Conn bro, ain’t nobody spending $5000 on a First gen fold!
You gotta remember that my channel doesn’t get 1 million views per video, and I don’t have dbrand sponsoring every video I make, I gotta buy these phones MYSELF, along with all the headphones, speakers, laptops, and different tech that I review.
The phone is originally $2500, so me paying $5000 is stupid… If I’m gonna get scammed, I’d rather do it on a product that won’t be obsolete in a few months when the rest of the manufacturers start making them.

I assumed that was the reason that most of y'all weren't reviewing it. Even if you bought it and praised it, most of the U.S. viewers were not going to pay that price on an imported phone. Heard people say that customer service is a nightmare if you needed help after importing it. If that's the case, I understand why you all wouldn't be racing to promote it to your viewers. I'd love to have a device like this, but I'm in the U.S. So I'll stick with my Folds that can be replaced the next day if anything happens.

Fully understand your anger. Being in Chinese automotive business in Europe for Electric cars, which clearly have an edge over traditional car makers, I have to fight every day with customer prejudice and influence from established brands. They make everything possible to close customer eyes and don't let them see what is value for money and innovation. Personally I switched to Chinese foldables almost 2 years ago and never look back to so called established phone makers.

I watched MKBHD's video on the XT but apart from finding it weird that he had to go through his Dbrand contacts to source a unit for himself, his more subdued nature to the phone without getting too overly excited isn't unusual for him with non-US market phones. He did stated a number of times throughout the video how impressed he was with the thinness and how Huawei was able to put flagship level cameras in it but then questioned the battery life if all 3 displays were used and the 5,600mAh battery possibly not lasting all day.
From a US buyers perspective, I get why he is keeping his excitement to a minimum. I am however more surprised that Flossy hasn't showed one on his channel yet bein that he imports non-US market phones all the time.

I'm sure Flossy will get it when he can grab it for a more reasonable price than what these pirate resellers want. No1 rule for me : When a tech youtuber gets famous, i stop watching his reviews because i know how biased he will be according to his financial relations with each company. I also don't care about how beautiful a video review looks. I care about a) the honest opinion of the reviewer and b) his knowledge of the tech he reviews. For example you cannot be a serious/trusted mobile phone reviewer when you compare the best camera phones in the market and you don't include Chinese manufacturers and especially Vivo, which offers the best camera phones the last 3 years.

I don't think any of these RUclipsrs you mentioned would get your point even if they watch your video. Its very unfortunate however you are old enough to know this is how this World works. I do really appreciate your honesty along with all of your subscribers that's how you gain respect and fame. The other might been the same but as they grown out of their skin they probably forgot how to be honest. I do like the other tech reviewers just like you do and watch their content. But none of them influenced me to buy any tech. The other thought is you were rumbling on the Mate XT. Apart of Flossy, none of the Big names reviewed the Fold X 3 Pro. This again shows their interest and where they got the support from...

So for anyone reading this and thinking AD isn't making sense.. Here, let me break it down.
These tech youtubers know how influential they are, and they know people will ask questions as why they haven't really done a video about the tech on the Fold.
I mean, MKBHD started a new channel for the tech in cars, that's literally away from what he started with right? So he reviews interesting techs, so the mate should be a no brainer right?
They know they are influential, Linus started by saying how hard it is to get the device and how expensive it is, why? Cause he wants to set the tone and discourage those that wants to get it.
MKBHD had to review it, just so he'd say he reviewed it.
Literally, they didn't spend time on the thumbnail, it was a snapshot from the video, cause they don't care if it performs well on not.
That's not the point of the video, it's just for reference if anyone asks why they didn't review the tech in that amazing device.
Whether we want to agree or not, these guys are not being completely honest to those they influence.
But that doesn't change anything really, they are huge and very successful already.

Even if no money is involved, the phone is probably free. It's irritating to see people easily fall for these silly cartoonish stories people made up sometimes. Come on like these are millionaire RUclipsrs who already have all the connections they need to get almost anything from any company, and they couldn't get a phone that's already on the market for over a month and at a price comparable to an iPad Pro? They just NEEDED a million dollar partner to help them out to get the right contacts? They should've subscribed to Average Dad honestly 😂

Some of the issues are American politics when it involves China and therefore Chinese tech. The administration has stated a policy of 100 percent tariffs on Chinese EV's IF they allow them to be sold in the states at all. And I believe MKBHD mentioned a cellular band coverage concern in the US. I thought his review made the phone sound good but I can't use it to the full here in the US, too many work arounds required. If it wasn't for that I think you might see a more balanced review. Let's be honest Samsung is a Korean company, a country that has a good political relationship with the US. So maybe keep that in mind when you aren't calling them out while you proceed to call them out.

