I assume Adam ruins everything is aimed at ignorant teens/young people who only have surface knowledge of most issues. I don’t consider myself an extremely responsible person but I was able to build my credit up from basically zero to 700 from age 19-21 on a low salary. It’s not that hard to build credit at all and anyone who has credit should know that.

    • @supanerdreviews4056
      @supanerdreviews4056 3 года назад

Actually it’s very hard to build credit. The more often you check it the more likely it is to go down. And people with low income jobs need every penny they can save otherwise a surprise bill or expense they can’t pay for gets added onto their credit history which keeps their credit low. Part of what gets people better credit is being financially responsible. Which becomes harder to do when you’re so focused on not becoming homeless or starving you can’t pay for any other bills. One sure fire way to maintain good credit and improve your score is to pay off your bills on time which sounds easy enough but life has so many factors that people don’t account for every day it can be easier to slip up and fall further down than it is to pull yourself back up.
What Adam ruins everything does is teach people that there are far too many misconceptions in our day to day lives. There are myths and lies we’ve come to accept as truth and because of it nothing will change or improve because we’ve been stuck in our ways for too long and it’s becoming too late to really make that difference. Even if some of his facts are false or aren’t completely truthful that’s not the point of the show. He even admitted he got stuff wrong in an episode because his research staff is human and humans make mistakes all the time. The show is all about encouraging people to do their own research and pull back the veil on what we consider to be truth or reality. Because if we don’t we are doomed to make the same mistakes that were made decades prior. He might have gotten some information wrong from time to time but the point was to show that he was willing to do some digging aside from just listening to what’s been told to us throughout our lives

Checking your credit score DOES NOT affect your credit negatively at all, in fact it's good to check your credit and can help maintain it if things were to go wrong. What is true is that HARD credit checks can lower your score, which you are not supposed to a lot, while SOFT credit checks (ones you do yourself) are completely fine.

@@adamdavis1648 there’s the initial thought that Adam is just pushing leftist nonsense. He just bashes the skit as “big dumb dumb conservative idiots”. He claims he isn’t operating off of instinct but he isn’t really doing much else but trying to push a conservative mindset. He continually mentions chart after chart after chart but we are still 8th which 8 out of 24 is not bad but that still means 7 countries are better than we are which is exactly what right wing conservative die hards tend to ignore. And he misrepresented the idea of the complications of obtaining a credit card. It is easier to ruin your score than it is to improve it in the sense you have more opportunity to mess up. Checking your score will lower it in some instances. Etc etc. this guys nothing more than another conservative nutcase who don’t want to admit anyone not in the right can make sense. If you disagree with conservatives you are a left wing liberal who shouldn’t be taken seriously. He claims $400 isn’t a lot of money. And that they just die. My own parents cannot always afford their own house payments for a $400 emergency. My parents recently borrowed almost $700 from me because they couldn’t pay a house payment and a fix of my dads car. If neither me or my siblings had that money they would not have been able to pay that emergency. He claims to do the research but he doesn’t truly understand anything about the stats presented. My parents HAD backup choices but they still didn’t pay me back. It’s been 4 months and they still can’t afford to pay me back. I’m considered middle class or lower middle if my TWO parents with FULL TIME JOBS cannot afford to pay me back $700 while I’m part time and a student then it should be proof enough that there’s a problem. There are a lot of people who aren’t that lucky who do not have a crutch to stand on. And he mentions these government programs designed to help people but as long as you can prove to be searching for a job you can earn unemployment benefits which often then not pay more per week than the job that will ultimately end up being able to hire you. Some people don’t know how to gain access to these programs or have any idea where to go. I don’t even know where the nearest homeless shelter is and I see like 5-10 or more homeless people on the street every day. Sure you can work really hard to give yourself a good life but you have to work extra hard to escape the hole you dug for yourself.
I know I’ve said it a couple times but I will say it again this mans entire stance is that right wing America is fine as it is. There’s no serious problem that we can’t fix with the system we have and that any opinions who differ from him are hard left wing liberal nonsense that’s designed to destroy America. But you don’t have to look hard to find a serious issue which he clearly did not do. Even if we are 8th why are there 7 countries with better economic mobility? If we have so many government programs that are so perfectly designed to help people escape poverty then why is it still a problem? If poor people are able to sustainably buy in bulk then why do they still struggle to eat from one day to the next? Just because we have some of these solutions does not mean they actually work the way they’re supposed to because if they did this issue wouldn’t be discussed right now. I mean we have sensitivity training so that less racist cops show up (I do still fully support the police) yet there are still instances where innocent non white people are wrongly imprisoned or killed (not all the time but it’s still prevalent enough) so clearly something isn’t working. See what I mean?

The point of income mobility is that over time someone in low income jobs can move up the ladder to better support themselves and go from low class citizens to middle class and so on and so forth.
Here in America a full year of working in the service industry like McDonald’s or Starbucks is rewarded with at most a $0.50 raise. Or even no raise at all. Which people need to live more comfortable and stable lives. An entire year of putting up with assholes and unsatisfactory working conditions should have a higher reward than $0.50. With that kind of hourly raise I might as well spend it at a child’s lemonade stand they’ll be able to make better use of it than I could

