  • Hey everyone and welcome to my review of the Hyundai IONIQ 6.
    The Koreans are sure leading the way when it comes to car design and EV capabilities.
    Not too long after the launch of the IONIQ 5 hatch, Hyundai announced the 6.
    An electric saloon which bases its design off the streamliner cars of the 20’s and 30’s. This unique design allows the IONIQ 6 to slip through the air and has the best drag coefficient in class. With ranges of both RWD and AWD having claimed ranges over 300 miles with 350kW charging.
    Under the floor is a 77.4kWh battery which fits with the E-GMP. Same as the IONIQ 5.
    You have 2 trim levels to choose from: Premium and Ultimate.
    With the RWD 6 you have a single motor with 225bhp & 350Nm.
    Range of 338 miles and a 0-62mph of 7.4s
    With the AWD 6 you dual motors with 322bhp and 650Nm
    Range of 322 miles and a 0-62mph of 5.1s
    Various regen modes available to allow I-Pedal driving.

    Hyundai and Kia absolutely killing it in the world of hybrids/EV. the group will be leading the way in design and technology in 10 years. Think it’s the shift from the German cars and ICE.

      15 years ago, German car makers said they have all the blueprints for EVs in their drawers, don't worry.
      When the market got more interested in EVs, they opened these drawers and wondered why their plans are 10 years old...

    A really good video; great level of detail without being too geeky, and gave a really good and full impression of the car. Nice way to end the video too.

    Another superb review, David. Thanks for your advice. I now have one of these on my drive and I love it. As a disabled driver I did wonder if it would fit my needs because it’s a saloon but I find it so much easier to get my wheelchair into that boot than the higher Hatchback of the ionic five. I’ve only had the car a couple of months but I am in love with it already. Thank you so much for recommending it to me.
    The economy so far(mid winter) has been 3.2m/kWh with a high of 4.2 on longer journeys. The voice assistant is pretty helpful. It makes turning those seats and the steering wheel on a breeze. I’d also like to see a shooting break version. With BMW and VW bringing their own versions out it seems like there’s going to be a market for them. Audi will be bringing out the shooting break version of the A6 EV.
    I can honestly say I am looking forward to touring with the car this year. I’ve already seen the incredible speed of charging. On another note, my experience of the dealership has been nothing but superb! Really feel that Other manufacturers could learn a lot from Hyundai.

    I've been driving the i6 Ultimat for some time, and at 6'5", I've had a comfortable seating position and not touching the ceiling. If I do lean forward to adjust, I sometimes brush the ceiling. The sunroof robbing headroom is to blame. In a model w/o the sunroof, it's not an issue at all. I'm also fine in the rear seat as I only rub my head if I lean all the way back to put my head on the headrest.I would like to see ergonomic improvements in the alignment of the steering wheel and the driver's display. Given my size, the wheel comes as far as I would like. It would also be nice to see the steering column become electric so that its position can be saved with the driver profile. I also wish you could get the 18" wheels on the higher trims. I like the design and the improvement in range. Still unsure why Hyundai won't allow you to use the programmable shortcut button on the steering wheel as phone projection shortcut in any of their brand models. It would help the fussy center controls of the EV6 be able to stay on the climate control 90% of the time. YES PLEASE ON A SHOOTING BRAKE VERSION, GLOBALLY :)

      Thank you for your comment Matt. As I am not blessed with your height I will have to take your word for it. The great thing about Hyundai group is they will listen to their customers to make improvements on their cars for the midlife facelift.

    The real wheel drive version has no sun roof, no subwoofer and many other fun amenities that the awd version has. I would not have purchased the car without these add-ons. Some of us like to enjoy the cars we purchase. The 20 inch wheels are great for powering around curves, that's why they have them. Spirited driving demands them. I enjoy every minute l'm in the car. As for the looks, everywhere l go, peoplstop me to admire the car's looks. Enjoyment counts.

      I only have the rear wheel drive but I've driven both...if you drive the car hard you've bought the wrong car...not a driver's car but I'm every other way it's top of the table. My Mrs has an mg4 and it's a better drive

    A smart, svelte car. I doubt it would be useful for the sort of things I use a car for -- as a hard working donkey, but I'll bet it makes a great luxury family car. Great review, as ever.