So, I really wanted to hear you out fully on your argument here because this is a pretty daring video to make. Honestly, I feel this is not your best. There are many things I think that needed to be taken into consideration that we're completely looked over in favor of a more conspiratorial "Apple/Google/Samsung have XYZ in their pocket." Now, I'm not about to white knight a bunch of people I don't know because there are plenty of criticisms to be had with many reviewers. However, let's talk about some of the most unfair criticisms you levy here. I really don't think it's fair to imply that people like MrWhosetheboss are being negligent or controlled to the point where videos about the thinnest tech are omitting the Mate XT. Ironically, I'd you lied by omitting the fact that the videos you mentioned were posted before the Mate XT was even announced. I also think there is a clear bias here in the way you're hearing things. When MKBHD mentioned the point of him having to "buy the phone with his own money," I didn't at all hear what you said. My interpretation of that is "We are in a position where we are handed review units for most of the devices we cover. This one was so exciting that, despite the fact that we did not receive a review unit, we purchased one anyway because we wanted to show it to you all." So when you tell people that these guys are all untrustworthy, kind of rubbing their names in the mud, only to then promote yourself and your store...not the best look. Flat out, I tend to like your content and hover around because I know you make some great points and cover things in a way many others don't. However, it's this kind of stuff that stops me from subscribing and being committed to it. What I'm not saying is "don't touch controversial topics." That's all well and good. However, I'd really prefer you leave your personal biases out. Reason being that there is a CORE to this video that still hits. There is a problem! Chinese foldables are largely better than their Western counterparts. Aside from software experience/compatibility and availability, they are hands down better than anything in the US. The thing is, your average phone-user isn't very likely to import a phone in from another country. Plus, buying foldable phones is already a niche to begin with. People who buy Chinese foldable phones outside of China are in a niche within a niche. That said, they're undeniable. So it really feels like, to me, the focus of this issue has its foundation in holding the foldable phone manufacturers in the West to a higher standard. If they choose not to compete and over us a substandard product when we know they can do better, it's on us to not provide the sales they want for them to see that they need to change.
Overall, I leave this long winded comment here because I genuinely do want to see you succeed. Let me tell you, though, this kind of content can only serve to bite you in the ass. Should you grow and should you start to see higher profits, review units, and the like, I think you will thoroughly regret these kinds of videos. Especially as your comments hold you up to the same scrutiny as you did the reviewers here.

Agreed. The whole video calling out other RUclipsrs succumbed to big brands yet promoting his store selling Chinese phone scream bias. No hard feelings. I do have a few Huawei devices. They also have o hesitation calling out any of the big manufacturers for any shortcomings. I don't think this video was necessary nor does it paint you in the best light. I think it's pretty obvious when content makers are clearly just glorified marketing pitches for products that don't offer consumers anything of value. Like, iJustine, as an example. MKBHD, MRWHOSTHEBOSS, FLOSSY, MR MOBILE, and many others do not fall into this category. You and anyone else obviously has a right to your own opinion, but I think it is kind of irresponsible and sounds kind of petty to discredit others based on your presumptions and interpretations of what they're saying and how they're saying it. Also the reason most American or US based RUclips personalities won’t get one is because they’re banned here which would make importing more difficult. I’m sure there are more variables and red tape issues that viewers won’t even know about. As for the whole RUclipsr influence thing I get that. As a consumer you should do your own research before making a purchase.
I do feel like Linus has gotten better at being more realistic for the average consumer in the last couple years. The reality is a very small number of people will actually buy a 3k phone that could break at any given time. Plus idk what warranty options would be if any at all.
For me personally if I can’t walk into a store and physically buy it in person I’m not interested. I’d like a foldable but the price of entry, durability, and warranty issues I’ve seen with them are the reason I still haven’t switched from a slab phone.
The reason why the majority of us content is Samsung, Apple and Google is because that’s the majority of the market here. If these Chinese companies would have a us based option you’d see more.
