There is nothing like Nigel North playing the baroque lute. Exquisite.

Achieving such a clear separation of voices, striking what sounds as their ideal balance at each stage of the piece and painting everything in the best tonal colors the instrument can let off - must be extremely hard to arrive at. Yet, I can hear clearly all of that in this maestral performance.

What he does with the Passacaille is simply amazing. The only other version I had heard was Julian Bream on the guitar, and that too is awesome, but Nigel North is in another galaxy here; his phrasing and intonation are impeccable, and the sheer delight and beauty of the music coming out of his lute leaves me speechless. Bravo. Now off to Amazon...
