  • A beautiful day in one of our favorite Alaskan towns! Juneau brought out the sunshine as we got to visit Mendenhall Glacier, the Shrine of St. Therese, breweries, I got to walk down Sandy Beach in Douglas before we had dinner with friends and headed back to the ship.
Juneau is one of those towns that is always beautiful and always fun to visit. We already can't wait to come back!

Started cruising in the previous century on Holland America. Amazing art collection on each ship! Nothing else was noteworthy, but that was a long time ago. Had the opportunity to (but didn't) sail on the 50's vintage Rotterdam, the last STEAM ship still in service. In retrospect, should have booked the Rotterdam. It had double helix non-intersecting stairways to separate first class passengers from the common folk! We did the Statendam, but berthed next to the Rotterdam in most of the Alaska ports!

Omg the malamute made me cry. I had a male red malamute literally identical to the one you seen. His name was Mario and he was the most gentle giant ever. Very protective of my kids. He passed 2 years ago at the age of 13 and I still cry over him. Thank you so much for showing that beautiful malamute cuz now I can think back on memories of my sweet giant Mario

Long-term Douglas, Alaska resident here. Just found your video in my feed and wanted to thank you for such beautiful footage of (and positive reaction to) our community. I feel fortunate that I get to hike with my dog in all these magical forest trails, rocky beaches, and especially the Treadwell Mine trails at Sandy Beach. Eagle Beach is another great spot for those who rent a car. (Note to those renting Jeeps: Don't forget to ask about the "Jeep Wave", it's proper etiquette.) Nugget Falls and the shallow tide-pools of the lake is an area where my kids used to swim when they were growing up as well as Sandy Beach on Independence Day. Skaters Cabin and the Montana Creek camp-grounds are also worth checking out if spending the night in the area.

We sailed on Holland America on a land sea tour of Alaska.
I love the size and classic ship style of HAL. The service is amazing, and we enjoyed the food, entertainment, but most of all the naturalists onboard. Going to Denali was great experience. We had great weather, saw lots of whales and other wildlife, and even saw the northern lights.
    Hope we can return someday.

Thank you for showing us more beauty in Alaska. My daughter and I took a cruise to Alaska from San Francisco Bay in September 2022. We were so lucky to have beautiful weather for the entire time we were in Alaska. We enjoyed ourselves so much. The coastal cities Ketichan, and Juneau were absolutely spectacular. And yes everyone told us how lucky we were to see the sun as they had had rain the day before. It is a cruise I want to take again. Amazing! ❤

We took our first AK cruise on Holland the week before you took this cruise! Our experience was very good. As I’m sure you know, Holland seems to fit an older demographic. My husband and I are in our mid 40s and had a great time! They didn’t have quite as many activities as ships we’ve been on in the past (Disney and Carnival), but overall we really enjoyed that it was a smaller ship. Food was decent, staff was lovely. Yes, Adam....I have cruised on Holland America , the 2nd time we cruised. 1st time , we cruised we did Princess. But our time on Holland America, was a bit of a disappointment. We had a veranda stateroom, and we couldnt even sit out on our balcony, because a guy, down 1 deck and over 2...was smoking a cigar, every night! Granted this was a long time ago.....so maybe smoking on the balcony was allowed. We got off in Skagway, that cruise, took the train into the Yukon, over thru Delta junction, stopped at the North pole and saw Santa, then Fairbanks down to McKinley, which can tell you how many years ago that was, then train down to Anchorage, stayed at a B&B for 5 days, then flew home to Pa. Vickie, again
