I am 76 years old and a Carpenters fan from the day they released their first single. I close my eyes whilst listening to you and I hear Karen's voice, especially those low notes. Never thought that anyone could ever emulate her voice, but you're it! Love it! ♥♥
You were a young man in 1970. When you’re in your 20’s we tend to listen very closely to every word and note. To sum it up, you definitely would know. I was 8 in 1970 . My favorite singers were; Elvis, the Carpenters, Jim Croce back then. By the way, I hear Karen throughout every song Tori sings.
I was only 6 in 1970. Fortunately, The Carpenters remained popular throughout the 70s so their music was ever present on the radio. As a young, budding pianist having begun lessons at age 5, my teacher was very much a fan of theirs and urged me to buy the sheet music to Top of the world, Close to you, and We've only just begun which I learned to play right away.
I'm a 58 yr old man sitting here with tears rolling down both cheeks as I lose myself in the beauty of your voice and how perfectly you replicate one of the best female singers ever to grace this planet. That's no easy task! You do it so elegantly right down to the subtle growls at the beginning of certain words and moving through the registers flawlessly, just like Karen did. God bless you Tori. When you are selling out venues around the world, I'll be front row, center when the tour comes to Phoenix. Many people have tried to cover Karen's voice but none have done it this well. Your future is bright young lady!
I'm also 59. I own the Horizon album, bought it in the Naval Station Exchange at Guam in 1975. Other than their greatest hits albums, I find Horizon to be their best album.
It's not that she replicates the sound but, without sounding trite, the magic and warmth that made KC so amazing. I've heard my share of Capenters impressions, and this is way beyond some basic sound alike.
So tempting to apply the label "a new Karen" but that would be doing this authentic talent a disservice. Tori, you're a very gifted artist in your own right. Wishing you a wonderful, fulfilling and satisfying career.
Awesome, Tori! Please, continue to keep the songs of the Carpenters alive. This is a song that I had always wished Karen Carpenter had sung. Now, we know how it would have sounded. Amazing work. All the best. Cheers.
Thank you Tori, I really love what you're doing here. Truely one of the most amazing voices in recorded history. No one will ever be able replace Karen Carpenter; but you are definitely honoring her, and are very talented in your own right. I would love to be able to hear some of your own music done your own way. You have the voice.
Your day is coming. There is no way the world can overlook your talent. The control you exhibit across your range is magnificent. I hope you become known as the great singer you are and shed the "just like Karen Carpenter" fascination so someday, you sing in arenas, on television, and the great venues across our planet. Beautiful, simply beautiful...
I don't know what better way to say it. I feel like a broken record when I keep saying your voice is angelic. We all need to share Tori's RUclips videos and help her gain more attention. She has the most beautiful voice in today's world of music. Hands down.
Tried to listen to the Dusty Springfield version and just couldn't make it more than a minute. This is how this song was supposed to be sung. Your voice is amazing...
Can I say, it was difficult to hold my iPhone steady. The goosebumps/chills started when I read the program at the church. I knew what was about to happen the majority of the audience didn’t. When Tori started, not shaking was really an effort in concentration.
I’m not crying. You’re crying! My mum took me to see The Carpenters in 1972 when they toured Sydney Australia. I was 6 yo. We were second row centre. I remember it like it was yesterday. I thought I was watching and hearing an angel. Haven’t felt that again until now.
Thank you! I’ll never forget the day the music died for me - with Karen’s passing. Even though I was a huge fan of ONJ, Karen had the voice of an angel. My dear, you have brought the music back to this old man. What a beautiful voice you have! 😢
yes, america was richer when the CARPENTERS made their great music. NOW tori has brought the magic back with her heavenly warm lovely carpenter-est delivery. Tori came out of nowhere
There is a quality Tori’s voice has…a purity, a sincerity, an “I’ve lived these lyrics” quality that is so reminiscent of Karen Carpenter. But I will say that she has her own voice, and it will take her far. I hope she can work with Richard Carpenter or someone similar who won’t try to change her style. She will be a success just as she is!
I thought I had died and was in Karen Carpenters Heaven. What a beautiful voice. Karen has come back to life with your angelic tones. You've got me in tears of joy.