      @@AutoBears Absolutely, and as your review points out, it's a very elegant car with impressive range, power and refinement. I love the elegant styling, I must say. As you say, a range over 300 miles is truly excellent. Great review, look forward to more!

    Just ordered a RWD ultimate in biophilic blue with the grey interior.
    My first EV andI have range anxiety 3 months before delivery 😂.
    I hear the stereo isnt very good and after i trade my Mazda 6 sport estate in im gonna have to get used to never fitting anything in the boot. No hooks is crazy.

      I got the same color, but as AWD, with 20" rims, so a considerable amount of less range than yours.
      Even with the AWD, even in winter, even with heater put to sauna temperatures, I can assure you, most of that anxiety will go away after a week. Mine went away completely when I drove to a New Years party 300km away, not planned, with only 40% in the car, and no wallbox.
      Easy as: navigate to the destination, follow instructions for leaving Autobahn for charging. Have a 10 minute break to charge, continue, arrive :)

      @ssm445 unfortunately my circumstances ment I had the option of a Ioniq 5 dual motor entry spec or Ioniq 6 RWD Ultimate spec.
      I just wish they'd put it out at about 270 to match the i4 and Model 3.
      It's not slow but it doesn't have the torque and speed of a modern EV.
      A 70% charge here in the UK is £50, more than the cost of petrol for my Mazda. I aim to charge at home and use fast chargers as little as possible.

    • @ssm445
      @ssm445 4 месяца назад +1

      I would have taken the RWD, too. I only had one option, the Ioniq 6 AWD First Edition ("everything except digital rear mirrors").
      While I am charging at home (home power outlet, 2.5kW), and this easily gets me through every day driving, it eases the mind the 6 can charge up that quick.
      DC charging is 43p per kWh, and AC is 25p at home (€0.51/€0.29) in Germany.
      Congrats BTW, you will love the car as soon as you get used to the beeping 😂

    • @cyruslad5462
      @cyruslad5462 4 месяца назад +1

      @ssm445 thanks and wow, I thought the UK was expensive, it's 7p/kwh at home, £5 or 6 will fully charge.
      I'm hoping the Bose helps me put with the bongs, I also hear there a software update for wireless car play and auto.

    • @ssm445
      @ssm445 4 месяца назад

      @@cyruslad5462 as soon as winter is gone, I can charge up with PV, so that's ok 😉
      Regarding the Bose sound system, I was quite disappointed. At least to my ears, using the equalizer to drastically reduce the highs, and add bass to liking (+1 for me) is a must. But even then...
      It's fine with Rock, but I guess it will fail quite miserably with bass heavy electronic music. Tbh, I just enjoy the silence most of the time, or the ability to use a normal conversation volume when with passengers.
      Wireless Android Auto or Apple Car Play will never be a thing in the 5 and 6 because their infotainment system can't do it. It's a hardware thing. I don't mind this at all, because my phone cannot be charged with the wireless charging pad, so I have to plug it in to not drain the phone battery anyway. I am a vivid magnetic USB connection user, so that takes no time. If that doesn't work for you, there are adapters on the market, but it's a shame they used the older infotainment system on a new car.

    Been driving one for a year now and the software is awful… and there is constant alerts and beeps that cannot be silenced and main dealer cannot fix other frequent sensor failures alerts need to wear earplugs particularly on long drives. Interestingly few reviews mention these aspects

    A lot of car reviewers make the same mistake. They often turn into...the camera must be on the presenter as much as possible, rather than the subject matter. I find that very annoying. Also most people cant afford top specs, so why show them? Love the attention to detail in this channels videos though.

      Thanks for your comment. There’s no mistake. You’ve come to the channel to see my sexy beary self present and review the car you’ve clicked on. I’m sure a bear hug from me would help.
      Although this is top spec, it’s not top car as that car comes with dual motors and more performance.
      Thank you for watching.

    Ionic 5 wins hands down in the overall looks dept; the 6’s downfall is its ungainly drooping rear quarters and the godawful rear end that shouts “Buick”
