Thank you SO much for the idea of folding the tulle lengthwise to make it more manageable! I'm not making a tutu, but I do need to cut some tulle for something and was struggling so much because it just wants to go all over the place and not stay in place for cutting, but folding it like that would DEFINITELY make the cutting easier!
thank you so much for sharing! i'm trying to my a tutu for myself for the first time! I'm going participating in a Turkey Trot! This was so helpful! Thanks again!
Thank you! I’m making tutu mason jars for our son and DIL’s baby shower! This helped a ton even 5 years later. Been staring at the tulle for about two weeks being all afraid 😱 of it! Not now 😅
Thank you! I just bought a bolt (40 yds) of tulle today on sale for $36. It’s a wadded up hot mess right now, and I was clueless about the most efficient way to cut it. 🤦🏽♀️ You’re a lifesaver for me! ✌🏼💜🛼
@@MsShellyRio Oh so much pressure! I've never made a tutu, and I'm not a huge fan of sewing, even though I've ended up 'inheriting' so many machines that I've lost count. LOL. The tutu I'm making is for myself, and I want it to be a fluffy high-low w/ribbon trim. Seems reasonable for a 1st project. 😂😂😂
I love your video! I am making my first tutu and I purchase by the bolt and had no idea how to cut the tulle. I do quilting, but you made the cutting so simple. Love your tutorial!
Thank you! for telling how much tulle to buy. I tried other videos and they didn't really say how much fabric to get for an adult tutu. And to make it somewhat easier for the math I suggest rounding to the nearest dollar amount; that's what I do so it sub-consciously includes tax and keeps me on my budget. Great Video
Thank you this was sooooo helpful . I'm in a time crunch LITERALLY and tight on budget. I will go with the bolt measurement method. Saving money to take a little more measuring and cutting time is worth the savings.
Thank you so much for making this video! I am making Tulle hair bows in bulk for someone and I bought by the yard tulle rather than by the spool because it was cheaper and Iwas cutting with scissors and it coming out wonky. This will save me so much time thank you!
Sorry to be so offtopic but does anyone know a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I would love any tricks you can give me!
@Rogelio Raiden i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm trying it out atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Because I am taking an old tulle skirt to create a Halloween costume I came here to see how to cut it before I did anything. So thank you very much! ❤️
I have a gradient tulle, and I’m going to use the no sew method. I need the gradient to be dark at the top and light at the bottom on the skirt. I’m trying so hard to not only cut it properly on the first go, but make sure that the gradient is in the proper place etc… I don’t know if you or anyone can help me, I’m just frustrated and needing to vent a bit…thank you so much for this video.
Lol where is my phone? Been there and done that! my husband takes turns calling my desk phone and cell phone. One day he calls cell phone and I picked up while I was getting all my things together to leave for the day. I say to him, " I'm almost out of here. I just got to find my phone." He tells me to check my hand. LOL ! We both laughed.
I’ve learned that the quality of the tulle will save you money also. The tulle by the yard from Joann’s & Hobby Lobby differs a little bit but not enough to notice. When I got it from Walmart I had to add more layers of tulle because it was so thin and the color didn’t show.
Exactly! I found a place that has tulle extremely cheap by the roll but the quality of it I couldn’t sell to customers. But if your making yourself one for an event or something it would work great, lol..
Just came across your video after going to joanns to buy tulle. I have received an order for a 6 foot table skirt and I thought well maybe I can buy it by the bolt and save money but I guess my math was off! I should have got it by the yard that was. Instead I bought 5 rolls of 100 yards each on amazon for about $7 each to make this skirt and I guess I need to know and keep track of exactly how much tulle I will need. I make tutus as well. Can you make a video of how much tulle needed for all the different sizes?
Thank you for doing this video.. I have a cocktail table that is 36 inches round and 42 inches tall How much tulle would I need for a table skirt ? I would like to buy it on the bolt
Great tutorial! I do have a couple of questions though. If I have several yards of tulle from a bolt, do I cut it into 1 yard sections to fold or try to fold 8 or so yards at once? Also, I have tulle from 2 bolts that is 52 inches wide and tulle from another that is 108 inches wide. How do I fold the wider tulle? I'm trying to make an adult skirt so I won't be cutting the length of the 52 inch tulle since it will be 36 when I half it.
Have a bolt of tulle and I'm trying to unfold it and follow your instructions which look so easy. I'm finding the tulle difficult to manipulate and the strips uneven when I cut on my mat. I have no idea why. Please help
2 Months Ago, I'd ordered 7 Colored Tutu Skirts & I'm planning on buy their Color's Tulle Fabrics to keep from letting my entire legs shown, especially when I wear them when I go out.
Im trying to make a tutu for my 6 year old grandaughter, she is taller and heavier for her age, how would i buy the tulle in yards on the bulk roll say at hobby lobby, they have it for $1.29 a yard but ive never made one before i do have some rolls im going to start out with but im trying to buy it bulk, so it would be cheaper and i can make her more but im lost on how to measure her, her waist is like 31 in, im confused on how long to make it for her age, yes she is chunky but tall to, so im lost on how much i need to buy and how many strips to cut etc, ive been watching many videos, she mostly just wants to play in them but sometimes she wears them to school so i dont want it to shabby lol, but not sure how many strips to cut to make it look fluffy and full. Thank you, love your video
