I’ve had my 0-Coast about five years and learned a lot from this video, thanks! The 0-Coast has a lot of value for the price. Of course it was a gateway drug into modular, I still use it as the main oscillator for the rest of my setup; all the added features like stepped random, maths, cycling slope, function generator are really handy in larger patches.
Yes indeed it's a very nice starting point for a system and also a very cool little add on for another, it work both ways hahaha. Glad you learned some stuff here ;-)
woa wowza. Of course there are some amazing patches. But I'm impressed with your deep knowledge of synthesis. You are not always just plugging cables at random, but have a general idea of what it should do when you patch the parameters. I would never think to try half the patches you put up. I'm very impressed. I will spend some time on your channel to see what else you have up your sleeve. Thank you so much for advancing the appreciation of the beautiful art of patching.
This got my 0-Coast and Keystep back on the front row...thank you! And thanks for all the content on your channel. I have been following you since Wired Brain, but didn't know it was you at the time! I thought the patches from scratch were insane...(ly good).
Watched loads of your videos as I consider going for modular... thanks. Also took me until now to realise you are the stazma I've been photographing at Bangface for the past god knows how many years. So yeah big ups!
I’m just starting to dabble in modular, I have a PWM malevolent and ordered one of these to start diving for some more evil places. As someone who has tended to write deliberately constructed music, this is new ground for me.
@@thelivingmanpart2 I'd recommend the 0-Coast to anyone but it's indeed great as a eurorack starter companion, as it will provide you all the basic functions you need to start.
I love the tones you can get with this box. I have had mine for about 5 years as well. I was using midi pretty heavy, but for the life of me can't get it working anymore. The cv/gate are not functional either. I have tried resetting the device and reprogramming the midi channel back to the default. All the lights flash as expected, but nothing from the device. I am hoping to find somewhere to have it repaired. I have been using the 1volt and secondary gate to be able to use it, however that limits some of the things I can do with the device. Otherwise it has been a great device for me to learn about euro rack.
Great video. I've just (yesterday) got a 0 Coast and am slowly but surely getting through as much 0 Coast youtubage as possible. I have a little accessibility request. In future videos, when you change a setting or make a patch, please specify exactly what you're doing. Please do not say "then I turn this....and I put a cable there..." because it makes it hard to follow what you've done. But other than that, I know I shall be returning to this video again and again for ideas.
Like all hardware synths, what I like about them is the fact the exist in the physical realm, I can touch them, move them around. After years of using hardware synths I realized that it’s the interface, the way you interact with them, that makes me love them, maybe more than the sound. I also just like the analog sound more, it’s raw and simple in a good way to me.
Strega would give a nice crunchy vibe to the very clean sound of the Minifreak. The 0-Coast would be more an extra voice you can play on top or in paralell to the Freak I guess. Both would be awesome anyway ;-)
Excellent video, very inspiring. Wondering if you could explain the patching configuration to your KeyStep. Actually if you know the Moog Grandmother, how it would be patched to that to allow the keyboard of the Grandmother to play the 0-coast. I’m getting mine tomorrow
@@andrewnancarrow You can use the mutliple to mix signals in you plug multiple outputs to it to only one destination. The best would be to use one channel for each on your audio interface or mixer tho.

It's all well axplained in the manual and the 0-Coast does also have midi, so midi oout from your interface, and line out of the synth to an audio input and you're good to go ;-)

What do you like about the 0/coast? Seems you can make these sounds with pigments, Zebra or MiniFreak plus a whole lot more. It seems very limiting.

Hey my first piece of gear I got recently was the arturia minifreak looking to pair the Strega or the 0-coast with it what do you recommend?

Easy: Grandmother KB out to 1v/oct on the 0-Coast, GM Gate out to contour, KB Vel Out to what you want ;-)
