I admire them both for their individual works and lives. If Marilyn copied Harlow at first I'm thankful, to me there's been no true blonde icons since.

I enjoy movie-star biographies and know of several about Harlow. "Harlow' by Irving Schulman (1963 or so) should be avoided because it has been discredited for false information. I recommend "Platinum Girl" (1990's) by Eve Golden who also wrote about Theda Bara. I've read that Jean's death was listed as cerebral edema caused by renal failure which may have been set in motion by scarlet fever when Jean was 15. I've also read that her hair was bleached with peroxide, soap flakes and ammonia and that there may have been some leaching into her system which contributed to her death. (We'll probably never know now.) Jean's first big movie, 'Hell's Angels" has held up remarkably over the years. Even the special effects still look good. Jean was an inexperienced actress at the time but she had presence or star quality---and real eyebrows! One or two scenes were done with early color film. Jean Harlow was a voracious reader with a photographic memory and worked with screenwriter Carey Wilson on a novel called "Today is Tonight" which was published long after Jean's death. I have a copy but haven't read it yet!
@@retrobebop61 That is another of those fictional things about Jean passed down. Actually Jean returned to her natural honey blonde hair color several years before her death.