When I was making tutus fairly often a few years ago, I would just buy a role of tulle (usually the $3.99 rolls at Hobby Lobby), put an 18” length of painter’s tape on my table, and just keep rolling out tulle to that length and cutting it over and over again until the roll ran out. That’s usually all it took for a single colored tutu, I think. You might want to get two rolls just to be safe if you decide to go this route, though. Of course, I was tying them on elastic hair bands, so idk if that’d be enough for whatever type of band you choose to use. Hope I helped somewhat!
I’m not sure what you mean by transparent, but tutus are meant to have shorts under it or some sort of bodysuit or leggings. They’re not made to wear just underwear and nothing else.
I honestly don’t remember.. I most likely got it downtown Los Angeles.. You can do a google search of mannequins near you or I’m sure you can order online. Also check Craigslist near you because sometimes stores go out of business and give their stuff away for free or super cheap.
How many yards would you suggest for a size 5 (12 inches in length), size 3 (8 inches in length), and 8 month old tutu? I want to make some for my daughters for halloween!
What is the best tulle to use for a tutu skirt and socks ??? 54 Inch Premium Quality Nylon Tulle Fabric Bolt ( W: 54 inch | L: 40 Yards ) Or 54 Inch Premium Tulle Fabric Bolt ( W: 54 inch | L: 40 Yards ) i’m trying to find out which one makes it more fluffy or is it just the amount of layers that I’m using ???
Hello, thanks for the tutorial. I crocheted a flared skirt (a line). I want to add tulle underneath. The skirt is 21 inches long. Should I cut 18’ of tulle or more. I don’t know what I’m doing but I’m going to look to see if you have a tutorial on how to put it together. Again thanks.
I just brought 6 1/2 yards of tulle. I am making a 8 year old ankle length that is 22 inches long. I am wondering from wide to make the width.? I had a 6inch roll but it was too soft. Thanks in advance
I thought that was a good price too but it is very thin and I ended up going back for more tulle :( So I’ve learned the quality matters in saving money too.
Hello I was wondering if you can help me out by answering my question. I am new to this and I'm on a website and I'm trying to see which method will i get more for my money... I'm lost when it comes to bolt and spool. On the website it says 54" width 40YDS = $4.99 OR 6" width 100YRDS =$1.79 So which will be better to buy? Could you or anybody on this thread help me out on which one to buy?
We’ll you’ll always get more for the money buying by the bolt, but also keep in mind buying by the bolt involves more work time.. If your making adult tutus that are 9 inches long it may take 8 yards of tulle to make an adult small tutu. With that in mind if that means with the 40 yard bolt you can make 5 small adult tutus. The 100 yards on the roll equals 8 yards of tulle if you made the same adult small tutu 9 inches long so that would only make 1 small adult tutu. So 1 100 yard roll means to make 1 tutu would cost you $1.79 + your waistband & by the bolt it would cost you .99 per tutu + waistband.
very nice- i would like to add a little fabric from a previous costume --can you help me figure it out? should i double the fabric -there is not much of it... this is for my adult daughter. .. thanks P.G. this is my first tutu..love your tutorial.. ..
I'm making a tutu for my first time for my 5 year old daughters birthday and I wanted to know if I want it to be 12inches long do I cut the tulle at 24inches because it will be tied in a slip knot, like I've seen on all the tutorials I've seen? Thanks
yep then do the knot in the middle of the strip will be a little shorter then 12 inches because of the knot but shouldn't be by too much if you are worried about it maybe cut 25 inches so you have a inch for the knot
I don’t sell them. I bought mine at Joann’s, but wait until they have a 50-60% off coupon or when the mats are on sale for 30-40% off and then you can combine it with a 20% off sale item! Otherwise full price I think this one was $60
How many yards would you guess id have to buy..... I did find one for $10 for shipping on eBay and I would have to buy 2... and where is your store I would love to look at what you have of getting a new granddaughter and she's going to need tutus
Hi there! Great video, great advice, very helpful! I just wanted to make a gentle comment about your use of the "r" word in the video. I know many people (myself included) find that to be a very offensive term, and since I know you were sharing this video to try to help people, and would certainly not want to hurt anyone, I thought I would just point that out. Thanks for taking the time to read this!
I realized that after someone pointed it out in the comments and I apologized. It definetly wasn’t meant to offend anyone and I definetly don’t use that word anymore.
That depends on how long you want it, the waistband d you use and how fluffy. I use the crochet waistband to make my tutus so it would most likely take about 6 yards or 3 25 yard spools.
Question... im using tulle by the yard for my granddaughters bday tutu and im wanying to add ribbon to the end but the tulle doesnt curls like the spool tulle... any tips to make it curl
You can, but I’m not sure if the quality tulle from there. If I’m making a tutu for myself and I realize the quality isn’t great then I use 3 pieces of tulle per hole for my tutus so it’s not flat and flimsy..
Shelly Rio that's what I'm asking....it would cost a fortune too use the little rolls and I've already spent half a fortune on my daughter's baby shower but I really want one
The neon tulle colors won’t glow, but they do pop under a black light. I did a black light run ina neon orange tutu I wore and it looked like it was glowing even though it wasn’t really glowing. Hope that made sense, lol.:
I am so glad that I came across your channel. New Subbie!! I am getting ready to start my own business in doing tutus, custom design t-shirts and hair bows. I need all the information I can get... Tfs!!!! 😊
Good luck! I make tops too with my silhouette cameo.. I’m horrible at making bows though, lol! Make sure your ready to go a few months before Halloween, that’s the busiest time of the year for ALL Tutu makers!
I just did a tutu for a 4 year.old...you want it to be 20 inches at least so that it will be 10 inches finished...trust me the 14 will be too short for a 7 year old

