At the ends I used black gasket seal it turns like rubber when dry Tape each side leave a 10mm gap then lay out the seal and flatten off pull the tape off when wet still at an angle so you don’t get a lip. Works perfect

Amazing work, may I ask what was the purpose of the black spray paint? Would really appreciate a response, I am doing a carbon project on my own steering wheel

we use black paint before clear coat for a cleaner result for the finish product. On the steering wheel maybe not so important, but if you make a Dekor panel or other parts, looks better when the back is clean and matte black

@@CARBONART. for the grits is it like then this?
or when do you do 240 / 600
      sand with 80-100 grit
      apply carbon fiber layer
      apply 4 layer of epoxy
      full cure
sand with 240 grit to level
      sand with 600 to smooth
      clear coat

      @@rawrtravisrawr hi,
After clearcoat, 3-4 layer you must tempered the parts around 8 hours by 70-80 Celsius to make the Resin heat resistant, after this we start with 80or 100 grit.
At next we use 240 and finish with 600 under water. You can use 800 too but not finer, If you use 1000 or more the clearcoat will not fix so good.
If you have pinholes after clearcoat, you can sanding it again with 600 and repeat the clearcoat. It’s important to have no air bubbles in the resin for a perfect for the clearcoat.

That’s slick looking ! How many hours to do that , 25 ? When you did the final clear did you use a automotive clear or Dura Tec w/UV inhibitor ? And yes,A 3rd showing the final assembly would be good to see . Oh yeah, what do you charge to do that ? Thanks & have a good one ! One more thing-where did you find the orange battery small sander ?? Thanks

    • @CARBONART.
      @CARBONART.  Год назад +2

Hi, 3 part with the leather is not possible. The Alcantara make a other company for us. The orange machine is not the best. We use a other today. You can look in eBay for a mini polish Maschine. 25 hours? No.. the real active time to produce a Carbon steering wheel from start to finish take 3-5 hours. But over days. We need time for dry the layers. The leather job from other company I think 3-4 hours

Thanks for the response! I do a lot of composite work in custom cars so other types of work get my attention. For recovering I’ve used “Craft Customs” in Texas & they do very nice work ! I found a sander on Amazon- SPTA battery polisher kit for $190. Have a good one 😎
