Well, I don't know how it works, but rosehip CO2 extract (I use the one by Pai) does wonders to my skin in terms of brightening and evening out the skin tone as well as healing any blemishes or scarring... No other oil actually does it for me, and I've tried a lot of them. All they do is, indeed, moisturize. But rose hip is just a miracle worker . I've always thought it was due to the high content of carotenoids (aka pro-vitamin A) in it... don't know...

I've been using oils for years and love the 'smoothing effect' it has on my skin. The glow is nice too. I still use some cremes...but I do feel the oils absorb into the skin better. I've always heard that Rose Hip oil is nature's retinoid. It's a little disappointing that it doesn't do any anti aging. But my skin does drink it up and seems to love it.

Angie, could you do a video on lipsticks/lip balms? I have some lipsticks I love but they don’t stay on very long. Years ago I used to use stay-on lipsticks but found they dried out my lips. Are there any lipsticks out there that stay on and moisturize the lips? A little plumping would be nice, too.

Nice to see you Angie. I too was offered money from the CaCay oil man but I could not find any research on the oil. They listed a lab in Germany to support their claims that didn't exist. I use Carrot Oil and Rosehip oil and they have changed the texture of my skin, helped with scarring and are powerful anti-oxidants...and they just make me feel healthy. I am hoping more studies can be done in the coming years because my before and after pictures still amaze me. I can't use Retin-a...if I could, I would. But I am happy with my oils. And using facial oils on your skin doesn't make you skin oily...that is not what I have found, and I have normal to oily skin. I thought that was cute about raining on somebody's parade! I appreciate all you do. Have a lovely week..you are looking beautiful! xxoo Sues & The Dez

bev692 I love my oils! I use 3 oils from The Ordinary: Rose Hip Oil (high in Vitamin A) , Sea Buckthorn Oil (high in Vitamin C, Omega 7 and other anti-oxidants) and their B-Oil which is a blend of oils and Algae. I only use my oils at night and I like to alternate nights: one night my B-Oil (3 drops), the next night my Rosehip Oil (3 drops) mixed with 1 drop of Seabuckthorn Oil and so on. I apply my oils after my essence, Hyaluronic acid serum, then either my Estée Lauder Night serum or my Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Capsule, then I add my Oil ~ I consider my oils as another nutrient dense serum step ~ go watch some TV and have my pre-bed snack. lol! Then I top it all off with my bedtime moisturizer to seal the deal and go to bed. 🛏😴 I know, it’s quite the process but my skin loves it! Lol! 😂

    • @FitChickGlows
      @FitChickGlows 5 лет назад

LittlePoet Amen to that! I totally agree!! I will never part with my facial oils! I really believe also that they are truly anti-aging and super nourishing to our skin. I mean it’s the elixir of the plant that it’s derived from so it’s going to be brimming with the elixir of nutrients of that plant. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Especially when you’re just pulling out 1 teensy weensy micro component and saying that that’s all the oil is made up of. We don’t even have a measuring tool for all that’s in those oils, really. We only know in part BUT our skin understands it in it’s WHOLE! Lol! 😉😂

Best video on oils I've ever seen. Every single oil breaks me out even the ones that claim to be high in linoleic acid. I didn't understand why since every video I watched on oils kept hyping their fatty acid contents. Upon further research I learned the fatty acid contents has to be isolated to receive the benefits. I never saw anyone ever explaining this. Moral of story is to do your own research especially with all these misleading marketing claims out there. Great job on deciphering the claims and hype!!!

Wonderful, well researched video. Thank you for a non-sponsored viewpoint. I use seaberry oil as a buffer under my Curology tretinoin. I know it’s not supposed to be how you layer these things, but if I use moisturizer as my buffer my skin barrier takes a beating and my face is all red and peeling in the morning. The oil slows down the penetration of the tretinoin, and I wake up with gorgeous skin. I also have to apply another occlusive on top of the tretinoin (I use a lanolin ointment as my last layer). Burned my face so many times before figuring it out! I managed to literally erase the lines on my neck with that regimen, still can’t believe how effective tretinoin is!

