man, i remember when escorts and tempos were everywhere but now they have almost gone extinct. this model is really cool looking. hard to believe the big three aren't making small cars anymore.
its not hard to believe if you understand the regulations they put on themselves. they get tax breaks and emissions breaks if a car is above a certain weight, it makes no logical sense to do that if emissions are your goal to reduce but more large cars get made because of it.
Whaaaaaat!!!???? My old Escort GT Cayman! Loved this car so much and the new owner is an awesome dude. Great review and thanks for giving the car the props it deserves!
My dad had a 91 Escort as a beater he used to go back and forth to work. Minus being a GT trim, his was configured similar to this. That 5 speed definitely made it fun to drive. My drivers ed car in school was a 91 4 door Escort with an automatic. Also passed my road test in my mom's 88 Escort Wagon 5 speed. Sure they were base economy cars, but I have many fond memories of them when they were everywhere.
I went from an 88 Escort GT, to a 2002 Focus SVT, to a 2016 Fiesta ST. I love them all. But my little fiesta is a frikin beast. The best thing ford did was design the rear suspension for oversteer. The focus was good, but the fiesta just gets the tail out immediately. You really gotta drive one. They are the most fun you can have in a practical vehicle. They are not only NOT slow, but they hang with cars waaaaay above their paygrade.
I have a 2017 focus ST/2, I think my next car is gonna be a 2017 fiesta st to compliment my focus. Then maybe down the road add the RS to the collection.
My Grammy had one when I was a kid. I remember her being behind people lamenting they weren't going fast enough........." I know it's 35 but you gotta push it a little....."
Holy flashback. I had a 95 GT, had the seatbelts but also airbags and a slightly updated interior. It was pretty quick for what it was and the time. Faster than friends' Beretta GTs and 2.8 Camaros. Being a dumb kid, I drove it like a rental. It would do burnout forever when you dumped the clutch. Amazingly, nothing ever broke on it, ever. Somehow even the clutch was original when it was totalled with over 200k on it. What a great memory, thanks for the review!
I used to just walk right by these back in the day. My buddy had one and I didn't think much of it but now seeing this one I realize it is a really cool car. I would definitely drive one of these.
I had an all white Escort GT from the model before this one. I had it as a kinda beater car because I didn't want to drive my IROC Camaro all the time. In the grand scheme of things it was a pretty bad car but idk it just had a soft spot in my heart. Lots of good memories in that thing.
American manufacturers know small cars still sell. The korean and japanese brands are killing it. American manufacturers abandoned the small car market because it relies on a volume sales approach and they'd rather sell fewer but highet profit margin vehicles.
I owned a 90 GT Escort it had a lot of nice options full gauges pkg, recaro type seats fog lights and I don't know if it was ever raced before I got it but it had a special option on the Air filter box and when you got Above 60 mph and you stepped on it that door would open and introduce more air and really took off, I've never seen another one like it since, it was painted a beautiful Red and gray.
I had a 1994 in black, brand new from the dealership I worked at. I would always bomb this car on the highway to see my girlfriend two hours away and consistently reached speeds of two hundred kilometers an hour. Without a hiccup. I abused that little beast but she was so much fun to drive. That Mazda engine really liked to rev. And I surprised many other cars as a stop light warrior. Thanks for bringing this back to life Zack
This Escort GT looks great and looks like a blast to drive. I remember these and would have bought one then if I didn't already have too many cars in my driveway. Oh, and I love the color!
