i just bought mine at walmart and was about to air fry !!! you saved me from losing over $100.00 .. i packed it up and bringing it back tomorrow for a refund !! ty
My husband bought this air fryer grill for me today. The first thing I cooked was party wings. They were amazing. I used the air fryer function. I didn’t have any smoking issue at all. I was expecting to have this issue after watching your video, but it never happened. I just love this so appliance so much.
Thank you James. Was really considering this product but heard about the smoke issues from other reviews. Your honesty just cemented those concerns. Love the idea of grilling with this thing, but you're right, it is just an overpriced toaster oven. Still in the market for an air fryer so I'll have to do more research. Thanks again!
The oval shaped Power Air Fryer XL is very good. I only got the grille because we fell for the thought of being able to do multiple meals all at once but I am returning the grille after one use and buying the biggest air fryer the have.
James, thank you very much for your honest and straightforward review. I have been watching your videos and I have been seriously considering purchasing this item. You saved me from making a disappointing purchase. I hope that you are able to get your money back and without much hassle. Good luck and thank you again.
Doubt it this company TriStar is untouchable. I thought our new deal was MAGA, it's more like MADTRT do the right thing. ALWAYS CUTTING FREAKING CORNERS.
I just received my Power XL AIR FRYER GRILL yesterday. I wish that I had seen your video before I made this purchase. Thank you for your honesty. I’m returning it first thing Monday morning.
Hi James. I just came across one of your videos on your review of the Power XL Air Fryer Grill that I purchased online from their website about three months ago. I see and read from people on Facebook groups for this fryer/oven about smoke/grease issues. So far I have never had a smoking problem at all - none. I have air fried chicken wings, thighs and bacon with no smoke. Even did a rotisserie chicken and it came out really good. Again, no smoke. I've used the grill for chicken breasts with success. Other things air fried vegetables. Made pancakes on griddle. So far really pleased. I guess I've been lucky. On one of your videos I saw how you tested the temperature. I'm going to do that out of curiosity. Thank you for your reviews. I look forward to watching more.
James thanks for the honest review on this cooker. I have similar experience with the LaGosse air fryer oven, its a toaster oven with a grill grate. Does not get hot enough on any function to crisp anything. The Power XL air fryer is a hard pass for me.
I just bought one of these from Walmart a couple nights ago. Today, I looked up the reviews! Thank the Lord I did! it's going back in the morning and just get a basic toaster oven that will handle a frozen pizza like the last one did! Save a lot of money as well!
Traded in my oldie but goodie for this. I had trouble using it from the beginning. I thought it was just me & I just didn’t know what I was doing. I can vouch for everything James is saying!
I want to thank you for this video. I was going to buy this unit until I saw this video and reading everyone's review. You saved me a lot of money and maybe my house from burning up. Thanks
Thank you for the review, I was literally about to submit my PayPal info and ready to buy their deluxe option. Decided last minute to see if someone had a review on it, and yours came up. I’m glad I saw this first. Thank you again, I’m closing that tab and I’ll stick with my current toaster oven.
Glad it was helpful! Ya, don't buy this thing. i got a new cooker, just did an unboxing and my first cook is coming out tomorrow!! hope you check it out and tell me what you think!
Hi James. Thanks so much for your review. We actually received this "air fryer" as a gift. The first time we used it, was ok. The following times were beyond scary. It smoked up our apartment. I was so thankful that my husband was home to deal with the smoke detector. I won't be using it anymore for anything not even to toast. Sadly, it'll be tossed. Great and on point review!