I use separate products to get my vitamins and actives, not oils. But I do use oils to soften skin and other things. I use olive oil to remove makeup instead of an oil based cleanser for a double cleanse. Oils that are heavier like olive and coconut work nicely. My mom always use oils to remove makeup, usually baby oil, but my grandmother used plant oils because that's what she had. Grandma also used crisco for extremely dry skin. And cracking hands, wind burns, etc. And if you have ever made pie crust with crisco and used your hands to do so, you know how soft your hands get. When I use oils as an extra moisturizer, I noticed it does pill up if used last in skin care. So I mix it, just a tiny bit, a few drops with my cream or lotion. I have dry skin with a oilyish t zone. Since using oils in my moisturizer, I have not had any issue with winter dry skin. And did not get the retinoi uglies, my skin didnt dry out and flake. I mix it with cerave. I use grape seed, as it absorbs faster, or rose hip, in skin care. I just like how it feels vs other oils that make me feel more greasy. I also love to add oils in eye cream, body lotions, body creams or butters. They just seem to soften better and for longer. My skin seems to have normalized. I'm no longer dry or oily since adding oils. It just looks odd having what amounts to cooking oils in your bathroom, so I put them in pretty containers. I dont feel like they have anti aging properties other then to help what I already use to add moisture and hold moisture to work better. But as we age, we loose more natural oils, tend to get dryer, which makes wrinkles and crepey skin look worse. If skin is well hydrated, it looksnice, plumber and less wrinkled. And maybe that's how people judge oils as being anti aging. It's like adding glycerin to a cheaper lotion to make it hold more water. It adds a little something. And so my skin that gets painfully dry, that's all I need it to do.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost body gel cream with hyaluronic acid, fragrance-free for sensitive and dry skin. I just found this at Walmart yesterday. It is a 16oz bottle and I think I paid $8.93 for it. Going through hot flashes myself especially at night, it's difficult for me to use any kind of lotion on my body because I sweat more after I put the lotion on. (AKA Aveeno) Truth be told, I do not like that. This lotion is light, it's like water. It absorbs into my skin without leaving that greasy feel. GO NEUTROGENA! 🎉🎉🎉...Angie, I looked for this type of a product because of you and your relationship with Neutrogena. TY. 💝

I love that you do this research! I swear by my Retin-A and have for years, but I have very dry skin and went through dozens of moisturizers that just didn't do enough. A friend suggested rosehip seed oil to use at night, so I tried it. I no longer wake up with a dry, tight face, so for me it is an exceptional moisturizer (smells great too, and I love natural ingredients when they work). What's funny is I'd never even heard the hype that plant oils "contained Retin-A"! I was just on the hunt for a way to keep my face hydrated. So when I saw your video description, I perked up, wondering if it was doing more than I thought. Nope, LOL. But heck, my face is still super-hydrated with it and I use my "real" anti-aging skincare products religiously, so I'm calling it good.

Thank you for doing this video, and for putting the research in there. I love oils for how they make my skin feel, but also know that I reach for them less than I do standard skincare items like serums and moisturizers. The bottom line is that while many oils feel great, the basic thing they do is sit on your skin to lock in the moisture and nutrients from other skincare products. I use them as a last step in my routine. I have many, many many oils:
Sunday Riley has a CEO oil that is good, but again, I use it at the end of my routine and I don't reach for it often.
Nyakio has 3 great oils and the one I love the most is her "green" oil, the Maracuja & Yangu Soothing Oil, and if I put this on when I feel a rosacea flare coming on, it'll soothe my skin and I won't flare.
Acure has a Blue Tansy oil that is fine, but I love the Nyakio more.
Tarte has a Maracuja oil that is fine, but I still love the Nyakio more.
Acure and Drunk Elephant both have Marula oils, but I love Nyakio's Marula & Neroli Brightening Oil more.
If I had one oil that I'd repurchase every single time, it would be the Timeless Squalane oil. You can use it in your bath, and your skin will be so smooth afterwards. You can use it to shave your legs with and it is fantastic. You can use it to seal in your other skincare products, and it is great. You can even use it as a first step in a double cleansing routine and it works really well. Since using Timeless' Squalane, I now look for it in my moisturizers (that is my lazy way of adding it to my routine).
There are benefits to using oils, but like you stated (very well, I might add) the overall benefit is minimal.

I use oils on my skin because they are the only thing that don’t break me out or make me more oily. I combine my own depending on the season and condition of my skin. I turned 60 and noticed a change in my skin's elasticity. Moisturizers are now not enough. I recently started using oils. I smoother my body in coconut oil (cold pressed organic) before I shower, then moisturize after my shower. This seems to be making a difference (and it's inexpensive (Costco).

You are just phenomenal! I so appreciate the tremendous amount of work that you did for this video. I have no problem with people trying to market a product, but I do have a problem with purposely misleading people regarding the efficacy of the product. I can ALWAYS rely on you for the truth and I thank you for that.

I'm so glad you're sharing this type of information to your subscribers! It's so frustrating to hear people parroting information which is simply just not true; it reminds me of the old Pantene commercial ("they tell two friends, who tell another two friends, and so on). I encourage you to take another step and read real peer-reviewed research articles. Results from a petri dish can't be extrapolated to topical application of the same ingredient! Another fallacy which marketers love to use to sell their products. Thanks again!!!

Number one NERD fan here, front and center, on the edge of my seat. Fully absorbed all 5 hours of this segment which is more than the absorption rate of those oils false claims. : ) I had tossed my oil stash when I converted to your anti aging protocol. Following you has taught me to learn more, look beyond the hype, and in so doing have found products that really work. Just opened a fresh bottle of Timeless Coenzyme Q10 and slathered on a lasting moisturizing dose. Thank you for this series of Antiaging, for igniting a passion in chemistry, explaining it so well, and FOR DOING THE MATH (that's me in the back of the math class, under the desk quivering). XO

I enjoyed the adventure into "nerdy land" but my head is spinning,. I'm glad you did a recap at the end, but I got the bottom line of oils are a good moisturizer and that's about it. I purchase Squalene Oil from Good Molecules on Beautylish I think and I use it under my eyes to soak in before I put on makeup. The $6. bottle may last me forever. A little goes a long way and it does moisturize my under eyes throughout the day. I SO appreciate all the research that you do so that your viewers can make informed decisions on skincare that really works. I am 63 and was going to a dermatologist for my Tretoinin (sp?) but they made me come in every year for a $70 charge just to get a refill. I saw your video on Cureology and for the last 6 months have been using it and found it works just as well and is cheaper also. I'm going to give the Paula's Choice product a try - I am gradually switching all my skincare to Paula's Choice. I got away from it trying other things but it never disappoints.