I've been waiting for more people to call this douche out.
Also, my grandmother went from glorified deep rural south Great Depression Child slave school (I don't know if she even made it to high school) dropout who wore flour sacks sewn together as dresses and fought for her parents' leftovers of the food she and her 8 siblings had a major part in even making exist among those 8 siblings, 7 of which were boys, to a real estate tycoon. She literally created the street I grew up on from wilderness, and that's after she mostly retired when the real estate market went belly up in the 1980's. She just wanted a place where we could live next door and I'd grow up with limitless forests to explore, including a fully stocked private lake with a nice little stream flowing all the way through my forests and its own rich ecosystem. Before that, she owned a significant portion of my home county, a huge ranch with show and sport horses, as well as cows and chickens, several stores, homes constantly being renovated and sold, and a small town she basically built.
That's rags to riches if I've ever seen it... And in my time with her, I experienced what it was like being an acclaimed prodigy doused in media attention, shaking hands with local politicians, and, most importantly, receiving constant tutelage and sharpening of my mind through her, though it seemed like we were just delving into my naturally geeky interests of biology, geology and anthropology at the time. Oh, and she basically bought off my private school so I won everything all of the time and received special attention in the classroom, making sure from preschool I got the best education.
Then, when she died, I experienced how wealth can evaporate with just one generation, as my mother and brother not only squandered their $100,000.00 in land, but, since I was only 13 when she died, they managed to manipulate me after years of grooming into signing off on them "borrowing" from my trust fund, buying from me only never to pay up and teaming up together to make sure I'd be on the streets if I did anything legally against them, then squandering my $100,000.00 too. Wealth isn't just "Your ancestor was rich, so you're rich!" It's earned. That's why I enrolled for premed biochemistry and worked my ass off with my sights on a M.D. despite basically being robbed because I was a naive kid. Then a life shattering disease dropped on my head and now I'm building several interweaving entrepreneurial endeavors I can helm from home, with a pretty solid plan to make it work, and donate a large portion to charity because 1.) the nature of the charity, animal rescue, has been a passion of mine since I first learned what kill shelters are like and 2.) Taxes ain't nothin' but hoes and tricks

1 yes i watched his video you muppet and no i'm not describing his argument, I'm pointing out its stupidity.
2 and try to get this through your thick skull, extending credit to people living in poverty is not a good thing. You look at any country you like, Australia, Germany, France, UK, Etc, etc. Wherever rules on lending were relaxed, particularly in terms of credit cards It was a disaster. restricting lines of credit to those who can demonstrate they can pay it back is not "stacking the deck" it is protecting consumers from things like predatory lending.
Household debt is the second highest indicator of a families ability to breakout of a cycle of intergenerational poverty. Those with little to no debt are more likely to break the cycle then those with more debt.
Trying to counter strawman sam's absolutely moronic advise to "just get a credit card" by saying that debt is hard to get is even dumber then the strawman put up. You have to be a completely out of touch buffoon to think tougher lending rules are a bad thing, which is what adam paints them as. Strict lending rules are an indication of a healthy society which looks out for the poor, the complete opposite of the point adam is trying to make.
In fact not only is it stupid, that is an extreme libertarian argument they want such restrictions lifted. They believe society would be better off if financial institutions could lend to whoever they want at any rate they can convince the consumer to sign on for. Adam literally switched to making right wing arguments in the middle of his anti american, anti capitalist video.

love how when he shows america ranks 16th in upwards mobility he accidentally reveals why that is by showing pakistan is 2 ranks above america. every one in america is rich compared to places like pakistan so it makes sense that we would rank lower than them in upwards mobility since unlike pakistan our entire country is not at rock bottom. we actually have alot of millionaires, billionaires, and upper middle class people compared to any other countries. and as time goes on we continue seeing more and more of them. for example 20 years ago nobody knew who mark zuckaberg, elon musk, or jef bezos were yet now they are three of the richest people on the planet because they created a product in america that made them billions of dollars. and for reference that is exactly what the american dream is. its the dream that you have nothing and either invent something or start a business and end up becoming rich. and immigrants are starting new businesses way more than none immigrants which shows that atleast in that regard the american dream is alive and well. what we have to work on is replicating that for the none immigrants who have been left behind in terms of policy.

They’re so focused on the daily necessities so they can continue to work and live in their homes. Most of their money goes towards basic necessities which leaves little to no wiggle room for unforeseen circumstances
Like when covid first hit and lockdown was initiated I was unofficially laid off from work. Since I was technically still employed there I couldn’t apply for unemployment benefits and could barely afford my rent without the help of my parents. Since I had no money coming in and most places shut down I was trapped in a dangerous situation until I could sublet my apartment and move home. In regards to the Chart (Figure 1) referenced in 5:00, it was talking about intergenerational income. In other words, if your father is rich/earning more than average, so will you/the son later in life. In other words, the income you grow up with is largely going to stay the same, so rags-to-riches is much harder to come by in America. And yes, like any good study, it explores the limitations of the evidence but inference can still be drawn --Rags-to-Riches stories arent nearly as common in America as people think, and that was Adam's point. Such stories of overcoming one's poor beginnings into affluence are far more common in many other countries.

Bruh what? The study itself agrees with Adam in its findings. "When compared to 24 middle-income and high-income countries, the U.S. ranks 16th in the amount of intergenerational earnings mobility." Also, the study acknowledges Figure 1's current irrelevance (in policy making), but the study still states that the US is 16th in inter-generational earnings mobility, because it factors in some more recent studies to come to this conclusion.
Directly quoting a study's conclusive findings isn't want qualifies as cherry-picking. An example of cherry picking would be when one doesn't read the whole study and interprets graphs out of context. This is what you're doing.

The only reason we bothered with space travel is because the Russians were also trying to further their space travel and we said no I wanna do it first.
Just because a lot of what we did was adopted by other nations doesn’t mean you should be overly proud of it. You personally didn’t do anything to further the development of other countries.