Kind of wished I saw this review 4 days ago. I would've thought about the purchase a little more. I've used this thing 4 times. 1) air fry 2 leg quarters . . 2) air fry/grill 2 leg quarters . . 3) toasted 2 waffles . . 4) air fry/grill 2 turkey burgers 1) You are absolutely correct about the air frying quality. The skin didn't get crispy at all, even after 45 minutes of cooking. In fact, the skin was more like what you'd experience if you slow cooked leg quarters. And I went through the same trial and error with the smoke coming from the machine. When the juice hits the heating elements, it will smoke everywhere. I then tried to place the baking plate over the elements. All that did was make the baking plate red hot, produced more smoke, and ended up actually burning the baking plate. The solution to the smoking, was to still put the drip tray at the bottom, but also to position the chicken so that the juices didn't hit the heating elements at the bottom. Once I did that, the smoke was minimal. Having said that, outside of the skin being barely done, the leg quarters were outstanding. Very juicy and cooked to perfection. 2) When I grilled the leg quarters, this turned out to be a much better option than air frying. Grilling the leg quarters kept the smoke down far less. I did have to flip the chicken 1/2 way through. But after 40 minutes of cooking, I had 2 outstanding leg quarters both in taste and in actual look. 3) Did a simple test in toasting 2 waffles. As you said, it acted like a basic toaster oven and did it's job. Toasted waffles on top. Non toasted, but warmed all the way through to the bottom. 4) The frozen turkey burgers I did on the grill were absolutely outstanding. Most of the time, if I'm cooking turkey burgers on the Foreman grill, they get smushed by the grill, be a little on the hard side, and be dry as hell. On the Power XL, the turkey burgers retained what little juice it had and easily came out to be the most delicious home cooked turkey burgers I've ever made. So from a grilling standpoint, the combination of grilling and "air frying" the food gets 10/10. This machine will immediately replace the Foreman Grill. From an air frying standpoint, it gets 2/10. And I'm only giving it a 2 because the food was delicious. But in the original Power XL air fryer that I bought 3 years ago, the chicken skin would get crispy every time. Until I find a way to do that, I won't even bother using the stand alone air frying function. I'll simply use the grilling element. My concern will be what happens when the grilling element starts to wear out? Can I buy just a single grill element as a replacement? If I can't, I wonder how much use I'm going to get out of this thing. Hope to at least get a year of frequent use out of it.
Glad you’re warning folks about this. My elderly brother insisted he wanted one of these for xmas this year, I tried talking him out of it to no avail. It smoked out his house so badly he had to open the doors & windows in the dead of winter. I haven’t personally checked one out but it seems like that rear element should come on independent of the bottom element? My Viking gas grill uses a rear infrared element for the rotisserie function & it works like a dream.
Hello James I need some information. One sister decided to return the oven I sent her. The books that I paid S and H for two sisters didn't come in the box. It sat a week Heaven knows where in a Post Office, they played games over charging my credit card so she returned it as refused at the Fed Ex office on August 21st and they didn't put my money back. What was your experience with returning yours? A serious sounding lady Valerie Pomerantz called on the 17th at 6:12 pm and left a message.1-201-906-0662 or 1-973-575-5400 ext 110. I've since left several messages and haven't heard from her. I think business folks and even the PO are using Covid as a reason to mistreat consumers. I gave the entire matter to my bank to handle. Let me know if you got your money back. ANYONE ON HERE, PLEASE TALK TO ME. THANKS MUCH.
Ya. So honestly mine is just sitting in the garage because I had the same problem you’re having. I’m thinking about giving this cooker away for free to someone! Maybe they can make toast. Hahaha😝 hahaha.
He is using the unit wrong, he put the GRILL PLATE right above the heating elements. The grill plate is not meant collect grease drippings and must be completely removed when using the air fry basket. There is a drip tray under the heating elements that collects the dripping. Please read the cooking manual...
Hi James. Thanks for the update on this air fryer. I looked at it because my Power Air Fryer Pros handle melted off!!! I just got it for Christmas. I love the thing even better than the Elite. I looked at this one but I thought it was small and it looks more like a toaster oven. I kept my air fryer and used a knife to open it. Then my friend found some screws and put it back on. He said it’s not coming off now.😆. I am disappointed that the handle melted off but as an air fryer, I think it’s one of the best. Those Power people have to get their act together a little more🤔.
James, I am only sorry my wife hadn't told me she planned to purchase this appliance before doing so as I would have checked out videos like yours to get some opinions. Well I just used the grille for the first time to air fry some wings and everything you said is true. It smoked like a beast and was just impractical. Like you I used the baking pan as an additional drip pan because I just can't understand why they would want oils dripping onto the heating elements then I could only imagine the mess to clean the elements afterwards with the instructions warning you to be careful because they are very brittle. I also did not like that I couldn't stop the timer before it reached the end of the set time. Oh well, the food tasted ok but not as good as when done in the regular Power Air Fryer which we had returned but now I will be buying it again just a bigger one this time. The grill is being returned in the morning. Thanks for the video. Very accurate feedback.