Ford & GM have given up on the sedan market, leaving it to the Japanese and other foreign automakers. They don't want to make small cars & sedans because they are less profitable than SUVs. It doesn't mean everyone wants big expensive gas-guzzling SUVs. We want or need affordable, fuel-efficient and reliable cars
They usually Made garbage anyways for the last decade. Ford is sad cause they actually make good stuff with the Feista ST and Focus RS. GM had low grade junk for decades and after the cobalt SS they didn’t have shit.
Man, and buddy of mine used to have a purple one of these about 20 years ago. We'd all get in, throw our skateboards in the hatch, and go thrash the town
My late uncle had one in 93 in this color. He took me for a ride in it on some winding country roads, and that moment solidified my love for high performance driving in my already undying love for cars.
Mom had two of these when they were around, a 4 door then a two door. I just remember it, can’t say it had anything that made young me go “wow I want one”. Had we got the all wheel drive with the Mazda motor I might be saying different. My grandad made her switch to Toyota after those two and she always drove Camrys after.
@ yes he was he was a solid Toyota guy and so am I at this point. Have an 08 Solara convertible I just love and we also have a 2011 Camry in the family. Looking to get a Lexus 350 C in a year or so.
I had a friend at college who taught me to drive stick on his brand new GT! I couldn't afford a GT for myself so i just bought an LX with the 1.9 Not nearly as fast but still just very very fun to drive!!
My 1st car was a wrecked 94 ford escort. I bought it at 18 not knowing ANYTHING about cars. I paid 1500$ thst i got when my grandmother died. Needless to say, i felt like 💩 after learning. It lasted about a year and it was my favorite car! I loved it. Comfortable, loud radio, & decent MPG. Trans broke & in 2008 every 1 was broke so i junked it 😢
I would like to find this Escort GT and 4dr sedan LX-E in this color shown, blue, and red in a 5-speed manual only. You don't need alot of power to have fun driving.
I learned to drive and drive manual in this car. It was black. I had so much fun it had nice power. I always thought it was a good looking car especially that grill. Good times.
I think packaging back then was better because the safety standards were not the same as they are now. everything is thicker, taller, and packed with electronics now.
This is one cart that has eluded me when it comes to little compact cars. I've had a prizm/corolla, a geo storm, a ford tempo, and I've always liked this one. I miss all the Hatchback/liftbacks. Very roomy. I am disappointed that BRZ/GR86 and mustangs aren't Hatchbacks
Front wheel drive is a good drivetrain, and i will not accept people who hate it any longer. Good handling, understeer is easy to control, torque steer, is straight up fun, pulling from the front feels confident in lift off, and the controlled wheel spin is fun. More controllable on low traction surfaces as well, and lastly a fwd slide is one of the most beautiful things ive ever seen, the way they can throw it out and have it snap back into line so well is crazy.
Ford really won from using all that Madza stuff. The 2L in the ford focus was Madza (duratec) as was the 2.5L in the Fusion and i even think the 3.5L v6 twin turbo is based on the duratec. I had a '99 zx2 5sp with the zetec. That car was quick and cheap and got excellent mpg.
My friend had a used gt during high school it was fun to be in he had the car for 20 years it was his baby until it got destroyed from a T bone someone ran a red light
"Was available in awd".....hold on. Time out. That is a completely different car. The GT, while great, is just a Mazda 323. The Escort RS is a legend that we never got. It was awd, and the regular version was rwd.
I got a deal where I got a 92 escort GT second run Bigfoot power Wheels and a gs450 motorcycle for 50 bucks. That escort beat every Honda and took my kids mom to the hospital to deliver my kid
man, i remember when escorts and tempos were everywhere but now they have almost gone extinct. this model is really cool looking. hard to believe the big three aren't making small cars anymore.

