Wow! this makes me so alive! Singkil is my favorite folk dance here in the Philippines. The story of this dance is about the lost princess who is in the forest, then , by the power of the diwata (fairy), the diwata shoke the place( earthquake) and bundles of bamboo woods fell down and it lets the princess to hop simultaneously to prevent from hitting the bamboo. And thr prince was looking for her to become his bride. Yeah! Singkil isone of the Most Famous Folk Dance in the Phils.
Origins of Singkil: All south east asian countries and even east asian countries have a lot of Indian influence since 1500-2000 years ago. It is most apparent in Thailand and Indonesia though, since they are extremely proud of their history and culture. As for Philipines, Spanish colonialists were famous for brutal forced conversions and supressing indegenous cultures(more so in Mexico and south america, where all of Mayan books and knowledge was destroyed). Hence, the influences in Philipines decreased. Singkil is the filipino Ramayana, a story of God Ram (who is born as a human) whose wife is kidnapped by a demon king who takes her thousands of kilometres away to his kingdom and he raises an army of apes to defeat the demon king and get his wife back. Singkil initially showed the prince and princess as gods, and other religious things too, however after the region where it is performed became Muslim, they changed the gods to humans so that it doesn't clash with their religion. Extra fact: Thai kings have the title " Rama" because Lord Ram was considered the perfect ruler and perfect man( he was a prince in exile when his wife was kidnapped and later became king when his exile of 14 years was over.)
I am an American one who respects all and appreciates one for his or her culture, I like the Filipino people and their country and their culture. They are happy people, it took me some time to understand this but my wife showed me and taught me their way. I like watcing this video and look at the dancers faces " they are proud" and this is good because they have been under so much different rule in past history, but their pride is not lost. It is only an ignorant mind who forces one to change.
This is a dance for the Princess which shows all coloneal countries that we have a Monarchy preserved in our dances and culture that was dissolved by Spain and the USA.
singkil talaga ang paborito ko! sa lahat ng kultura traditional dance natin, if not one of the best na singkil l ever seen or the best ld seen so far.. l love it!! goosebump is a story teller back to how our ancestor live as true empire of the southern ph. maharlika warriors ... wow talaga mwaahh mabuhay viva las leyte
THE BEST SINGKIL DANCE ONLINE! SO EXPERTLY EXECUTED AND SO DYNAMIC! Mas maganda pa ito kaysa sa ibang mga award-winning entries nating singkil sa abroad na napanood ko online. Only one comment: Plenty of payongs and lavish attire especially the other female dancers. Dapat simple lang sila PARA MANGIBABAW ANG PRINCESS SA LAHAT. Lahat yata sila gustong patalsikin ang prinsesa...
OH MY GOODNESS! This is unequivocally the best interpretation of Singkil I've seen...far better than Bayanihan's. The infusion of refined balletic movements with the rustic movements of traditional Philippine dances elevates the artistry of the overall performance. The various arrangements of the bamboo "maze" are much more complicated and tricky than any of the Singkil versions I have seen. Any miscalculation on the part of the dancers could cause serious injury. KUDOS TO LDT!!!
I'm filipino-american and I am absolutely fascinated by all traditional Filipino folk dances. I know Tinikling, Itik Itik, and Pandanggo sa ilaw. I MUST learn this one.
There should be shows and theaters like that all around the Philippine cities so the tourists would flock to see those. Much better than having all those nightclubs playing old American songs. I am surprised that many Pinoys do not appreciate just how gorgeous their culture is and do not promote it more. Please do! The world will be amazed. As far as blaming the colonizers, right next door to you is Indonesia which was also colonized and then Islamised but they are in touch with their past.
This is still the best version of singkil I have seen so far in RUclips. I keep coming back to this video every few years after seeing that no other group has beaten this one yet. I hope someone comes up with a really good one nowadays to keep this beautiful dance alive!
kudos to the choreographer(s) and dancers! as a folk dancer from long ago, i can truly appreciate this modern version of Singkil and how it incorporates katsu (as opposed to the typical fandancers). to those who have not danced singkil, this dance involves a high level of coordination, style and grace and this choreography showcased that...
I think the beginning dance is a prelude theatrical presentation to what lies next. The Singkil dance begins when the bamboo poles were in place. Superb performance with very graceful dancers.
i really like it!. this was also our piece for the PRISAA-SCUAA-NAHEI/RAHEI.. pero sa kasamaang palad. dinaya kami sa judging,, may blaan dance bah ng t-boli ang costume!.. OVER! ahahahah... i like it, kahit na may kumukontrang people sa revision ng sayaw...
The diversity of the Filipino culture was showcased by this dance. The parasols signified the feudal existence of the ancient Filipinos. The costumes of batik and silk showed our trade and artistry. Great grace and poise even if the footwork was so difficulty.... Amazing!! This can be a great work out.