I agree with you! My husband purchased this. We knew nothing about air fryers. We have smoke issues. My fries are dry, wings didn't crisp up and smoked us out of the house . I did rotisserie a chicken and it was good. Unfortunately, I think it is nothing more than an expensive toaster oven🙄
Wow thank you for sharing! It was given as a gift from my step-dad. But, when I started to use it, I was confused to why you would put a tray on the actual heating element. Thats so dangerous first of all. So, before I tried it out I wanted to see 9f someone tried it. And low and behold I see your video. Thank you so much. I'm not using this
Thanks for posting this review! My nephew and I each just bought these at Sam's becuase the price seemed really good. When I got home, my son asked me if I'd read any reviews. Of course, I thought, "uh-oh". I haven't unpacked it yet, so it's headed back to Sam's immediately. And, I texted my nephew not to bother with his, either. Thanks again for going to the trouble of testing it and posting your review!
Awesome review! I have the Farberware Air Fryer/Oven. The configuration inside is very similar to this one. I too noticed smoke in mine after air frying chicken wings. The grease from the wings would drip down onto the burners. Funny thing is, the smoke comes on the next cook. Not the chicken wing cook. I got into the habit of turning on my oven and letting any grease burn off (I don't have it smoking up my whole house). Sorry to hear this went so bad. Put it up on craigslist or Facebook Marketplace and get some of your money back!
I watched your finale video on this and mentioned you needed to put a try under the chicken. Now that I see you did try that. Seeing this video is enough for me to change my mind on this product. I Canceled order from Amazon. TY. Someone mention you need to put water in the drip try. Water and oil over electric elements is a big cause for grease fire and won't let chicken crisp. Face it people, James did a great review. This product is a waste of money bottom line if you like to cook with fresh meats! I have seen enough proof here.
Derek Kramer it is a toaster oven. All the reviews say it starts leaking grease after a few months. If u look, the drip pan doesn’t have lips around the edge to catch the grease! I’m just saying, it absolutely can’t do all the functions it claims.
Its actually a small convection oven... Just as all air fryers are.. Empty the grease tray solves the problem. Plus putting the big pan at the bottom on top of the elements when you air fry is no good
I don't know if you got a bad one or not, because I bought one and it works perfectly, I have used all of it's functions with no problems at all and very little smoke. I love mine!
James, i got this for Christmas and just cooked some chicken wings. After two batches we had to open up the house to get all the smoke out and it's freezing 🥶 outside. No wonder they didn't cook wings in the infomercial.....🤔
So glad I found this and your other “update” video. I signed up for a Sam’s Club membership and saw this (and the microwave version) there. I have an air fryer lid which works great, but I want something with bigger area (not volume) to do medium-size frozen pizzas. I read so many poor reviews that n the Sam’s Club app, with similar complaints. And then to see it before my eyes with your video, I’m glad I didn’t jump on buying it. I think there are two fatal flaws: one is that the heating elements are at the bottom. Even with the drip tray, some drippings will inevitably hit the elements. Double whammy is that an air fryer needs to circulate air to work properly; the drip tray over the elements hinders both the radiation and the circulation/ convection. My air fryer lid has the heating element above the food, and has the fan in the lid assembly. While I have not done anything sophisticated (almost entirely frozen foods 😅), it has been simple to use and flawless in execution. I haven’t even bothered cleaning it in 2 years 😅. (I do obviously clean the basket and pot😅) I haven’t looked at other air fryers yet but I hope they aren’t anything like this one.
Thanks for the review, I was considering buying it, you’ve saved me loads of trouble! Do you know if the trays from this one would work with the Power Air Fryer XL? The trays for this one seem easier to wash, and can be purchased separately.
Well, I had one from your power xl air fryer grill. I do not have any problem with it. I put some chickens on the crispy pan and put the baking pan under the crispy pan. I do not get smoke air at my apartment. You suppose to put a baking pan under the crispy pan.
Hi James. The book says when using the crisper tray to cook food with a higher moisture content use the baking pan below the tray to catch dripping juice. Remove the grate but leave the drip pan. Don’t know if this will help. Love all your recipes with this product so far.
Thanks so much!! i tried that and what happened is the pan got so hot that when grease hit it ...... major smoke. ugh. Thanks for the suggestion i really appreciate it!! have a great week!!
Cooking With James Wow. It worked for me. I put my baking pan in the 5 slot and my crisper in the 234 Slot. After 25 mins when i pit a little water in the pan and it was okay. It did cook and it did not smoke. I do agree the wings are not as good as other air fryers. But i tell you what, your pork chop and steak instructions are great!!!!! And taste great as well. .
