You did miss quite a bit of features that I'm aware of:
    - Work plane save placement, will remember workplane until reset.
    - Materials can now be saved to a server/ cloud location
    - Temporary Dimensions for Shared Nested Families
    - Performance improvements (Unload/ Reload faster, Skipping regeneration and calcs for redundant rooms, Area/ volume improved performance)
    - Large selection improvements (Worksharing Controls on/off)
    - Interactive Solar Studies
    - FormIt files can now be linked as CAD file
    - Better mesh management (imports for OBJ & STL)
    - PowerAutomate is a great feature as this helps with Business processes so not just RVT Automation
    - Cloud model non-destructive rollback
    - Updates to Key Schedules
    - Updates to Conditional Formatting with Schedules
    - Schedules filter by sheet
    - Additional Taggable Categories
    - Contour labels will now read better
    - Generic Annotations have an improved orientation
    - Change Page order in PDF Export/ Print out
    - Control fill patterns patterns as parameters
    - Swop views on sheets
    - Additional view filters parameters
These I've found most applicable for Architects.
Sometimes first out the door doesn't mean all relevant content is covered ....

Ah yes of those I had to skip the cloud features for now as most werent implemented in preview release properly yet. The solar study I considered adding but unsure if it will be used much. Most of them are minor updates otherwise but nice to have I guess.

We really need greater modeling control of railings, specifically custom control of a baluster’s location. The railing updates a few versions back were great, but it still difficult if not impossible to model the intended design without hacks or in-place families.
I was so hoping to see something related to railings in this release. At first glance, this one is a big letdown after 2022.

Hi Gavin. Thanks for the summary. Generally agree with you that there is no great improvement, although I do like that we can filter schedules by sheet (at last), that we can duplicate a family parameter (at last), that we can hide a mesh and can edit the print order. I always think it is interesting that different users spend more time with different tool sets.

    • @AussieBIMGuru

The version compatibility is truly an issue. Virtually all my architectural projects are assigned designated Revit versions simply because some consultants have their entire libraries that way and prefer it, some consultants aren't backwards compatible with others, forcing projects into interoperability issues, some users simply make mistakes or windows opens a file in a new version, they miss it and all the work goes to waste. The icon ambiguity tells me that Autodesk really don't give a flying finch about what works for their users and the industry, but only what works for shareholders.

    • @AussieBIMGuru
      @AussieBIMGuru  2 года назад +2

Indeed. I would be happy at this point if they were just honest with users and switched to perpetual patching at 3 month intervals and did away with versioning altogether.

    • @AussieBIMGuru
      @AussieBIMGuru  2 года назад +1

The new icons look so bland, Autodesk had much more interresting icon's in the 2000's. Autocad's Icon literally was the crosshair cursor in icon form. The new version doesn't seem to have much improvements. Version 2022 is great, at least they added PDF export (which saves me a lot of time!). I also like the duplicate sheet option. The only new feature of 2023 that seems somewhat usefull to me is the IFC export mappings. Recently I had to deal with steel connections not exporting in version 2020, seems like you have to manually edit the type mappings in that version in order for them to export. If you've ever wondered why there's the "include steel elements" option in IFC export and it didn't work, well it's got something to do with that. I'll I stick with 2022 for the time beeing.

2022 did have some improvements worth upgrading for but I also think I'll be skipping 2023 for now. @@GregSmith-gi5gp yep agree with all those things. In the meantime I've typically been storing keynote files on google sheets and then using dynamo to construct files from them to get around sharing issues. Will be interesting to see how the piratesourcers handle all their clients moving to b360 over time as more features rely on it.

Mm some nice additions, especially for dynamo users - but I expect the Revit side might not satisfy users as much.

Oh please, at least smile when you are saying phrases like ''Industry is moving towards IFC''. Here is another one they love to say on BIM conferences: ''Our Industry is being Globally Digitised'' 😂 Because people like me ARE in that Industry. And I can tell you much more about IFCs or Real Digitisation. And the reality is completely different. 🤣🤣 Leo (Arch Tech & Eng)

No major issues with IFC personally, just needs better documentation and appreciation outside the BIM circuit to drive proper adoption by firms in markets where it isn't as well understood. Also if Revit made better quality IFC no doubt wed see more adoption too, unfortunately the average user still thinks revit = BIM, so they also see IFC as Revit > export IFC.

@@AussieBIMGuru Oh yes, the key word here is ''IF'' Autodesk makes IFC export not such a nightmare, then yes, maybe we have a future with it. Otherwise, for the last 15 years everyone cursing IFC exports. I have seen most of companies who actually adopting BIM, they trying to steer away from any contact with IFCs. 😂

Autodesk won’t improve their product, monopoly kills quality. Why add reallly useful features everyone would use? Like holes by mep or wall finishes, collision checks and etc etc

I agree on both fronts. The hard thing is I guess they have no pressure from external competitors to do so until there is a viable competitor that people use in preference to Revit for such tasks.
