Difficult air filter change

  • The glass window in the new top on my 986 Porsche restricts access to the engine bay, making routine maintenance difficult. I also find a loose part that could be contributing to a noisy rattle.

Engine access on the boxster is not the best. Takes forever to get to the engine compared to transaxle Porsches where you just pop the hood. Have been considering converting to manual top for fast access. Great video

Oh. My. Gosh. When you showed that original air filter. I started twitching! Crazy! Subscribed about a year ago, love your channel!!

When I first saw that original air filter I became very concerned about how the car had been maintained. I don't have any maintenance history records, so I feel very blessed that the car performs as well as it does.
Thank you for watching, and thanks for subscribing.

I’m in the same boat. I only have Carfax records to show any previous maintenance. But the more we continue to take of the car, use it, notice things and fix them, I suppose over time the previous owners maintenance sort of disappears. 😎
I swear any car starts to drive better when given some TLC even when it’s something that isn’t mechanical.

Very interesting video, as always :) I don't know why on top of interesting me it relaxes me watching somebody working on this car :)

Maybe that should be my new hook for viewers, "Relax, and watch me work on my car". LoL
      Thanks for watching

@@jasonsporschechannel945 That title works for me too, as I watch your video for inspiration and entertainment before heading outside to work on my 986. I subscribed quite a while ago. I appreciate your humble approach to learning and working on these cars. By the way, I too have the glass rear window. If you pop off the cable ends that are hanging at the rear on either side of the top you will be able to raise it much further. If you need even more access, removing the metal top cover completely should be considered, especially if one's going to be in there for a while.
      Looking forward to more videos.

@@lifelonglearner7901 Cool, I'll look for those cable ends next time I'm in there. Thanks for watching, and thanks for subscribing

Thanks for another good video. I notice your car which is very similar to mine has an 'S' symbol on it. Mine has the same and I have seen others as well. Just wondering if there was a special edition?

Not as far as I know. I'll think there was an aftermarket Letter "S" that a previous owner bought and applied to boost performance. LoL
You can tell a Boxster S buy the painted brake calipers and duel exhaust tips, (both of which I intend to do to this car in the future).
I've thought about removing the "S" but don't want to damage the paint underneath. (Plus I might loose some performance)
      Thanks for watching

Nice job Jason. I still have a plastic rear window top in good shape on my 986S. So you would recommend keeping a plastic window top?
I believe I have seen bungee cables used to hold up the rear top while in service position. Maybe use on the clamshell too.

Yes, especially if you have quite a few projects to take care of on the top of the engine, The plastic would really simplify things (plus you don't have to worry about breaking the glass window when it hits the roll bar). Bungee cords probably would have given me 2 or 3 more inches. I'll have to try that next time. Thanks for watching