I don't have words to explain it. We are so blessed to have you. I'm 64 years old. You are "yesterday day once more". I was with my friend Julie Kiernan yesterday from your church in Minnesota. She knows your sister and is looking forward to working with you.
I think I know what you are feeling! I’m 65 and feeling like a grandfather! But this resurrecting of Karen through the vocal talent of Tori is inspiring! For just a moment I feel 25! lol!
What a thrill to see Tori singing at the 55th on April 12! Naturally, I would want to see, as her many fans, the pics from the day! So what does she do? She puts together pics with her own homemade studio version of that inspiring song! The comments I have read are overwhelming! Most of the listeners are in tears about how beautiful the sounds which spring from inside her! Have a wonderful summer, everyone!
Please do not shy away from live performances as the ones you did around the Carpenter's Anniversary, you carried yourself very well. Also looking forward to hearing more from you like upcoming Bacharach Tribute
Tori - you have brought back something both precious and timeless in your talent to all of us. This is sheer magic. Thank you for redefining the music industry in such a memorable way. You got me to listen again. I thank you for that. ❤
@nospin1394 - she never did get to record it. Have to think Karen likely would have, pretty song, just listened to it 10x while reading comments. Seems fitting to me that Tori sang it in tribute. Beautiful...Tori, Drew and all! :)
Beautiful - this stands out, as it a lesser known piece and the listener is not tempted to compare your voice to Karen's. The clarity in your voice and pitch accuracy is very impressive.
Precious. Brilliant. Skillful. Warm. Sentimental and lovely. New and special. Reminiscent and emotional. Style and class. What a gift to us these performances are.
I’m younger that as lot of carpenters fans. When i hear these songs i am teleported back in time to my grandparents house. It’s Saturday morning and I’m under their big table in the living room playing legos and listening to these tunes that my grandfather loved so so much.
My goodness. I'm sure Karen Carpenter would have recorded this if she had been alive, and I wondered how she would carry it. Dusty Springfield's version is the only one I knew, on Richard Carpenter's 1987 album. Enter Tori. Young lady, I don't mind one bit that you mirror Karen's voice. Your control and easy style are wonderful. Please record more songs never recorded by her. Bobby Vee was never scolded for being a Buddy Holly sound-alike, and the world needs more lovely voices like yours. Thank you!
Are there words? No. There's no words. Like Karen, you have a voice that would even make the angels in heaven drop their harps & fall silent in pure respect & awe. Just beautiful. I've had goosebumps for the last hour of listening. Lol.
Keep those past memories of The Carpenters; reopen again for the younger generation to experience such magic as I did at your age. I’ve been playing music for 55 years and can hear something special from you; your unique you in phrasing and such soulful singing from the heart.
Love those doubled and tripled overdubbed harmonies. Like with the Carpenters, the time spent on overdubbing really makes your songs sparkle and are really appreciated by those with good taste in music.
I recently came across this absolutely beautiful young girl on RUclips, and I cant stop listening to her. She's got one of the most incredibly sweet and pleasing voices I've heard in a very long time and she needs to have her name in lights where it belongs.
So funny because I remember Dusty Springfield singing this after Karen had passed. I always wondered what it would've sounded like had she lived to record this. That was a pretty good shot a what I imagine her rendition would be.
I was thinking the same thing. At first I was confused and thought Tori was covering a Karen Carpenter original. And then I remembered that this was actually sung by Dusty Springfield. I am so glad that Tori recorded this because it gave us a chance to hear how it would have sounded had Karen been its original singer.
A Celestial Voice. When I listen, I heard Karen’s voice just as I remembered it, BUT NOW what I hear Is a women Named Tori who happens to have a voice as beautiful as Karen’s did, I’m hearing Tori. Can’t wait to begin writing an original song for her to sing then you all watch a star is born and they say, hey that’s Tori. Blessings very good technique very well sung Tori. Wish I had seen you a few years back but looks like your surrounded by a couple well rounded musicians and good people that’s very important. Blessings
exactly !! She has that soft voice that brings you in and captivates and it just pops out with sincerity. As far from hip hop & Disney and the fakery. please stay yourself tori
Why no one has snapped you up yet is just mind boggling. Do not let let this voice be wasted on just covers. Your voice does in fact have Karen Carpenters tones which I heard in your 1st live performance. Try reaching out to to her brother Richard ..... you just never know. He may just have some unsung lyrics just waiting for you. Good luck Tori .... magnificent voice ......
