    In this article and video, Ethan from our own grow room walks you through why keeping up on cleanliness is important, and gives you some suggestions on how to stay safe.
    The number one benefit of a clean system is human health. If you don’t keep the environment clean, you’ll more than likely be harvesting produce that isn’t clean or healthy. It may even make your customers ill.
    The second benefit is the health of your plants. If you don’t keep your grow room clean, you’re opening up pathways for disease and fungal pathogens.
    The third reason that keeping things clean is so important is certifications and standards. Not only is it suggested, it is often required. Whether you are trying to be organically or otherwise certified, keep in mind that these usually have very detailed standards when it comes to sterilization and sanitation.
    So what's the difference, anyway?
    Sanitation is the general cleanliness of your grow room. This might include sweeping, removing dead plant material from the system, mopping up any spills or messes, cleaning out filters, scrubbing your IBC, and keeping your harvest and planting areas clean and well-prepped.
    Sterilization kills microbial life, including bacteria or fungi that could cause disease in your plants.

    • @dougmorrison9603

      @@thebiz5942 I don't know what he would say to you for that but I use isopropanol full strength but pretty much only for my scissors to be honest. If I'm doing full cleaning (rooms empty getting ready for the next show) then I pretty much use bleach for or on everything. If plants are in room then it's diluted peroxide. This is just the way I do mine so it's just my opinion. I 100% in 20 years have only got a fungus once and spider mites once. God's honest truth, mites was first one fungus was second one and both were in first year and a half. Then a nice older gentleman explained to me in detail why you must (a) keep everything clean and sterilized and (b) always pay attention to the room and the plants and be diligent for the (a) part. Then I asked ok but man that's a lot of work. He looked at me with that fk are you stupid look on his face and said ya it's sooooooo much more work then when you had to clean every leaf top bottom and the room. I looked him in the eye and said god I love older people and their wisdom. I guess since I am almost 60 now I'm that old guy. I love helping people and I like telling my stories to who likes to LISTEN to them. LOL I know I didn't exactly answer your root question but I believe there's a reason he didn't even bring up iso. I might be wrong though. Keep the iso for the tools my friend and save huge money. Ask yourself how much does a bottle of peroxide cost me, how much does a big jug of bleach cost me and then ask yourself how much is a 500 mL of 99% isopropanol? Pretty sure boat 10 times as much as the other two, save yourself some money and keep your room clean you won't have a problem if you do it diligently I promise you.

    Considering many hydro growers attempt to keep a healthy microbial life with products such as Orca and Mammoth P would you say it’s generally frowned upon to use any sort of ozone or peroxide in your nutrient solution? Maybe a flush through then emptying the reservoir entirely before refilling and renuteing?

    • @tangobayus

      I think root rot develops when your let your solution cover all the roots. The plants die from drowning and then the dead roots rot.

    To clarify from a food safety/medical standpoint and working with USDA/FDA stuff, some of the terminology is mixed up. What you described as sanitation is technical just referred to as “cleaning.” Your reference to “sterilization” is actually “sanitation.” Sterilization is a process of killing absolutely 100% of everything using extremes such as heat and pressure. Sterilization can’t be obtained using chemicals such as bleach. :)

    And UV light?... like the units used in aquariums?

    • @ZipGrowInc
      @ZipGrowInc  Год назад

      Hi Carlos, yes they are very similar. UV sterilization is used in a number of different applications, the main thing is to size your unit appropriately for the amount of flow moving through it as the water needs a certain amount of time in contact with the UV to kill bacteria/pathogens.

    • @ZipGrowInc
      @ZipGrowInc  2 года назад

      Steam and high pressure hot water work great, however they only disinfect to a certain level. We recommend pairing steam cleaning with a surface disinfectant like peroxide for the best cleaning.
