Hey Dunn and Beth, it is me again. Well, being from Ahmedabad, I possess some authority on discussing Kites haha. You mentioned in this video that the Atal Bridge roof is shaped like Kites. The reason behind it is that since this bridge was erected, it has become the signature destination in Ahmedabad, and the idea behind putting kite shapes is also very much connected to Ahmedabad. On every 14th and 15 January the Amdavadis celebrate Kite Festival. It is called Makarsankranti or Uttarayan in the local language Gujarati. I would not lie if I say that for Amdavadis 14th and 15th of January are even bigger than Diwali, which is the main festival of Hindus. We not only fly kites from our terraces during the daytime for two days but even at night we fly them with candle-lit balloons attached with the thread of the kite. Families meet each other just to enjoy kite flying, and of course, they eat delicious meals and sweets made specially for these two days. Officially there is only one holiday, and that is on 14th January, but for the last many years, even business houses have been giving two days' holidays for their employees. As you mentioned in this video 12 hours are not enough in Ahmedabad, I am sure you both will come back soon to my city, and I would be honored to host you and take you to the length and breadth of Ahmedabad. Cheers!
Hello hi best of luck to your tour in India. And I suggest to visit two more place, Aagrah and Tirupati (South Indian femus temple) if possible. 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
How is that aquarium museum in comparison to the one in London? You might be able to get a cheaper print for your cards in India if you intend to give away more to people, in India or abroad. I think you are getting more attention because of your tshirt.
When I went to Ahmedabad for a week, I had just one tuk tuk driver taking me everywhere. He was so helpful and genuine. I definitely agree with you 💯 that tuk tuk drivers are really honest and helpful there. 👍
Dan.& Beth, welcome to India. Tips : If u can't eat all the dishes you have ordered u can tell the hotel waiter who served u to pack the leftovers. Nobody would mind, that way u don't waste your money or food. Most of the hotel will pack the remaining dishes which u r unable to eat bcas u had enough. Very few restaurants will say no. U can take that along with u and eat in your accommodation. If curry is leftover buy some roti or naan on the way. Do it when u r not spending the whole day roaming bcas than the food wld get spoilt due to the heat. Order some and pack some when u r sure to reach your hotel where u r staying and eat it in your room. That way u will eat what u wished and not waste your money or food. All the best to u both 🙏
Well, I heard you guys saying they don't smile much while you were getting the tickets. I realised that when I lived in Sydney for 2 years and got back to Ahmedabad!! I arrived my hometown Ahmedabad airport and the guy at the counter is checking everyone's Vaccination / documentation. I reach there at the counter, I ask Hi mate, how are you? And he was like, vaccination document? He looks at it, gives it back and says all good. I think that was clear reminder that how things work here in India. I was the same like that guy before I moved to Sydney!! I think it has a lot to do with the number of people they deal with on daily basis!! If same thing would have happened with me in any other country, I would think they are being rude but in India, that's normal and they are definitely not trying to be rude to anyone!!
