Lever Brothers was originally a British firm. The badges were part of a marketing effort, and were given to children in schools. Around the turn of the century, American cities were full of poor immigrants living in crowded housing with one washing room/toilet per floor (multiple apartments/flats/rooms). Public health advocates had inspired cities to open public showers and swimming pools to allow (and encourage) immigrants both from overseas and from farms to wash themselves regularly, which many had never done. Here near Boston in Cambridge, Lever Brothers produced soap at a 1000 employee factory. And Lifebuoy was regularly advertised on television into my adulthood, and is probably still for sale.
And Lifebuoy is a brand of soap that is still sold in stores today. 🙂 In addition to helping with a social ill, they were also helping create new customers.
Thank you so much. Very interesting! But so sad to me. I always am greatly upset by the way poor people were treated and unfortunately some still are ( I try hard to do my part to help) but very happy that someone tried to help and fix a problem that probably caused alot of sickness and disease. It also makes me very thankful to GOD and humbled that he has always allowed me access to clean water and nice showers.
Hi, I dropped by just to say that the item you found is indeed a Japanese netsuke of an ox or water buffalo. Netsuke is made of different material, but I believe yours to be of ivory. It is a VERY NICE find and a netsuke is now on my bucket list! If you google “netsuke ox” you will see many other examples similar to your recumbent ox with legs tucked under. All the best! Cheers!
Thank you Kate and Fleur for another wonderful video full of wonderful and questionable finds and all the history that goes with them. I agree with someone that the "Were-wolf " looks like the Dragon from "the Neverending Story" Congrats on 26K
Really?? You think it looks like Falcor?? I just don't see it, but that doesn't mean you're wrong. Falcor has squared off ears, this one has pointed ones. Falcor has such a sweet face with his big eyes and long muzzle. But if you think you're right, I won't argue.
Yes! It is Blue Lace Agate. Periwinkle Blue is my favorite color, and so, it is one of my favorite stones. It doesn't look old, but still so beautiful!
The little bisque animal seems almost medieval inspired in design to my eye. Maybe a manticore? A sort of man-lion beast, so not far off a werewolf! I love it, whatever creature it's suppose to be!
‘One and All’ is the Cornish motto and also of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. The DCLI had their own dinner services so maybe the pottery is from that. Wonderful channel, always, for us - ‘One and All!’.
I think your mystical creature might be a very worn water buffalo. It looks like worn horns in front of the ears. Similar to the horns on the ROB clay pipes. Thank you once again for a wonderful adventure and finding long lost history.
Your videos are so satisfying. I’m not watching anymore other people who mudlark. Just Nicola, northern mudlarks and Si-fi. Sometimes I fall asleep during watching but I love what you do 😊 I really adore your videos! Only in good way 👏🏻 keep doing great job
@marilyndreamwalkermejorado1208 Perhaps give Dirty Secrets of Scotland a try also. Willie is into bottle digging, metal detecting and mudlarking. He's also a very talented musician. I came across his channel when he was featured in a Northern Mudlarks video.
I think the creature looks like a Japanese interpretation of a water buffalo Xxx Love all your videos and enjoy the history that goes along with them, I've been a fan from the beginning of your channel and enjoyed every single episode Xxx
Kate is an encyclopedia of book references, gem stones, culture etc etc. Glad she is wearing knee pads 😂 I get excited by nice stones too, hence my pockets are all full of sand and grit 🤦♂️ More great finds and that beach is STILL providing the goods! That werewolf definitely needs toning to look like old stone as a mini gargoyle/statue! Lever Brothers were based at Port Sunlight and their factory was a stone's throw from my house (now unilever factory and research). I plan to model their old steam locomotives ironically 😂
The dome shaped coral would make the perfect 'specimen' for the dollhouse study, wouldn't it? The other corals, I don't know...wonder if they are fossil remains or animals, but then that's what coral is, isn't it? Next thought is was there an American/English base near that spot from one of the WWs? That could explain the mix of artifacts you're finding. You two have sure been having some great hunts! Thank you both for taking us along!
Netsuke's are not only made of ivory or bone. There are ones made from porcelain, wood, nuts, antlers. I think your object looks Japanese. Greetings from Holland! P.S. Maybe it's the handle of an umbrella/parasol?
Netsuki is the word you're looking for Fleur the ivory ones are highly collectable. It looks like the dragon from The Never Ending Story to me. Excellent finds thanks for bringing us along :)
Awesome finds. Even items from here in America. That copper metal looks like a bracelet for arthritis. And that animal looks like the "Wolf from Little Red Riding Hood" or the Hound from "The Hound of The Baskervilles"... really creeping looking what ever it is.
Hello from Canada Hi love your video's, I have watched alot of mudlarking but I so enjoy your video's. I love the excitement it brings to you and everything is amazing, what a change from the monotone voices or so much hype that is so fake. Keep what you are doing can't wait for the next video.
To me, the odd little dog-creature looks very similar to the giant dog in The Neverending Story. I know there were sequels to that movie as well. Maybe it is from one of them. I so enjoy every episode every week. And the miniatures too. Great job!
I think your 10x20 type block might be a placeholder. Possibly 10 points tall by 20 picas long for a newsprint? At least that's what came to mind from my old days of studying graphic arts typography.
That looks like an ornament of a dog with a ball, the blue lace agate is beautiful, I love gemstones, the cornish coat of arms sherd story is very nteresting, so are the stories of the badges and coins, so enjoyed this video as usual, thank you.
