    hey how is this on the highway at long drives? i have a kei van now thinking of getting a domingo like yours but worries it cant do long hour road trips in the USA

    • @rockeastwood
      @rockeastwood  2 года назад

      I think it does great on long road trips. Well, “long” is relative. For me I often do 4-6 hours. If you don’t mind max speed about 70-75mph it’s smooth sailing. Gas fill up every couple hours. I love driving it! Don’t hesitate. Join the Domingo crew. Good luck!

    • @rockeastwood

      I believe they did make it to the states as the Subaru Sumo or Subaru Libero but you’re probably right about the parts. To be honest I’m a little worried about getting parts, even over here. Hoping for some good luck with this one. Thank you so much. Rockie

      Right on, man. I’ve been in Yokosuka myself for a loooong time. Easy access to get into the Tanzawa Mountains. It’s important to get off the Miura peninsula and explore. Don’t give up the dream! It’s really a lot of fun. Rockie

    Rocky, why did you prefer kei-sized campers over something that's a little larger like one of those 90's Honda Odyssey that has a pop top too?

    • @rockeastwood
      @rockeastwood  Год назад

      I’ve had and drove all sizes of camper vans and camping cars (RV’s) and my favorite was my Hiace Because I didn’t have to pull out a bed or pop a roof. It was always set. But if we’re talking smaller sizes I’d prefer a van as opposed to a odyssey because of the headspace and the ability to stand and change clothes. Before this Domingo I was driving a Honda Accord wagon. Plenty of room to sleep, camp but head room wasn’t good. Of course it’s all subjective. I’m loving my new Nissan Clipper Kei Van. Just personal preference, either way.., hope you enjoy car camping! Good luck.

    • @kampuput619
      @kampuput619 Год назад

      @@rockeastwood Those are some really good points. I just learned that the Domingo came with third row seats which is quite an amazement to me as the usual Kei vans, by rule, tend to come with 4-5 seats usually.
      Do you happen to know any other Kei-sized vans that comes with 7-8 seats?

    • @rockeastwood
      @rockeastwood  Год назад

      @@kampuput619 “officially” the Subaru Domingo isn’t a Kei van. It was a 800 plate in Japan though my new van the Nissan Clipper NV100 seems bigger than the Domingo. Wider for sure but it’s a yellow plate and I get all Kei perks on the highway.
      I don’t know anything quite like the Domingo. It was surely the most unique van I ever owned.

      @@rockeastwoodjust chiming in, do you think it's possible to upfit this into an 8-seater? This could potentially be the perfect van to take my 7 dogs to the park.

    • @rockeastwood
      @rockeastwood  Год назад

      Idk man. It’s really small. I didn’t have seats, I can’t imagine 5 people riding. I would like to see 8 dogs pile out of a Domingo though!

Not a big fan of the sprinter but he’s so cool I continue to watch. I don’t know how the hell he flies that drone so well! Hey Rocky it would be cool to see the engine, I bet people that don’t know the Kei (yellow) plate in Japan would be impressed with what those little engines can do. Not a diesel, but 660 cc and awesome on fuel consumption, you can’t beat it. Especially when gas in Japan is like 5 bucks for a gallon.

    • @rockeastwood
      @rockeastwood  3 года назад +1

      I filled it up yesterday & it was ¥3500. I didn’t even think about showing the engine. That’s a good idea. I’ll do that in the future. Appreciate the advice. Rockie

    • @johnmonk66
      @johnmonk66 Год назад +1

      Domingos dont have 660 cc, they have 1.2 liter engines, that is why they are not K Vanx

    • @rockeastwood
      @rockeastwood  Год назад

      I’m not sure what the standards are in Japan to be concerned about K-Van to be honest. It was not fair this wasn’t to be honest. My replacement, a turbo Kei Van Nissan Clipper is much faster and powerful climbing than the Domingo was. But Domingo was a 800 plate with higher taxes. Idk

    • @johnmonk66
      @johnmonk66 Год назад

      Standards fro K-Cars or vans are very simple/ 1. No more thna 11 feet 4 inches long, 4 feet 9 inches wide, and motor no bigger than 660cc.
      The Domingo is longer only because if its bumpers, but it has the double sized motor so it doesn't get the tax breaks.
      Japan is doing away with the Kei tax breaks slowly over time, which means the newer ones might be more powerful.@@rockeastwood
