Brooklyn's indie superstars Vampire Weekend have a new album out entitled 'Contra' and they stopped by Studio Q to play songs off of it. Here is their song 'Horchata'.
I know they are good at their instruments but they could have never been taught that unique style and the way they come up with these wierd and wonderful lyrics 😂, I really really need that new album, wonder have they released it yet
This song is amazing. Love these guys and Jian. I just saw the keyboard - they've put black tape over part of the name leaving AHA on the back. Love it.
I seriously had to pause it and take the first 10 seconds in. Wow. His voice is perfect, and so is the instrumentation. I've never heard a live version sound so much like the recording.
Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, and Florence +The Machine are the best indie groups in the entire Globe! :D --Maybe its because they actually are original and have talent. (:
@SazzieChan Never you say? Brandon Fowers is amazing singer live as well. I like guys like Ezra and Brandon because they tend to stay away from audio enhancements as much as possible, so people can hear their actual voice.
they play soo goood with soo few instrumentsss!!!!! I LOVE THIS BAND SO FUCKIN MUCH!!!!!! I just got a blue bleedin madras shirt-jacket like Ezra's OH im so exciteeed!!! just sayin :)
@iHazCavities I meant the entire thing though, not just Ezra. XD The keys and the drum, and when the guitar and bass comes in. It's perfection. I love Brandon Flowers' voice :D Such an awesome name too XDD
there are so many members of successful bands who would've been labelled as weird band geeks and picked on in high school before they became famous. imagine how shite the bullies would feel now.
One of the few great bands of our generation.
I’m irish and this is how i learned about what horchata is, I often make it now
I love how he manages to sound exactly the same as in the albumsss ! :)
Being that they're all ivy league students, I guess it isn't coincidence that all of their work sounds sort of "scholarly".
I would have never noticed it, except for Step.
I know they are good at their instruments but they could have never been taught that unique style and the way they come up with these wierd and wonderful lyrics 😂, I really really need that new album, wonder have they released it yet
What an equilibrium.
Time will never make this one fade away. 4 talents melted together playing with the borders of perfection.
Haha, Rostam looks so delighted that his last name was pronounced correctly.
ezra has such a nice voice and he always in tune :D
Omg I seriously listen to this song every single day. It just makes me smile, makes my day 3x's better :)
i love horchata! finally, 2 of my fave things combined: an awesome band and an awesome non-alcoholic drink. let the good times roll!
this band makes me almost greatful to grow up in my generation.

I believe it's a Yamaha VSS30 or something in the VSS range. They used them a few times on the album.
Lovely guitar lines on this version, pity the camera never seems to capture the fingerwork.
haha i love how he does gestures even though no one can see him . . .
ezra has nice eyes :P
@mswesson has to be a mix of tuning, the tape and tissue on the head and the use of a soft drumstick.
En diciembre me tomo mi horchata
This song makes me want to learn how to play bass
it's time
epic
@SilentEcho33 I see. Well, that would explain the 80's influence. Would love to see them recreate the "Take On Me" video.
@MeLrOb1994 LOL "When I find a Persian in a good band I'm as happy as a peacock" That's so cute
@tonytiger78 couldnt have put it better myself. respect.
does anyone know what kind of yam"aha" synths/keyboards does rostam use on this video?
He uses the Yamaha VSS-30. Yamaha's take on the Casio SK-1.
Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, and Florence +The Machine are the best indie groups in the entire Globe! :D --Maybe its because they actually are original and have talent. (:
'AHA' keyboard?Haha man that's cool.
@SazzieChan Never you say? Brandon Fowers is amazing singer live as well. I like guys like Ezra and Brandon because they tend to stay away from audio enhancements as much as possible, so people can hear their actual voice.

I wonder why Rostam's keyboard has the "YAM" blacked out... Maybe he just has something against yams.
CU FOR THE WIN
@iHazCavities I meant the entire thing though, not just Ezra. XD The keys and the drum, and when the guitar and bass comes in. It's perfection.
I love Brandon Flowers' voice :D Such an awesome name too XDD

Hey, that's great! Not a fan of the new album, but this is really nice.
@Frogsig :D I've watched live videos. Jealous! I'm gonna see them some day
What kind of keyboard does Rostam have?
He used a Yamaha VSS-30
This version is so much lovlier than the album version. I think it's because its a bit more laid back? I can't put my finger on it. D:
i like this version better