I respect your product choices due to the ingredient based information that you share. This has helped me to make wise choices and have found products that really perform for me, which has saved me lots of money over the years! I am 56 today and feel great, I'm happy to say that my skin looks pretty good thanks to your advice!! I have been watching you since the beginning and have learned so much-Keep doing what you do!

Oh my gosh! You've done so much research for us. Wow. Thank you. I was feeling bad because I quit incorporating any oils into my routine. They never did anything for me that I could tell, so I quit using them. What did I substitute for the oils about a year ago, at your suggestion? Retin A. What did I start using about 3 months ago at your suggestion?? Curology. I love it! I can see a big difference! Again, Thank you!!!!!!

I've watched you for ages now Angie and never commented but I really want to thank you for all the hard work you've done researching these oils. Thank you for debunking these untruthful/skewed marketing claims so we consumers can make an informed choice when buying facial oils, knowing what they are actually good for (keeping moisture in our skin) and what they cannot do (anti-age skin like tretinoin). I really appreciate the hard work you do and the amount of time it must take you x ps you look so young and radiant that you seem to be ageing backwards.

Excellent research! Thank you, Angie! I just ordered the Paula’s Choice Omega + Complex Moisturizer and I can't wait to try it. I use the Aura Cacia Organic Jojoba Oil as my first cleanse and also to remove stubborn eye make-up. I have used it for many years as I found it easy to remove and it didn't migrate into my eyeballs and cause irritation like mineral oil or most eye makeup remover formulas caused for my sensitive eyes.

    Absolutely love this video.
I started Tretinoin 0.025% in January after seeing you highly recommend it. My Mom lives in Spain and sends it me ! and I’m going to start on the 0.05% in a month.
I’m excited to start seeing results -
I use Factor 50 already. Every day. Have done since the age of 30 but I needed more ! I’m experimenting with some of your recommendations- but at the moment my skin just loves calming and nourishing fragrance free cleansers and moisturisers. X thanks for all the advice x

Anne MG I got a couple tubes of Retin-A (or Retirides as it's called there) in Spain a few years ago. It cost about $12 and is over the counter. You can also get it in Mexico if you're going there...

HotandFlashy thank you, I am going to Italy so I hope to find it there. $12...much better than the $75 I’m being quoted in America.

Yes it was just 13 Euros and I was on Retinol 1% for a whole year before moving up to Tretinoin 0.025% and that really acclimated my skin to the product. I’ve not peeled at all and the only tiny irritation I’ve had is a small amount of redness in around my nostrils and itchiness. So I just avoid that area. I use it on my neck and eyelids. I won’t use the 0.05 on my neck and eyelids though ! I’m not going to push it. I’ll keep the 0.025 for those areas. X

Classic Angie! I appreciate that you do the work for me/us!!! I am using Curology...just beginning my second month. I think I am liking it, but just too soon to tell. It feels great. As for oils...I can never get the right mix with my skincare and I get the balls on my skin. This video makes me happy because now I don’t have to feel as though I should be using oils other than an occasional extra moisture boost!

  • @andreaeno4143

Thank you! This is so helpful! Although it may not penetrate deeply, I swear that Cacay oil has tightened the skin under my chin and on my neck. A lot. It may just be a temporary effect that occurs while I am using it, but it is dramatic. I mix just a couple drops with a drop of tamanu oil ( which soothes the surface of the skin) and apply under my chin and neck. Cacay can be very irritating, for some, if too much is applied. I know there’s no research to back it up, but it worked for me.

Epic Angie. Not sure how you managed to explain a black hole of information but you did (thanks Dad? thanks pre-med kid?). Everyone, especially younger ladies just embarking on that “healthy skin through the years” journey should see this one.
Oh and your sunscreen videos. Always the sunscreen videos. I still don’t see “beauty gurus” putting sunscreen on camera ever or even show the bottle. They just say they put on spf before the video. Imagine if they actually put it on and young people all over the world saw it, perceived it as part of the glamour and saved themselves a boat load of trouble later on in life.

I just saw a commercial where a girl is putting on about two drops of sunscreen and talking about how wonderful it is. I thought to myself, if that's all the sunscreen you're putting on, you just as soon skip that step because you're not doing anything to help your skin. Dr.Dray always says that the amount of sunscreen you need to put on is a whole lot more than anyone suspects and I always put on a whole lot more sunscreen that I want to put on!