Brenda Brazelton well I appreciate that. It sounds like your enjoying yours. I have not tried putting water in the the pan below. But I have to imagine that would cause a lot of steam. Boiling water. I will try it and see what happens! Thanks
Sorry for late response. honestly this is the only one that i have used that has the grilling function. this one is no good. I cant recommend any others because i have not tried them myself. sorry.
Thanks for the information. I came across your video when I was looking for alternative ways to clean the interior, especially the cover over the vent on the side. Just using soap and water, like they recommend doesn't cut it. Especially for someone with dexterity issue's. Mine smokes heavily as well. The only way I have found to handle it is to open the door to my garage, which isn't very far away. I have the power air fryer and love it, except for the size. It's easy to clean and does a great job of air frying. I was just looking to upgrade to a larger oven, so my husband wouldn't have to go out to the sunroom to cook pizza. We have the pizza oven out there. No room in the kitchen, and it's his man cave. I think I am going to return this one and find one that is equivalent in size, but easier to clean and doesn't smoke. I'm really glad I came across this video.
I don't know how much of a difference it would make, but I noticed you were using the griddle plate, not the baking pan, which goes in the next higher spot on the pizza rack.
Ya. I tried sooo many different things! I really wanted this to be a great cooker! I own 2 of their other products which are good. This one is not. Happy holidays!
The instructions say to first wash everything with hot mild soap. Dry then assemble. Turn on the unit without anything in it for a few minutes.Hopefully this will illuminate the smoke.
Almost bought this but after seeing this review decided not to. We have the other fryer and really like it but thanks to your review we saved a lot of time and money. Keep up the good work!
I cooked 12 wings @ 400 for 40 minutes just to get them crispy and so much smoke I too had to open the door for hours and all my heat/money went right out with it expensive as gas cost to heat my home! So thanks for confirming it’s not just me! This thing is so cheaply made I think all of them are that’s why so cheap and why they don’t cook in the infomercial!!! Now I get it! $125 later!!!
I saw 5his on TV and looked like something I could use. But now after your honest review I'm not touching this thing. Thank you for your review. I have subscribe to your channel and looking forward to what else you review. Again, thank you!
Hey James, I’ve been watching your reviews on this XL air fryer oven… I’m confused on some of your other videos you give great cooking reviews of certain cuisine’s… And then on this all out review of the oven itself you’re saying it’s not worth the money!? So what would you suggest as far as an air fryer with a griller/rotisserie?? Thanks bro!💯
Honestly i have only tried this product that has the grilling function and air fry capability. The 3 other videos i did the food turned out good. the steak, shrimp and pork chops. but thats all this thing can do is grill. if you try and air fry anything that will drop grease like chicken or bacon or anything it will smoke up your house. I'm not sure of another one that has a grilling function because i haven't used it. I can only give you advice on what i have used. The power air fryer pro 10 in 1 is really good you can check out my cooks on that but it does not grill. sorry bro.
Cooking With James What’s up brother James! Alrighty good deal, thank you for letting me know and reaching back out! If nothing else you save myself as well as others I’m sure, time and money from having to go through aggravation with this product. Thank you again all the best stay safe and blessed out there the world has went up and gone crazy🤣🤙🏾 ☝🏾🙏🏾💯%
Hey guys I think on the t.v commercial he baked the legs and they came out crispy. I wish I would of seen these videos before I ordered it. Was the only think u were having problems with was the air fry?
Some things I noticed from breaking out my Air Fryer Grill today. 1. You used the bake pan as the drip pan. That's why it smoked up so badly. 2. That basket seems more appropriate for cooked stuffed. I used a different pan for my wings and it came out crispy without all the smoke.
@@lstarrb which pan did you use to prevent from smoking?I did chicken thighs the other day and smoked up the house pretty bad. I do like the way it grills steak and chicken but food with higher fat or moisture, frustrating with so much smoke!
@@arrickdavis5123 I'd use the grill plate for thighs. I'm not saying it wont smoke but it shouldn't be too bad. You can't overcrowd the pan though because if it starts to create juices and drip onto the bottom it gets smoky.