bagyo yata nung mga panahong yaon kaya maraming payong... lol... but for me this is the best version of singkil, ibang level, more complicated, breathtaking performance... galing ng choreographer, if im not mistaken they even incorporate the Tinikling style, kahit yung ibang version nila ng mga panahon na mainit at marami namang pamaypay ay maganda rin... kudos to LDT...
Its one of the best i have seen so far...their "Kulintang" and the "Bamboo" sync beautifully and the "Abay's" they all dance so well and synced so well... the Datu and the Ba'i also synced very well...so graceful and beautiful...the move was faster and very well synced... i love this one...best among those whom i watched before...
I’m Filipino Canadian that originated from one of the Mindanaoan Islands. My mom’s requirement is to dance this to my wedding lol My fiance is getting nervous since he is not of Filipino descent lol
sinayaw namin to sa BAUAN TECHNICAL HIGSCHOOL noong nag parents day! worth it namn ung mag pasa sa paa .. pati salug sog .. dahil naimpress namn ang mga manunuud :) .. i miss this :)
If you know the story about culture you will like it, If you like History..I love history. I never missed any dancing at school activites...I feel like to stand up and do it.....
I love the over all performance. It was executed with class. Though the modification obviously no longer abided the true essence of what singkil should be.
outstanding artistic version of the choreographer! original and at the same time cultural as well! kudos to you and to all the dancers and the musicians. very classy and entertaining !
Beautiful. I have never seen Singkil performed with graceful ballet moves. I think you've touched upon the very essence of dance in general, and Singkil in particular, as an art form. Thinking outside of the box and exploring, that's what art, whether it's painting, dance, opera, or whatever form, is about. And why not? If you search RUclips for Diana Damrau or Queen of the Night, you'll see how many diferent styles of staging there have been of the Magic Flute. Bravo, Leyte Dance Theater!
i love this group. i've watched their other performances and in each one, the moves are crisp, alive, energetic, sexy and modern yet still faithful to the ancient spirit of the dance. Bravo!
Why can't people just enjoy the performance and who cares what it is or what it is not. It was beautiful performance. Where it's from? What region?-- who cares! It is a Filipino dance, danced by Filipinos. What more do you RUclipsrs want? I don't see any of you guys sharing a better version. So please stop with this crab mentality and just enjoy, if you don't like it don't watch it...simple
I was a cultural/folkdancer (bayanihan trained) and I love it how they interpreted/prformed the Singkil dance, the costume was colorful...keep up the good work.
Bravo, Bravo! Absolutely amazing. The way the dancer didn't look down while manuvering was astounishing. I'm Trini-American and as much I love my Trinidad and Tobago heritage I also love the Filipino culture, the people and the food. Seeing this was good; I wanted to know what was the sticks and the guy with the sword and shield for in one picture from some book, now I know. Again amazing job!!!
Never thought that this dance could be much harder than it already is. The whole set including the costume and props is very good. But the highlights are those criss-crossing bamboo stilts that were perfectly handled in-synch. Yes, by far the most complicated version I've seen. Bravo!
This is the most beautiful version of Singkil that I've seen. Unconventional start because of the touching but nonetheless it was still a very beautiful performance.
in Maranao culture, it is a no-no for a man to touch the woman especially the princess. I am from lanao del Norte. when we joined a competition before called sagayan, we got some points deducted because our choreography involved holding the princess when she was abducted. there should be proper research on culture before we present something like this. it is important. but overall the presentation is very good. just trying to help.
If you like this dance by the Leyte Dance Theatre, you should see their "Lupang Hinirang" number. It's like phippine dancing meets broadway. It's something to be proud of as a filipino.
quite impressive.. so theatrical.. but i guess we need to restore the authenticity of the steps and the dance itself in any performance.. i understand that the modifications you've made is to entertain the audience but we also need to consider that as much as possible we should preserve the genuine culture among the Muslim brothers and sisters and the Filipino culture in general.
@@imeldaagbu1621 I am among the mranaw tribe of mindanao. It is true that most mranaw women's movements are graceful but it does not mean that we are masters of singkil. the datu isn't supposed to touch the princess... they missed that part. but over all, they executed the whole routine very gracefully! amazing
bakit bawal niyang hawakan tanong ko lang?
The princess should be conservative.
women among the Maranao, Muslim in general are precious. they are treated to be with high respect.
Bawal hawakan dahil nasa batas ng Islam na bawal hawakan ng isang lalaki ang isang babae kung hindi niya ito asawa.
alta costura they look like ballet dancers more than cultural, it’s a rendition.
I keep coming back to this because precolonial Filipino culture is just so rich and majestic. ❤
yes i agree with that, the dance change a lot through time, but i'm thankful coz a lot of people appreciate our culture as a bangsamoro.
Wit akung pake kung may mali! Artistically, ang galing galing nila!!! Kaiyak much!