Tori, in a few years I really see you will be doing amazing things… greetings from Spain. I hope RC listens to you and produce you… it would be amazing… best of luck from another singer ❤️
In some ways, I think this is the best recording she has made so far, and the most unique. Of course, it reminds us of Karen Carpenter, but tragically because it was never recorded by her, Tori's interpretation cannot be compared to anything, nor does it need to be. It is her own take on what could have been, and because of that, it lives in its own domain. Great job.
Is that your dad @ 1:09, Look at that SMILE. NO dad could be more proud! Who could blame him? I melt every time you you send me back to those days! THANK YOU!
Beautiful recording. Thank you for doing something closer to what Karen would have done recording this had she had the chance than Dusty Springfield did (it was beautiful too). You have a beautiful voice. Although being a self-trained Karen ear (54 years) there will never be another such voice, I love what you do and please keep recording. You should be a BIG star with the quality of your voice. I wish Richard would work with you. Thanks soooo much!!!!!!!!
OMG Tori, this is so beautiful. You’ve done full justice to this beautiful song. Seeing you live was priceless, this combination of that event with a perfect recording is even more priceless! If there can be such a thing. WOW ❤ Joe
I was lucky to have gone to see Karen when I was a teenager, she always made me feel so good. You have captured my heart. I would love to see you in concert too. Though you will never be Karen you have a beautiful voice. Thanks for sharing it.
Discovered this young lady on RUclips a couple months ago. OMG..... Tori you are a reincarnation of Karen. You have such a beautiful voice. When I was growing up as a child in the 70's, my mother was a big fan of the Carpenters. Thanks for taking me back to those times. 😢😂
This was written by Richard Carpenter for Karen. She passed before she could record it. Richard put it on his album "Time" with Dusty Springfield doing to vocals. I have wondered what it would have sounded like as a Carpenters song with Karen on vocals. Thanks to you I now know.
I am not a religious person, but this young lady is an angel, I sing and play multiple instruments and my brother is in music as a player and producer, this is not' normal', like, who is this? The subtle tones and inflections are just not what an average human can do
Thanks Tori Holub for covering the music of Karen Carpenter. Another singer I have been following for almost 4 years is LUCY THOMAS. Have a listen to her covers.. She has already 5 albums & she is only 20 years old. She is a true angel just like you Tori. May Jehovah bless you.
She does some pretty amazing stuff all on her own as well, not just covers. This young lady is going places! That being said, I'm pretty sure that she and Richard Carpenter are in contact, and by default, probably Herb Alpert and Paul Williams as well. It would be great if these legends all got together with Tori and write/produce, and mentor, her as she forges her own future in the music industry.
hi Tori for someone of such tender age to move so many you must have been magnificent in ur prior life. im glad u came back in my lifetime and hope ur blessed with songwriters worthy of you. Best, keep up the good work.
For my dear wife Carol on approaching our 44th wedding anniversary. I first saw her in class giving a report. Struck by lightning as I caught her eye, I turned to my friend Neil saying I am going to marry that girl. He told me I was nuts. Yet here we are together 47 years after that fateful day. There are no mistakes in music as good as this and either in life itself or love.
@wongwalter But not Richard Carpenter who manipulated his sister and is responsible for what happened to her. I think females should stay away from Richard(that snake and two faced liar) especially Tori Holub or they could end up like Karen. From what I read, he only acknowledged Tori and she left it at that good for her. Maybe she knows the truth about what really happened to Karen and about what a lying manipulative snake Richard her brother is.
Immediately subscribed the first time I heard your voice. Been spreading your story and sharing your songs. Grew up in the 60s and 70s, so all you do is my kind music..... Looking forward to watching your career take off!!
So refreshing to hear. What a class act. One of the most beautiful voices on the planet in current time. More power to you Miss Tori. "Keep on singing" [as Helen Reddy would say]. 👏
I am really overwhelmed by your voice which is so close to the inimitable Karen 's voice... But you're the only one ...I can tell... YOU almost did it wonderfully 👏🎧💖🎤 YOU surely have a Beautiful own voice 💝🙏🌹👏
Your voice is so refreshing. Such a soft and innocence about it. Keep it up.