What a lot of metal bits and bobs you found. I have three mowers and they have Briggs and Stratton engines so they are still going today. Love Fleur's lace agate. I carry with me an Amethist which is my birthstone. Don't know if you have recieved my present for Fleur's birthday yet or not? Its only 4 months late!! So nice to have another video from you girls. Stay safe .
I was just watching another video that I think you guys may like since you love dolls so much. Her channel is Irene's Restoration and she restores antique broken dolls, using a lot of antique tools. I love watching you guys and I thought this might be right up your alley, provided you guys have time with all your work. Thank you as well for taking us with you on your journeys 😁
You had some lovely and interesting finds this time. I would say I thought your mystery item could be a Kangaroo. Lots of history and like the blue Lace agate. Thank you
Thank you two for still doing Mudlarking. Briggs and Stratton make small engines here now in the United States for like lawnmowers and generators I have one myself the generator just thought I’d put my two cents in thank you ladies
Could your mysterious creature be a gargoyle? Also, the finding that Fleur wondered about is likely a clasp from a Victorian watch chain. Finally, I think you’ve got a dress or hair clip, as shoe clips (and buckles) are curved.
The figurine of the animal is an interpretation of a water buffalo. It could have been on a porcelain figurine of some oriental life. But I believe that is a Water Buffalo.
Feel sorry for the animal that had to wear a collar like that 😳 love your videos you do make me smile. The agate is beautiful and your little wolfy thing is a bit creepy 😬 tfs
The figurine is probably a hunting dog, but I think a werewolf is so much better! Love that shoe clip, how glitzy it would have looked back in the day...
I love love, loved this! I’d watch anything you film because you both have a lovely video style. If you ever did a third channel it should be called K & C’s house of many hobbies, just as you said. I loved seeing all the deeeelicious produce being harvested. Green earth magic there! Share, share away anything you video. 💚💚💚🌱💚
Hi, I agree the mystery animal might be a netsuke. I found a picture of an ivory netsuke on an auction site - a dog nursing a pup, attributed to Okamoto. Obviously the pup is missing, but that would explain the curved shape.
I don't now if someone said it before, hat the small "corrals" aren't some. They are parts of fossil seaurchinspines. Send you a big hug from germany, i love your channels. 🥰
The creature for some vague reason I can't recall reminds me of some artists drawings of beings in a very old 1800's Illustrated Alice and Wonderland Story Book. I am over 70 and recall old books from my mother's and grandmother's generations that had drawings of a creature like that. Perhaps it was a child's favorite storybook creature toy Thanks for sharing. Anne Minnick, Massachusetts, USA. Carpe Diem. Namaste
Kate, when you went to pick up that mottled blue glass bead, I could've sworn it was next to an alley gob, jack, knucklebone; whatever you call it. It looked to be a bit damaged, but I thought for sure that's what it was. The blue lace agate is lovely, Fleur. The coral looks like it could be a moulded jelly dessert for the doll's house. Hi from a viewer in North Carolina!
That looks like Falcor, the Luck Dragon from 'The Neverending Story'! Also: An amusing factoid...In the movie 'A Christmas Story', the character "Ralphie" (this film occurs in '39-'40) says a bad word & his mother washes his mouth out with soap...Lifebouy Soap!!
Wow! I especially enjoyed this video! I almost chocked on some popcorn when you mentioned the Briggs and Stratton key! I worked there in the early 2000’s. Hello from Grand Rapids, Michigan!
Is your werewolf a gargoyle? Or a chupacabra? Life Buoy is a soap brand, (or was), in America. Oh, and Biff was the bully who always bullied Marty McFly in Back To The Future.
Great day at the beach ladies that blue agate is gorgeous .As Kate described it i thought wow it has some of the same effects as watching these videos they are calming and we appreciate nature more and they bring joy to our day.now i look forward to what your clumps reveal themselves to be when cleaned you both have a way of seeing value in the obscure and unusual most people would leave them and there history behind good luck on your next adventure Karl from eastern Canada
The figurine is a water buffalo. The horns are shown flat on the head. The water buffalo is very muscular as the body shows. Love your shows. Carole - Houston, Texas 39:53
What amazing finds! So much history, My late Grandad used to work for Marconi, he was part of the communications section I believe & helped design wireless devices. I wish I found out more from him about his time there.
Another great video with interesting finds. When I first saw the mystery creature it reminded me of the mock turtle from Alice in Wonderland. Thank you for bringing us another interesting, factual episode
My Grandfather was in Texas when one of the Marconi Towers was erected. I have a picture of him standing beside it. How cool. Ay chance you would sell it? It would be so cool to add it to the picture in my family tree. Of course, I would annotate who found it and where. Thanks for your videos.
Milwaukee!!! I'm from MKE!! I'm actually from Racine, which is a bit of a smaller city bordering MKE in Southeast Wisconsin. Racine is where your Horlicks Malted Milk bottles come from! I actually went to William Horlick High School ☺️. I'm currently living in Indiana however, just outside of Louisville Kentucky. Funny story: the other day I was walking into work & spotted a little something on the ground. I must be watching too many of your videos, bc I went to pick it up as it might be treasure! Upon finding that it was just a wrapper, I remembered that I'm in Indiana, nothing I find on the ground is going to be treasure lol The next day though, I was walking into work with my wife, & I actually found a tiny adorable yellow plastic "gem" on the ground in the same lot!! My wife called it "parking lot larking" 😂
Every time you pick up a nail I think, those would make a lovely Garden wrought iron fence all rickety and lovely. We have a stone like that here in Oregon called Holley Blue. ( edited to say I can see the lines in the agate in the roundup, love the blues they glow)

