    Yenno - I watch these dances a lot, and for years. This lady is probably one of the top two princesses I’ve ever seen. Her steps are so graceful - lots of other princesses try to look “fierce” but truly the best princesses make this dance look effortless. Combined with her fan fluidity, and her posture - chin up, chest out and shoulders back, she just absolutely eats up the stage. Amazing work by everyone!

    The best singkil performance I’ve seen so far. And that music makes you want to dance as well.

      Correct! Singkil is a dance of the Maranaws before they were converted to the Islamic Faith.

    as a maranao i say this is a good rendition of our singkil. only the costume of the princess and the umbrella bearer is not maranao.

    How is it a muslim dance are they performing an islamic ritual? It's not a Muslim dance it's a royal dance. Tinkling is not a Christian dance is it!

    • @patrickborro2000
      @patrickborro2000 9 лет назад

      Het ismij Tinikling as a different version since it's about filipino christians but Singkil is of muslim origin via Maranao that tells about the Darangen...both uses the bamboo poles.

    • @AngryKittens
      @AngryKittens 8 лет назад +3

      The Darangen epic is not Muslim. It's a local retelling of the Ramayana. It originated long before Islam arrived to the Philippines, when the Philippines was still under the considerable cultural influence of the Hindu empires of South and Southeast Asia (Borobudur and the dances of Bali are other traces of this influence elsewhere).
      This is why versions of the epic also exist among non-Muslim neighboring Lumad tribes in Mindanao. Both the epic and the dance were performed simply for entertainment. There are NO religious connotations to the epic or the dance, at all.

    • @yamatonadeshiko567
      @yamatonadeshiko567 8 лет назад

      +Rembrandt Van Gogh Darangen is not Islam. It is the Maranao interpretation and version of Ramayana, a Hindu epic. Philippines was once heavily influenced by India and Sri Vijayan empire and was a part of the Majapait empire for a time, way before the Arab missionaries introduced Islam.

    this is a meranao dance or muslim dance of mindanao

    • @Nonie46
      @Nonie46 7 лет назад +2

      Islam or being a Muslim has NOTHING to do with SINGKIL. That dance is the only cultural practice based on an epic celebrating the triumph of love over evil, which was already in place long before the Maranaws were converted into the Islamic faith.

    Servants shouldn't be wearing long veil. But up to their necks.

      Het ismij Oo nga mali, the ladies in waiting or entourage should be wearing shorter veils, different to the princess.

  • @pricofilipinaamerica
    @pricofilipinaamerica 13 лет назад

    @SuperMarcGerard its not a muslim dance its a dance of people of southern filipinos. It has nothing to do with islam, if anything its a dance about the ramayan voyages of lord ram and his wife sita. just a filipino remake.

      You can google Singkil to know the story, and although it has its trace in Hindu, this dance is a depiction of the Darangen epic of Maranao, the inhabitants of Lake Lanao. The princess is Potri Gandingan and the prince is Datu Bantugan.