I am 76 years old and a Carpenters fan from the day they released their first single. I close my eyes whilst listening to you and I hear Karen's voice, especially those low notes. Never thought that anyone could ever emulate her voice, but you're it! Love it! ♥♥
I grew up listening to the carpenters. Never thought I’d hear Karen’s voice again and here she is close your eyes her voice is just so beautiful
I'm 71 and used to say the same thing...but here we are listening to Tori recreating the awesome voice of Karen...
Tori's beautiful spirit soul and voice. Thank you for sharing your joy.

God Bless you Tori. God Bless you Tori. God Bless you Tori. God Bless you Tori. God Bless you Tori.
Tori, that was beautiful. You are a class act.
Tori has one of the most beautiful voices I have heard.
The first song I remember hearing as a toddler, other than my Mother's lullaby to me, was a Carpenters song. Thank you so much Tori!

It was on Richard's first solo album titled "Time" Dusty Springfield sang the vocals for this song.
Such pure soft clarity, one in a billion. Follow your dream young lady, the world be better for it. Best wishes from the UK.
Beautiful - this stands out, as it a lesser known piece and the listener is not tempted to compare your voice to Karen's. The clarity in your voice and pitch accuracy is very impressive.

Shes just liquid gold ✨️
I’m shaking and tears are steaming down my cheeks as I listen to this. So beautiful
Awesome :) Totally awesome!!!!! Keep singing!!!
❤. Just recently found you…. You made me smile today! Thanks…. I needed it.
Thank you, Tori, for allowing us to enjoy your talents. And it’s so refreshing to have a wholesome person to appreciate. We’ve got enough Cardi Bs.
Love those doubled and tripled overdubbed harmonies. Like with the Carpenters, the time spent on overdubbing really makes your songs sparkle and are really appreciated by those with good taste in music.
that should be stressed. She has been working hard and mastered the basics of stacking vocal tracks. She truly is a rare talent.
I just think you are fabulous...yes you are❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🥰🥰🥰🤗🤗💥
Absolutely beautiful. Seems a shame to be so often compared to Karen because the voice I'm hearing now is YOU!
I recently came across this absolutely beautiful young girl on RUclips, and I cant stop listening to her. She's got one of the most incredibly sweet and pleasing voices I've heard in a very long time and she needs to have her name in lights where it belongs.

Oh my God this needs to be released. What an absolutely beautiful song Tori❤
Tori… beautiful. Looking forward to seeing your career blossom.
Great job.
Absolutely outstanding Tori. This song of Richard Carpenter's has been waiting for you to arrive to sing it. Congratulations. Roger
A magic voice ❤
You truly have a gift!, and you are a gift to all of us! Keep on singing!!
Is that your dad @ 1:09, Look at that SMILE. NO dad could be more proud! Who could blame him? I melt every time you you send me back to those days! THANK YOU!

Perfect !!!
Tori has to make an album her voice is wonderful
Magnificent- what a magnificent voice which should be shared more often in my opinion
For my dear wife Carol on approaching our 44th wedding anniversary. I first saw her in class giving a report. i love TORI HOLUB !i like Carpenters...They were part of my growth!...
Absolutely stunning cover. To which is on our playlist and plays out on Thurrock Community business radio.
Immediately subscribed the first time I heard your voice. Been spreading your story and sharing your songs. Grew up in the 60s and 70s, so all you do is my kind music..... Looking forward to watching your career take off!!
Love it my friend, pure magic ❤
So refreshing to hear. What a class act. One of the most beautiful voices on the planet in current time. More power to you Miss Tori. "Keep on singing" [as Helen Reddy would say]. 👏
You know what I think.... ❤
Que hermosa voz que lindo sería que cante alguna canción acompañada en el piano por Richard Carpenters
To state the obvious - What you do is SO important and has a huge impact on the Carpenters fandom. Thank you Tori.
Tori - spectacular!! I"'m a huge Carpenters fan, but you are my new favorite vocalist! Karen would be proud! Amazing! Where's the album??
I am really overwhelmed by your voice which is so close to the inimitable Karen 's voice...
But you're the only one ...I can tell... YOU almost did it wonderfully 👏🎧💖🎤
YOU surely have a Beautiful own voice 💝🙏🌹👏
I cannot say it enough. Thank you for this!!!!
