave Lee there’s an historic mill along plenty river that was one of the first in the area and in Victoria itself! Might be why it’s heritage listed
separate area about 1 km away and min 1800s vs mid 1900s. (also the site is overgrown badly) you should read the heritage act victoria, its the most restrictive over policy i have ever read. anything older then 50 years that has ANY history, listed or not is protected. if you know or not, or its been found or not. 1year jail 60k fine. #hail
Went to that exact place a few months ago and found a massive brown snake
I'd say there would have been quite a few settlements along that corridor, as it wasn't far from Melbourne. Good farming land. 'Plenty' was an apt name for the time.
+The Great Outdoors Vic whole lot of things have been along that section of plenty river!
Yes, I would not be surprised at all!
You mentioned the area is "behind Uni Hill". Would you mind being just a little more specific? After all, there's a LOT of gorge behind that area lol Love the discoveries.
That whole section of the plenty gorge behind uni hill is full of history, not too hard to find things in there! if you follow the walking tracks in the housing estate you will see an old farm fence facing the gorge. walk towards that and you will start to find all these relics
Head to towards the right from CLOVEMONT AVE. There is basically one deep valley between Clovemont and the location. Follow along the top of the river bank after crossing the valley.
There must be bodies buried in the gorge, being so close to Melbourne. Me I prefer Mt Disappointment.
I’m you’re 200 sub