Thank you Kate and Fleur for another wonderful video full of wonderful and questionable finds and all the history that goes with them. I agree with someone that the "Were-wolf " looks like the Dragon from "the Neverending Story" Congrats on 26K
Absolutely agree thought of the neverending story the second I saw it.

.. looks tumbled and polished not naturally tumbled by the sea?
The little bisque animal seems almost medieval inspired in design to my eye. Maybe a manticore? A sort of man-lion beast, so not far off a werewolf! I love it, whatever creature it's suppose to be!
Sonny sounded like he was tap dancing!🤣🤣👏🎂👍🇦🇺
I'm going to say you found a gargoyle. Whatever he turns out to be I love the expression on his face.
Oh, my, gosh, how I laughed when Kate said, " I'm gonna guess this was an American person that came over with their key and their clean hands."
The best video my friend ,, Very inspiring. Goodluck,,Greetings from a traditional Indonesian gold miner 🇮🇩⛏️🌸💪👍👍
It looks like The Mock Turtle from Alice in Wonderland - a turtle with a calf's head.
I wonder if your wolf, dog, hyena is a gargoyle. Romantic idea here; a small token of a visit to a cathedral perhaps in France?
‘One and All’ is the Cornish motto and also of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. The DCLI had their own dinner services so maybe the pottery is from that. Wonderful channel, always, for us - ‘One and All!’.
Briggs & Stratton also makes engines...especially found in lawn mowers.
That shoe clip thing looks like it would make a standing mirror that would sit on a dressing table.

The finds and their history’s were wonderful to see and hear about, thank you ☺️
the dog with the way it is shaped and if the legs were one it makes me think it would go on the handle of a cane, just a thought
Where is Oscar haven't seen him in awhile. He's so cute always enjoy your videos

The end of a zip, with a metal or Milliput handle added, would make a good iron.
Your hair Kate is so gorgeous. And I'm glad you wore your knee pads😊😊😊❤
I think the weird animal looks like a water creature! The face puts me in mind of a prehistoric animal. Great finds!
It is a wolf in sheeps clothing.

Your mysterious metal at 5:40 would make a cute “boat” for a small doll in the garden 😊
At 15:48 my immediate thought wouldn't that make a perfect mirror for the bedroom.
Feel sorry for the animal that had to wear a collar like that 😳 love your videos you do make me smile. The agate is beautiful and your little wolfy thing is a bit creepy 😬 tfs
I haven't even started watching and I'm already buzzing about a longer video 😊 yay