i'm from zambo. norte and i've seen a lot of singkil dance performed in my place but this is awesome
Absolutely Beautiful.... I love Singkil! should be at par with Tinikling as our national dance! So regal and beautiful.

Well, watch the MSU Darangan Cultural Troupe from the birthplace of singkil where they perform the Authentic Singkil ✨
I'm filipino-american and I am absolutely fascinated by all traditional Filipino folk dances. I know Tinikling, Itik Itik, and Pandanggo sa ilaw. I MUST learn this one.
for me this is the best filipino Folk dance, goose bumps will eat you :D
BRAVO!!! This is just beautiful. Filipinos should be performing this all over the world. It's a sight to behold. Such precision and such grace.
It's a Royalty Dance and the footwork much harder than the ordinary Tinikling dance.
This singkil does not claim to be the original version. This is the Hollywood version for entertainment purposes only.
Roland, Salamat sa pag post.
2:04 yung taga bitbit ka lang ng payong sa princesa pero parang ikaw ang star of the night. Love it!!!!!!!!!

Very proud of this dance and Filipino culture. I hope they perform this more around the world.
This is the real Pinoy Rock music, if we'll compare it of todays music genres,
and you guys....ROCK!!!!
this is probably one of the best singkil performances i've seen. (:
Aristocratic, heart pounding, dramatic, awesome to watch.

This makes you proud to be filipino.
Dapat eto yung ginagawang opening act pag maghost tayo mg mga international games. Make it grander, big. Sophisticated ang dance

Only an Expert Filipino Dancer can do the Singkil Dance...Great job Leyte👏👏👏👏
Its one of the best i have seen so far...their "Kulintang" and the "Bamboo" sync beautifully and the "Abay's" they all dance so well and synced so well... the Datu and the Ba'i also synced very well...so graceful and beautiful...the move was faster and very well synced... i love this one...best among those whom i watched before...

i'm binging folk dances and this is by far one of the best yet. it's so exhilarating to watch.
I love the over all performance. It was executed with class. Though the modification obviously no longer abided the true essence of what singkil should be.
Beautiful... Very Familiar with Leyte in the Philippines...
Thanks for Sharing this Cool Video...

outstanding artistic version of the choreographer! original and at the same time cultural as well! kudos to you and to all the dancers and the musicians. very classy and entertaining !
Still the best singkil I’ve ever seen.

The specialty of this dance is watching it from aerial view.
Amazing dance performance!
i totally love this dance, its one of my top3 fave phil. folk dances!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS DANCE AND THIS GROUP! SO EXCELLENT
The female lead is superb-- she's a wonderful ballerina as well as a fantastic folk dancer! Love the whole troupe!
So grandiousa, even the bows and exit were so graceful and class...
The best version of Singkil dance I have seen.
Congratulations po!
amazing gusto ako ako maaaring pumunta na mabilis! ang tanging cool paglalalang maaari ako gawin ay sipin sa loob ng gitna!

It's called Singkil. A Filipino tribal Dance from Maranao. It's a Wedding Dance of a Princess that's why it looks so elegant.
I'm very homesick and I enjoyed this very much.
I love it!!! Just amazing...I'm speechless.
the best I have seen yet! wow its amazing!
the first part is just really annoying.
still love this rendition, the changes keep he story alive
Amazing! One of the best singkil dance I have ever seen.
Leyte Dance made their own version of singkil. It's not a copy cat. All in all, it's pinoy creativity.
This is the most beautiful version of Singkil that I've seen. Unconventional start because of the touching but nonetheless it was still a very beautiful performance.
Best cultural dance ever i've watch.
We're gonna be performing the same dance, but different choreo :) Hope we could do justice to the dance. Proud to be pinoy! :D

Karen Nanni i believe there were rules to follow not just intertaining. choreography are the highest score.😊😊😊
lively, wonderful! great performance. however i still like the usc dance troupe's singkil version, short, fast and elegant.
wow amazing!.......thank for uploading tis video.we really2x like it.............
dear god. my jaw dropped the first time i saw this. that is awesome
na appreciate ko din ito... hehehe
The Singkil is very much difficult , much beautiful , and much grandeur to watch than the Philippines National Dance , the Tinikling
NAPANUOD KO TOH!!!!!!
If you like this dance by the Leyte Dance Theatre, you should see their "Lupang Hinirang" number. It's like phippine dancing meets broadway. It's something to be proud of as a filipino.

Love this new and lastest version. I had singkil as entertainment during my wedding back in '97
Amazing dance! I really enjoyed it regardless of what others are saying! It's entertaining to the core! Awesome!
