      @@classicmodeltrains We'll be in the neighborhood sometime between July 29th to Aug ? (whenever we decide to drive home). Last conversation about the trip with wife, we'll most likely get a room somewhere in Billings and spend a night. A little too far from Hamilton to drive back and forth in one day, at least for us old folks.

    I have personal history with NKP 765. Grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana where 765 sat on display for many years having been renumbered 767. I went to Wayne High School (class of ‘75) and one of my teachers, Walter Sassmanshausen, was instrumental in forming the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society who took on the task of restoring 765 into running condition for excursions. In 1990, I have early VHS video of an excursion on 765 from Fort Wayne, to Peru, Indiana with my wife, 5 year old son, and my late Uncle. My Grandfather, Clement Meyer, was a brakeman for many years out of Fort Wayne and I’m trying to figure out if he worked for NKP ( and possibly with 765) or more likely the Pennsy. I currently live in northeast Tennessee and am planning my first layout to be based in part on the yard in Ft Wayne with Nickel Plate and Pennsylvania gear and also the “Tweetsie” ( ET&WNC) a locally important railroad. These videos have helped me immensely! Thanks so much!

      Thank you for the great story. Pretty Cool your old teacher spent his time with the efforts to restore that loco. @@classicmodeltrains train ride was interesting. Though the real fun began in Spokane. Death on the train 5 hour delay, which is understandable, but the and hour and a half later the engine broke down. We made it to Portland 13 hours late. A BSNF locomotive had to tow us part of way and the was bussed after that. Bucket list item, check. Do it again, nope.

    My favorite steam engine is the Southern Crescent #4501, the last of its class, MS. It still runs on the Tennessee Valley Railroad. My wife & I are to soon take a ride on her. It's also my favorite HO scale engine. There's a picture of Johnny Cash waving out of the engineers window. The MS class was a 2-8-2 Mikado. I got a big lump of coal that I smash up with a hammer and use it to glue on top of the molded coal load. Adds some realism to the tender. Cheers from eastern TN

    As someone that is from Lima, the real NKP 779 resides in Lincoln Park in Lima, OH as a display along with a NKP wood caboose and a NKP Dynamometer car. NKP 779 was the last steam locomotive made by the Lima Locomotive Works, and it was preserved by the Allen County Museum as a static display. As far as preserved NKP Berks around, there are about six of them preserved with NKP 765 operating as mentioned by yourself. Also, I wanted to mention that anyone needs a replacement motor for Rivarossi steam locomotives to look up CV-Backshop (not affiliated with seller) for replacement motors. The motor kits will fit Rivarossi and Mantua locomotives along with some other manufactures. Also, as usual, another great video to watch.
    PS: I agree with the one poster about the pronunciation of Lima. It's like the name of the bean, and the town has a mascot of a Lima Bean.

    I have a Rivarossi Berkshire in the C&O Livery. Unfortunately the front is pretty mangled, all the front detail bits are missing besides the front lamps. i suspect from poor storage from the previous owner, also has a loose wheel that occasionally binds the mechanism, yeah my unit is in some serious need of rebuilding before it hits the rails again. I have it packed away with most of my collection now. Be a few months before i even take it out again, then i will go ahead and see what i can do to bring it back like this one. Most of my engines need parts donors when they break down, oh well the joy of being a display operator!

    I did not think you could dip a motor in liquid like that. Could this be done with any motor, or does have to sealed?

    • @classicmodeltrains

      None of these motors I have put into the jewelry cleaner are sealed. It works on small DC motors. I've only done a few this way and so far it's worked great :-)

    Candice Bergen. Would a sonic vibrating cleaner filled with Walmart Jewelry Cleaner work for cleaning train parts?

    WAT IS. the pupose of the thrust washers

    • @classicmodeltrains
      @classicmodeltrains  Год назад

      It's kind of like a friction bushing or a replaceable wear surface on the end of the worm gear. When the worm gear is turning either forward or reverse it wants to be shoved out of the assembly from force being applied to it from the drive gear its turning. The bushings on the worm gear shaft of course hold the shaft in place, and the trust washers are in-between helping to keep the shaft in place and helping to reduce friction.

      I do not. Only articulated ones I have is the Big Boy and the Mallet. Also Now I'm not sure if its pronounced like that funny dance with people in tu-tu's "Ballet" or like a type of hammer "mallet". Perhaps I'll just use Y6a :-)

      After reading this post I had to go back to the Google machine and do more research. I figured since it was named after that French Feller, and the Pere always has that weird extra apostrophe looking thing, I was supposed to make a "Pierre" sound. Well Sir I owe you a beer. Thank you for making me one more smarter by sharing this good information. Seems if there is something out there I can mispronounce I will do it :-)
