teacher is like a mother teaching her little baby to take his first steps , both of them are great . i'm lucky to found your channel Jill , keep the good work up .
Hi Jill, you are the Best Motivator that I watch until now. You have improved me inspiration about what I call English Sound System: intonation, pitch, rhythm, flow and so on. My personal Idea is that when we speak, we play a musical instrument! Foreign people should speak English by ear first of all and then eventually studing grammar. Thank you so match for this interesting youtube channel.
I'm so glad you are here and that you like it Pasquale. It is a great school of thought to learn music first by ear and then get into the technical stuff. And the same with English. I think it gives us more freedom, right?
I'm tremendously surprised with teacher performance. I never saw anybody teach like this teacher. She is an artist I've seen that video maybe 20 times and realized that the presence of a student make the experience even more valuable.
+Tom Teixeira What an awesome comment Tom. Thanks very much. I am actually a trained performer and I'm glad you see that coming through! May I use this testimonial for future material? Thanks again!
Well done, what most of the negative commenters do not realise is that the exageration will go away after practice, but teaching the exageration helps the learner remember to make the pitch shift. From another native speaker and teacher thank you!
+Collin Willoughs That makes sense Collin. If I may add a point about integrating learning into new behaviors...it is essential that practice is different from real time conversation. During your practice time, you exaggerate so that a realistic version of emphasis shows up in your speech. I agree 100% that people would wonder about you if you spoke in an inappropriately exaggerated way. Hope this helps and thank you for your observation which is very important.
Accent Ace English is my native language. I watched this video to find a video explanation of the differences between "Inflection" and "Intonation". But yeah- the "gliding" definitely sounded like she'd was emphasizing "ten" as if I wasn't paying attention of repeating a question. It makes her sound annoyed.
Have a real conversation to apply what you’ve learned about intonation is very useful. First, you recognize and tell the difference between different intonations; then, you can use the right intonation when reading; finally, you can have a natural conversation. It’s really challenging!
I really enjoy the way that you teach your student. There are many English learning videos. But most of them are just finished by teacher alone. Through the communication between you and your student, I can digest the knowledge more naturally. Thx a lot and hope for more videos.
Yeah! That's my very problem in order to achieving a native-like English ! Thanks a lot for having given me such a hand.As a matter of fact,I'm gonna get kind of improvement with your tips.
thank you very much for share this video. It very useful for everyone who wanna improve thier innotation. this video was very clear and teacher very energetic make me easy to get. thank you again.
wonderful teaching style and great enthusiasm. Intonation is a really crucial lesson for non-natives. Could you please share some exercises to make our vocal chords comfortable for intonation?
Hi mam, I love your teaching. It's so clear accent and intonation. Anyway l like your curly blonde hair. clap! clap! clap!. thank you for your video. It's helped me a lot.
Thank you I understood very well with you explanation, I am in the university and I am receiving this class, also I used to do this because I saw some northamerican doing it but I didn't know It was a class or important.
I liked this video so much as it was clear and energetic! There aren't many real examples in terms of the correction of intonation on youtube, The rest of the videos only introduce the basic patterns, which aren't enough from an ESL student's perspective. And it's just too hard to read a text book without being demonstrated in front of real speech. Nice job! Please keep us posted!
Hi Jill, I have been forwarding the links to my Toastmaster members. Many of our members are ESLers. We all find your videos very helpful. Keep up the great work! Cheers, Albert
***** There are some interesting discussions going on here www.teachingenglish.org.uk/forum-topic/suprasegmental-aspects-phoneticsphonology-first I hope that helps and thanks for your comment.
I have not realized how effective tool for comunication intonation can be. Great video. Thanks for sharing! Now I understand some basics of that melody. Can you explain diferences for US geography if there is a diference. What about British or Australin? I can hear some differences but not got the pattern yet.
For sure there are different patterns of English intonation depending on region of the US and the world. Amy Walker has fun with accents on RUclips. Check her out. ruclips.net/video/4NriDTxseog/видео.html
This video is really helping me on practicing to improve my intonation... I do have a rough time on practicing my intonation during our training... :-)
Wow! intonations are completely different in English, English. Americans have a huge inclined intonation for so much that us English don't. And yet we have more intonation in each sentence.
i just really love all this examples really help me.... this is my first time learn such intonations, @ from pacific island. please! just one question for me can you give me the different patterns in using the intonation. thankyou.
Hi Hardee! There are five intonation patterns in this video associated with different sentence types. Practice a couple of times and hopefully you'll feel more comfortable with it. Thanks for watching!
Should I be stressing the same words I used in statements but with a rising end (for a yes/no question)? OR remain a flat pitch from begining then just rise at the end (for a yes/no question) ?
This is the very first video I watch and I love how this teacher's energy in the class room. Amazing job! Keep it up.
+Jonã Machado So glad you like it. We'll keep posting in this upcoming year. Come on back!!

If someone said to me "The conference call is at tennnnnn", I'd be like "Are you okay?".
+Chasen I'd be wondering if I said something to piss them off.