I owned a 92 Mercury Topaz (re-badged Tempo) back in the day. Not anything great, but a nice little car!
This is some of Ford Australias design work.
Yea both have disappeared from the right places
A mechanic I used to know owned 3 of these at once they are simple easy to fix and reliable
Whaaaaaat!!!???? My old Escort GT Cayman! Loved this car so much and the new owner is an awesome dude. Great review and thanks for giving the car the props it deserves!

Please don’t stop the road/acceleration test, with the light laugh at the end. Love thoses.
That diagonally slotted grill is all class
I went from seeing Escort GTs at every stoplight to this is the first Escort GT I've seen in decades damn
I went from an 88 Escort GT, to a 2002 Focus SVT, to a 2016 Fiesta ST.
I love them all.
But my little fiesta is a frikin beast.
The best thing ford did was design the rear suspension for oversteer.

You really gotta drive one.

Bought one of these in 1991 with a manual. My first new car, and a lot of great memories.
My Grammy had one when I was a kid. I remember her being behind people lamenting they weren't going fast enough........." I know it's 35 but you gotta push it a little....."
I loved my '91 and '93 Escort GTs. I drive their spiritual successor today, a '17 Focus ST.
Yes they did come in AWD. The top the range in Australia was the Ford Laser TX3 Turbo 4WD. Similar drivetrain to the Mazda Familia GT-X.
The looks of these have aged amazingly, so fantastically early 90s yet still handsome
I had an 89 Escort GT and then a 1992 GT both were 5 speeds and a blast to drive. 😎👍
That car on those tires with that suspension if the alignment tech was worth his salt has got to be an absolute machine.
I used to just walk right by these back in the day. My buddy had one and I didn't think much of it but now seeing this one I realize it is a really cool car. I would definitely drive one of these.
The shifter boot and knob looks like the ones that was in my 1993 Mazda Protege I owned back in the day.
I bought my GT brand new in Cayman Green. It was a huge improvement from the 1990. A truly great example of the 90's Ford/Mazda partnership.
Do you still have it?
Nice to see one of these still kickin'
I had an all white Escort GT from the model before this one. I had it as a kinda beater car because I didn't want to drive my IROC Camaro all the time. In the grand scheme of things it was a pretty bad car but idk it just had a soft spot in my heart. Lots of good memories in that thing.
lol is all that needs to be said.
Having the Ford as your DD because you knew deep down it was the more dependable car 😂
@@memphis_sean8169 Hahaha sometimes that was true actually
American manufacturers know small cars still sell. The korean and japanese brands are killing it. American manufacturers abandoned the small car market because it relies on a volume sales approach and they'd rather sell fewer but highet profit margin vehicles.
My friend’s late 90’s high school ride was a 93 GT. It was just a great car for its price with the BEST engine MAZDA ever made in it.
Same here. In the late 90s in high school, my friend had a red ‘91 Escort GT. I loved that car.

You would not be able to do that with the 1.9 Lol
@zythr9999 lol true that brother 😂
I've been all about escorts recently. Love the wagons too.
You may not have loved driving a loaded one up the hill with the AC on.
This Escort GT looks great and looks like a blast to drive. I remember these and would have bought one then if I didn't already have too many cars in my driveway. Oh, and I love the color!
I used to have the European version, MK6 Escort Si 1.8 16v Zetec Coupe 115hp 5 speed, green as well, was a lot of fun
Great - I just ordered an OG Escort GT shirt because that was my first car. 🤦♂️
NO ONE will know what it is. But that’s what will make it great.

It doesn't mean everyone wants big expensive gas-guzzling SUVs. We want or need affordable, fuel-efficient and reliable cars
just watch, honda and toyota will see record profit in the next few years. hopefully vw and nissan can pull through though
No, you don't say? lol
They usually
Made garbage anyways for the last decade. Ford is sad cause they actually make good stuff with the Feista ST and Focus RS. GM had low grade junk for decades and after the cobalt SS they didn’t have shit.
@@JNAMOTORSPORTSthey had the G8 and SS but killed them of course. Along with the Camaro. Now it's just trucks and copy/paste SUVs.
Man, and buddy of mine used to have a purple one of these about 20 years ago. We'd all get in, throw our skateboards in the hatch, and go thrash the town
My dad used to have the wagon, same year and color. I want to get one, really good cars.
Always liked these. Good video brother.
I had a 92 Escort GT, 02' Focus SVT and now a 16' Focus ST and 17' Fiesta ST 👍
My late uncle had one in 93 in this color. He took me for a ride in it on some winding country roads, and that moment solidified my love for high performance driving in my already undying love for cars.
I used to have a 91 pony that I loved, no horsepower but it was a 5 speed and super fun to drive. Also no AC or power steering ever came in those.
Very smart grandad👍
@ yes he was he was a solid Toyota guy and so am I at this point. Have an 08 Solara convertible I just love and we also have a 2011 Camry in the family. Looking to get a Lexus 350 C in a year or so.
It got Mazda fun DNA all over it.
I had a black 94 GT, loved it.
I had 2 Escort GT's way back when. An 88 and a 90. Ended up trading the 90 in on a 90 Mustang GT. Fun little cars with great handling.
nailed wheels and fitment 👌
Very cool! I first saw this same car in college. Band new same color casually parked on the street. Yep fun car😊
Learned to drive manual on this car, it was pink, GT, and learned on Fort Hood while rolling up blunts 1995.😅
I had a friend at college who taught me to drive stick on his brand new GT! I couldn't afford a GT for myself so i just bought an LX with the 1.9
Not nearly as fast but still just very very fun to drive!!
My 1st car was a wrecked 94 ford escort. I bought it at 18 not knowing ANYTHING about cars. I paid 1500$ thst i got when my grandmother died. Needless to say, i felt like 💩 after learning. Your amazing personality made me subscribe. Great video bro. Shout out from Carlsbad New Mexico🌶
I would like to find this Escort GT and 4dr sedan LX-E in this color shown, blue, and red in a 5-speed manual only. You don't need alot of power to have fun driving.
I remember buying one in 95'...fun car 🚗
That Zack....he's a good kid.
Didn't Bob Lutz end up at GM in the end
My first car was the sedan 4 door model with the 1.9l. Auto though :( was a fun car to beat on in high school lol
My grandmother had the base model with the auto and 45,000kms!
I learned to drive and drive manual in this car. It was black. I had so much fun it had nice power. I always thought it was a good looking car especially that grill. Good times.
I think packaging back then was better because the safety standards were not the same as they are now. everything is thicker, taller, and packed with electronics now.
I've had a couple of EGTs and I miss them
Had a 98 escort when I was 18 and wanted a rwd one since
This is one cart that has eluded me when it comes to little compact cars. I've had a prizm/corolla, a geo storm, a ford tempo, and I've always liked this one. I miss all the Hatchback/liftbacks. Very roomy. I am disappointed that BRZ/GR86 and mustangs aren't Hatchbacks