Hi Shelly. your video helped me a lot. When I made the tutu, it was very transparent. what would you suggest to come over this problem? TIA
I’m not sure what you mean by transparent, but tutus are meant to have shorts under it or some sort of bodysuit or leggings. They’re not made to wear just underwear and nothing else.
thank you great video

@@MsShellyRio thank you!
How many yards would you suggest for a size 5 (12 inches in length), size 3 (8 inches in length), and 8 month old tutu? I want to make some for my daughters for halloween!
It would depend on the waistband you choose to use, but I would say about 9 yards, 6 yards, and 5 yards.
What is the best tulle to use for a tutu skirt and socks ??? 54 Inch Premium Quality Nylon Tulle Fabric Bolt ( W: 54 inch | L: 40 Yards )
Or 54 Inch Premium Tulle Fabric Bolt ( W: 54 inch | L: 40 Yards ) i’m trying to find out which one makes it more fluffy or is it just the amount of layers that I’m using ???

That I'm not sure of as I make tutus, not A line skirts with tulle underneath. I'm sorry..
Shelly Rio I guess I’m trying to make a petticoat to go underneath my skirt.
I just brought 6 1/2 yards of tulle. I am making a 8 year old ankle length that is 22 inches long. I am wondering from wide to make the width.? I had a 6inch roll but it was too soft. Thanks in advance
The tulle spool you can get it at Wal-Mart for 1.97 for 1! It's a good deal
I thought that was a good price too but it is very thin and I ended up going back for more tulle :( So I’ve learned the quality matters in saving money too.
Wal-Mart's tulle sucks
Autumn Roberts I buy mine on walmart and amazon

hi im going to makea full length tutu for my self which is 38 inches in length how do i cut it ( so thats 76 inches)
Love it! I was debating the spool or bulk!
Cute I would love to try to do a baby tutu how do I cut it or can you do a video for a baby please thank you have a blessed day
You cut the tulle the same way regardless of its a baby or adult tutu. The only difference is the length you want to cut it.
How long would you cut for length on a tutu for size 6 in little girls?
Double the amount of the length you want. If you want it 8 inches long then cut it 16 inches long so when you fold it in 1/2 it will be 8 inches
Hi. How much tulle in bolt and spool as well would be required for a 4 year old? TIA
Are you talking about the ribbon trim tutus? Is so I haven’t made them, so I would’nt know..

You can, but I’m not sure if the quality tulle from there. If I’m making a tutu for myself and I realize the quality isn’t great then I use 3 pieces of tulle per hole for my tutus so it’s not flat and flimsy..
If I was to take the long strips after your first cut would tht work for a table skirt
Are you asking can you make the tutu table skirt with the strip method? If so, yes..
Shelly Rio that's what I'm asking....it would cost a fortune too use the little rolls and I've already spent half a fortune on my daughter's baby shower but I really want one
Does this color glow under black light
The neon tulle colors won’t glow, but they do pop under a black light. I did a black light run ina neon orange tutu I wore and it looked like it was glowing even though it wasn’t really glowing. Hope that made sense, lol.:
thanks for sharing
Wal-Mart has it on the bolt for .97 cents a yard
Thank you!!!
Ok Thanks!
Hey girl, where can I buy tulle in bulk?
Before I got my wholesale license I bought it online here www.tulleshop.com
Where’s my phone? 😭 love it!!
Love your video but next time make sure your volume is up
Lol, I was clueless when I filmed
this years ago, now I have lighting, mics, etc🤗
I believe 100 yards for less than 3 dollars for a 6 in spool
Thank u for sharing
Btw the tulle I got was from hobby lobby.
Also, how many yards you think I would need for size 6 little girls size tutu?
Probably 6-7 yards
Hey can you tell me how many inches a 6 & 7yr suppose to be please.?
The length? I’d do 7 inches if you want it fluffy. So cut 14 inches so it’s 7 inches when you fold it.
Shelly Rio thank you so much
No problem!
I just did a tutu for a 4 year.old...you want it to be 20 inches at least so that it will be 10 inches finished...trust me the 14 will be too short for a 7 year old
And the 20 inch was for a for year old so just keep that in kind
thks
How do you put it together??????????????
I'm actually working on putting that video up this week!
Thanks.
