I was just wondering what I was going to watch this evening on a damp Tassie Saturday night. To the mancave I go. Thanks Starlo.

Hi Starlo, loving your RUclips series. Just signed up today to your Fishotopia so looking forward to more stuff from you. As a (let's say) experienced (some would say old) troutman fishing both streams and lakes I thought I'd give you a couple of comments on your excellent clips.
Re untwisting the line: you offer great advice and I've found that when retrieving the line from downstream rapids it helps to actually lift the line above the water surface, into the air and so remove all the tension. This enables the line to more easily untwist without the tension of the rapidly flowing water keeping the line tight. Of course, retrieve the line through your fingers to ensure proper tension going onto the reel.
I'm a landing net man but as you pointed out landing nets catch in every branch and blackberry along the stream. I solve the problem by carrying a flick net in a scabbard. it's important to test out the net and scabbard in the shop to ensure proper fit, easy extraction of the net and an easy "flick open' operation.
    Keep up the good work.
    Cheers, Chris.

    Hey Starlo,
Great vid and I agree with it all. Just one question. What about soft plastic? For nearly 40 years I've fish with Celtas, Rapalas, Tassie Devils and many other hard bodied lures, but in VIC streams over the last decade none seem to match what I catch on 2 - 4 inch soft plastics.
I've tried most brands and variations, but Berkley Powerbaits in the minnow (for shallower, fast flowing) or paddle tail (deep, slow pools) seem to be head and shoulders above the rest.
Is this surprising to you or have I los the plot?
And there's other advantages too. With just a single hook there's less snags, fouling with weed, and the fish are easier to release undamaged.

I agree. Softies go really well on them, although I do find that I miss a few more hits than I do on treble-equipped hard bodies and possibly also jump a few more off after hooking them. But yes, smaller soft plastics on light jig heads are a very effective weapon for trout in both flowing streams and still waters.

And am for the beard mate that’s 10/10 ripper beard (unusual comment ) however it takes a bit to get it looking as good as the iconic STARLO or Bushy beard
