I absolutely love how they kept the original asthetics intact meaning especially not that bright colors
They also got rid of the overly anime portraits from PSP and used something more in line with the rest of the game's graphics, which is amazing.

This artist is great, I don't think it's Enami Katsumi but it looks really good.

This game holds a lot of good memories...namely involving a friend of mine who died recently. Through him I got to enjoy this game. We'd share laughs, repeat lines for fun ("Ten Seconds.") and I'd continue to learn about things I never did due to lack of understanding.
Now that it's coming back...I'll run through again. For you, buddy. I'll see this game to the end.

This announcement quite literally took my breath away. Easily one of my favorite games of all time and this game was one of the games I played growing up that got me into JRPGs in general.

I still remember the first time I played this game. It was at my buddy's place, he had a modded PS1 with a burnt copy of SO2. I was just blown away by everything about it. Great game all around

It does a lot of interesting things. Its more fantasy than sci fi. The locals think the MC is a hero because they think he has super powers (it's just a laser gun).

The Second Story was my first Star Oceans. Subsequent entries in the franchise just don't hit the same
I've been wanting a Second Evolution port after they did it with First Departure but I would never, in a million years, expect an actual remake with this Octopath Traveler style. I'm literally crying tears of joy watching this.
Frankly it looks way better than octopath traveler.
this is much more than the Octopath Traveller style as only characters are pixelated, the rest is nicely stylized 3D graphics
They DID port it but it was PSP only and locked to JP region...I was wondering for awhile while we got EVERY OTHER GAME but 2nd Story available on current systems - this explains it lol

I have waited so many years to see this remake. I've watched this trailer like two dozen times. The new design is amazing and that Fields of Expel arrangement in the background is SO GOOD! That chorus is rocking it!
Same composer who did the music for the Dark Souls series
Field of Expel was amazing and all but the Stab the Sword of Justice with VIOLINS
This is how they should make Star Ocean games moving forward. Never mind the fully CGI games; make them all HD-2D games like this one.
A 2D demake of Star Ocean 3 could actually be cool.
I've been waiting for this game to release on the Switch in some capacity and am blown away by this reveal! It looks AMAZING! I was originally just hoping for a port of the PSP remake, but they went above and beyond! I played this a ton as a kid and more recently loved the original Star Ocean's remake on Switch and am beyond ready to dive back into this story!
This looks incredible. Like the next evolution of the HD2D. I really hope they will do remakes of Chrono Trigger and FF6 like this. Oh man...
The possibilities are vast with the Square and Enix classic catalogues (y). There is $$$ to be made for sure.

Oh man FF6 with THAT level of quality, i cand even imagine how i would react. I most of the time dont care too much about HD2D. But here i reslly feel like it was done very well, something about it really improved.

@@Caydiemur right ive never played the original, im also not a huge fan of JRPGs except Suikoden II (also coming to switch!) but this one really caught my attention with the gorgeous graphics and unique fight system! Im excited to try this out 🔥
Octopath traveler really did have a huge impact on classic rpg style games that game walked so this could run it looks so damn gorgeous I would love to see chrono trigger in this artstyle
Fully agree. Octopath Traveler's success paved the way for its sequel, Triangle Strategy, Super Mario RPG and a rebirth of 2D3D HD games.
I hope also if GF does Unova remakes, those ones will be made in this artstyle.
I feel bad for anyone wanting it to be a straight up remaster, but this looks incredible. Something old and something new. Like Star Ocean with an Octopath twist!

People in every group were SCARED it would be just the PSP port, they all WANTED this instead.
They made it very clear when the name got leaked
They stayed true to the spritework, and completely overhauled the environments. The environments even look similar to the pre-rendered backgrounds in the original. It looks incredible!
I recently rediscovered my PSP port of this game, but I think I might wait to play this instead.
It's so similar to the original but better that I doubt many people will have complaints. And if they do.. well, that's their issue. Don't sweat it!
We should be happy that it got a release in the west
When the logo and name was leaked, I was 100% sure that, despite the changed name, it would just be the port of Second Evolution R with slightly more remastered graphics, artworks and cutscenes - just like with First Evolution R. Of course I would never say no to a Remake of one of my most favorite Games of all time. But I just didn't see it happening. So...
You made someone really really happy today with this announcement! This will be a Day 1 purchase. Just waiting for the pre-orders of the physical version to pop up in my country. My brother, who also played the heck out of the PS1 Game back then, is also hyped for it! And I love the chosen style. If I want the old one, I can always get my PSP booted up again. Good job on that one SE! See you all in November. ♥
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! I never thought that this would get a remake, thank you!!! Keeping the look of the original sprites but with updated environments is such a great choice. I can't wait to play this.

