I think you guys have visited old city area... And ofcourse, that area is underdeveloped... But other areas are decently Developed... SG Highway, CG road, Sindhu Bhavan road, Science City area and many more... And the riverfront is also widespread accross the city... So it also depends that which area of riverfront are you visiting... It is mostly clean but in some areas people lack civic sense and litter around....
so the "stew & dumpling" thing that you are talking about is "Dal-Baati". Dal is lentils & Baati is made from wheat flour but instead of rolling it flat & making Chapatis out of it, they are rolled into balls & then can be baked in an oven. Hot Baatis are then dipped in ghee (clarified butter) & served with Dal along with a few other accompaniments like pickle, garlic chutney & churma which is a sweet made from wheat, ghee & sugar. (lol) you guys look absolutely stunning in Indian attire. its like you are at Home :) additionally, not to scare you off but request you to use neck or a wrist strap for your mobile phones. in quite a few vlogs i saw that the phones are not secured properly in terms of grip while walking around (in the Heritage Walk one as well) or in the Rickshaw, just keeping it on the lap. Most people are nice but incidents of mobile snatching are common. better safe than sorry. :) we definitely want you guys to have as safe & comfortable trip as possible. ciao ✌

The beauty of so much cultural diversity is There are nonhard and fast rules to wear or even eat, anywhere in India. I you want to dress in a certain way (as long as its not vulgar), or eat a certain dish in a particular way, nobody will question you, be the judge of yourself and make yourself as much comfortable as you can. (Like you want to wear a mundu/lungi/dhoti/payjama-kurta, or any other attire) Additionally, people here do get pleased when they see a person from any other culture trying to embrace the local culture, but that is an added advantage.

I you want to dress in a certain way (as long as its not vulgar), or eat a certain dish in a particular way, nobody will question you, be the judge of yourself and make yourself as much comfortable as you can. (Like you want to wear a mundu/lungi/dhoti/payjama-kurta, or any other attire)
Additionally, people here do get pleased when they see a person from any other culture trying to embrace the local culture, but that is an added advantage.
