An Indonesian style fried rice made with short cut Nasi Goreng paste.
Enjoy this dish on its own or as part of a larger meal. Fried rice was originally created to avoid wasting leftover cooked rice. I believe its origins were from China and later adapted to other Asian countries. It's almost limitless what you can add to fried rice, but certain combination work better than others. This Indonesian style with fried egg, shrimps and chicken ticks all the boxes with a marriage of flavours that will leave you wanting more. By using a shortcut paste, it's a quick and easy way to have an incredible Asian restaurant quality meal at home.

Windhy Nila ma'am, i do not want to bother you, but i was looking at making an indonesian recipe from recipe 30, and i read your post and you seem to know about nasi goreng sauce. What type of taste is it ? Sweet, sour, sweet & sour, tangy, spicy hot ? I honestly have never heard of that sauce. Is there any other tasting product you would compare it to ? I live in U.S., but i cook quite a bit, and i recently retired , so i have even more time to try out new recipes. Thank you for your time.

2 tbsp Sambal Oelek (chili paste)
      2tbsp Ketjap Manis
      2 tbsp fish sauce
      1 tbsp sweet soy
      1 tsp tomato paste
      1 garlic clove (grated)

I make Nasi Goreng frequently in the UK for over 30yrs. I used to buy a paste by Perancah. But since they started putting in palm oil, with it's exceptionally poor health reputation (Cancer Research UK), I make my own, with the addition of Bagoong a Sautéed Shrimp Paste in a jar, and it lasts years. Otherwise very similar. Thanks

I'm Indonesian. No you shouldn't use ginger. The basic nasi goreng spices are garlic shallot chilli salt. No ginger. And it must be crushed using mortar and pestle not by grating it. Sauteed rice : oil is heated and add egg, soy sauce (kecap manis) and the spieces, After the rice is sauteed, the topping is usually telor mata sapi (sunny side egg) and fried prawn crackers (krupuk udang), sometimes fancy restaurant add satay.