FWD is a different fun than RWD. Id rather have the miata motor in a miata but I won’t hate either.
Road America! 🤘
This feels like the fiesta ST’s father, not as fast as his kid, but just as raring to go for a canyon carving adventure
90% of these cars still around have cracked and broken bumpers because of the poor quality plastic they used back then.
I remember this car as kid I used see them everywhere lol
This car is my favourite! greetings from Poland
I always like the look of this escort.
Too bad we didn’t get the awd turbo cosworth
I owned one of these little Escort GT.'s it was a fun car.
Hell yeah 😂 I miss seeing these around
That color and slanted grill are the 🐝 s knees
Miss these cars
That was not a bad car. Would I have preferred a Nissan SE-r, yes, but coming from Ford and factoring in the bang for the buck, two thumbs up.
I had a 1991, it was fast for the time. Then I traded it in on a Mustang GT; then the Escort GT seemed slow.
I miss 2dr hatchbacks.
Had one of these way back in the early 90s. Didn’t last very long (murica!) drove alright for the times though.
I had a 9 3 escort wagon or was it a 94? I can't remember but I missed that thing. It was awesome
I remember driving one of those after test driving a miata, and that car felt incredibly anemic XD
Hi man! Do you want to review 82 KID the Subaru Outback again?
I actually had a 1995 1.9L version of this car. It was pretty cool!
That is such a cool looking car I swear
I want one of these so badly😭😭😭😭😭
My first car was a 94 Tracer
i love my 2002 escort, i want a 93 automatic
Had a 88 escort . Liked the look but it was problematic. The second gen ( Mazda) is the most reliable and loved the wrap around spoiler of the 91-92
My cousin had one of those way back in the day
I'm also near 40 and love car reviews video games and weed. 😊✌️
I owned a 1991 black ford gt 5 speed I miss it was my first car
My dad has a white 93 escort sedan with the 1.9 and the automatic trans
Lol
Cool car look good keep it up 👍
This would be a fun one to work on.
Would so of bought a 90 escort wagon back then!
I bought and sold several of these
I had a Matchbox car rally version of this. I thought it was the coolest car ever.
was it that white and blue one? My favorite matchbox as well
The 1991 all the way to 2002 Escorts, Mazda Protege platform. Very good cars, although noisy lol
Love this car I want one 😫
Cheap fun back in their day.
I got a deal where I got a 92 escort GT second run Bigfoot power Wheels and a gs450 motorcycle for 50 bucks. That escort beat every Honda and took my kids mom to the hospital to deliver my kid
Wish the colour would return on new cars
Cool car!
En México se vendió el Escort gt en 1992 a 1996 y era un excelente auto, mucho mejor que el Escort zx2!!
Anyone remember how much they cost when they came out I had a 92 escort GT ultra Blue and I can't remember what I paid for it