This was my favorite announcement in the direct. As great as Super Mario RPG is, the art style and music sound so great in this remake. Feels like a lot of effort went into it. Love it!

Maaaaaaan what a time to be alive!!! I grew up playing this game on PS1 many times over, and now seeing it being remade into this awesome new spectacle is like a freakin’ dream that I haven’t even conceived! Just look at how much of an overhaul they did to the game while staying true to the original + adding new artwork + new features / mechanics!!!!!

I was screaming so hard that my throat was hurt. But I am happy it came out!!! Having grown up with the original and playing the PSP version multiple times; I am so ready for the new adventure. Hope Welch is still recruitable.
She likely is Square Enix made ANOTHER RUclips video where the PA from 2nd Evolution of Welch falling out of the sky in the town where that Armory contest in game was shown on a CURRENT video of this remake so she has to be playable though in Second Evolution she kind of sucked.

This was by far my favorite announcement at todays Direct. I played First Departure R and was hooked. I CAN ACCURATELY EXPLAIN HOW EXCITED I AM FOR THIS GAME.

Star Ocean 2 is probably one of my favourites rpgs of all time. I cannot explain how happy this makes me, it has been more than 20 years that i've played it for the first time.

How good it is to have managed to survive to see this 25 years later!!! This game saved me at a very bad time in my life, and seeing it so evolved with new systems almost made me cry! Unfortunately I don't have an N Switch, but I'm going to "play" it on RUclips! LOL

The craziest thing I noticed was that you can select the style of BGM and Voices, which means hopefully we could even put the music back to original along with original english voices or jp voices!!!!!
New music (thank you Sakuraba and band!), new portraits with animated dialogue, new environments, new voices, this is leagues above First Departure R! Also, this is the favorite game for a lot of Star Ocean fans! This exceeded my expectations after last week's leak.
This is looking lit! I think I recognize the voices from the PSP but I liked those. They were smart in reusing the old sprites, all the same. Nostalgia meets something new.

This was one of the best rpgs during the ps1 era! This game is totally awesome! Graphics has been revamped too.
Dude, it's flat out the best RPG I've ever played. If it's your first time, please google how to unlock the Cave of Trials. It's one missable cutscene early in the game, but if you get it, you basically double the amount of content in the game. It's insane they hid it but whatever.

I know this wasn't the most popular RPG on PS1 (at least here in America,) but the people who have played it really love it. It's cool to see them bringing back a lot of these old school classic games and revamping them for new audiences.
It looks like they did they impossible. Did they make magic actually viable in this game, at least as support?

When Celine used Eruption, the combat didn't pause- that is a huge improvement if spells no longer stop combat
@@tuba7861 You’re right, I didn’t notice that until you pointed it out! Interesting, they seem to have toned down spell animations significantly so as to not stop the flow of battle like in the original game, but personally, I prefer the original explosive spell animations even if it paused combat...yes, even after the umpteenth time in a row of Celine casting Eruption, or even more catastrophic-Explosion, whereas the entire battlefield would start warping due to the intensity of the spell.
In any case, I don’t think the quirky yet fun spell combination mechanic has carried over from the original either. I’d be hella surprised if it did though!
@TripMX the game runs at 30fps on Switch, if the magick effects were like the original, it would tank the frame rate in combat and since this isn't turn based, frame rate needs to be a priority

Hyped! My first Star Ocean was 3, but some things talked about in that game made more sense after playing 2. I loved both.
Seeing my favorite game of all time coming back and finding out it looks like THIS made me literally tear up. Game looks unbelievable.

It looks amazing! God... Noel and Chisato are on the same team... does this mean that we can finally have all the heroes on the party at once? And it is clear that the balance has changed, mages will no longer be useless in the second half of the game.

IIRC, Noel and Chisato aren't mutually exclusive, you just need an open party slot by the time you recruit her. Still though, a reason to not run three melee and Rena is great, will actually get to use Leon and Celine more.
@@asballaaspossible7326 Yep! Hopefully Noel also got some love- I remember most of his weapons having poor magic power, had to wait to get him to get the million rod or whatever it was called for his spells to do damage.

Brace yourself for the BEST Star Ocean entry ever! Honestly 2nd story is my most favorite SO with 3 til the end of time coming in close second.
Missed out on the originals, have not played the first remaster yet. But this looks incredible especially those character portraits. Always heard the second seems to be considered the best by fans so will def have to pick this up and finally play a game in the series. Loving these old game remakes/remasters.

I just can’t believe we’re only 3 months away and we still don’t have anything other than the original launch trailer. I need to know graphics/framerate/load times differences between ps5 and switch so I know which version to preorder since stores likely won’t get any copies of this unless you reserve it.
Square Enix - make sure you readd the crafting animations! Seeing new items go by when trying out new recipes is what makes it fun and strategic.