Picked this up Sunday afternoon and cooked 5 wings in it last night after washing all the components as directed in the instructions. I also put the bake pan underneath the crisper basket to catch drippings. Drip tray was also on the bottom. Followed owner's manual word for word. I also used the wing recipe in the cookbook that came with it. Cut to the point - wings were not as crispy as when I bake them in the over, and my house was still filled with smoke when we went to bed last night. I had stepped outside for 12 minutes since the timer was set for 20 minutes. I couldn't believe the smoke when I came back in!! Ran over and unplugged the unit immediately. Chicken was not at a safe temp when I used my digital thermometer. Bake pan is totally permanently encrusted, crisper basket is sticky with burned residue, and the inside of the unit looks like it's been used for 35 years without ever being cleaned. I'm taking it back today, without scrubbing the inside. I should have check these reviews before falling for the Christmas (Black Friday) promo.
I just bought 3 of these for my kids for Christmas ..... I got 2 in yesterday waiting for the 3rd one to come in... I don't know what to do now that I have seen this video and your comments.....
Thank you James. I was going to buy this and went to check their reviews on their website...Great reviews...then went on the web and saw your video on the air fyer and saw it in real action, I agree not a Great Air Fyer...thx again for saving me some Money 😉 Ohh I just subscribed to you as well looking forward to more Honest Reviews 😊
Hey James, nice video but wish I had seen your reviews sooner. I bought the power xl and tried it today for the first time. I tried the fries and burger combo cooking and cooked them per instructions and the burgers burnt. Way too hot just like you mentioned on another video. The fries weren't bad though. Tried some chicken fingers and again burnt. Not gonna go with the hassle of returning it so going to try to cook at lower settings and hope that works. Thanks!
To be honest i can't give you a recomendation without using a cooker!! check out my new review on the foodi ninja i have a new cook coming out tomorrow!! Thanks so much!
I almost bought this until u said about the whole house smoking changed my mind. The informicial with Eric did not say anything about this. And why would they. Thanks James. Just saved $160.00
They have a drip pan that can sit well above the heating element. So why are you using a pan meant to absorb heat as one? I have not "fried" yet but i have no intention of frying meats in it, and have had no complaints.
I like this video because it shows you what not to do with this product. You can grill wings with this product while air frying your celery and carrots all at the same time.
It worked great for me,I love it!! His problem was that he had the drip trey underneath the heating element instead of on top and that's why he had smoke
i was just about to order this when i said let me check out some honest reviews. I had my first inexpensive basic air fryer that i payed $40 for and it worked great for about a year and died. I wanted invest a little more money into a new air fryer that held a bit more food so i was considering this one, well you just saved me $150 Thank you sir. Recommendations for a Decent sized Air fryer upgrade?
Unfortunately, I bought one of these and I have top agree with you. It smells like burning plastic, plus it is super cheap nd gets really hot on the outside. Easy to get burned! It also heats up the whole kitchen. So, which air fryer do you recommend?
I wish mine would heat up. I could cook fries and chicken strips for my kids real fast. Unfortunately my issue with the PowerXL Air Fryer Grill is that it won't heat up enough to cook food or toast bread. This was a gradually worsening problem that started just a few months after purchase.
Darn...i literally JUST got mine delivered today. U make me want to put back in the box and send it right back. Q. Did u clean all the oil off bottom plate before you put the foil on?🤔
Yes I did. i tried all kinds of variations even adding water which helped a little bit but the you get a bunch of steam. this cooker is not what it claims to be. sorry. just my honest opinion!
I just returned mine now. I tried frying crispy 1lb pork belly. Took me 3.5 hours to cook the slab. Other fryers saw it youtube 30-45min so i followed same way unfortunetly still raw.
Okay, so I baked 15 wings in the air fryer tray on the top part. I add 2 potatoes on the bake tray drizzle with olive oil. I lined the bake tray and the "catcher tray" at the very bottom with foil paper. Used it on the bake setting for 40 mins and it was EXCELLENT!! Only thing, the chicken needed more time to cook(maybe because of the setting). I then set it for 20 mins and removed the potatoes. My husband came with his nosey self and spilled some of the oils on the "catcher tray" and THE SMOKE BEGAN😂! It wasn't too bad though. I used the stove fan and it was ok. Cooked fine.
@@inQueH thank you, my sisters finally arrive after sitting fifteen minutes away in a Beltsville fed ex, no explanation, it was missing both books and after she and her husband reading the reviews, she's returning it. Soooo???
Hey James I just ordered me the XXL I was wondering if maybe you could of lowered the tray alittle on the outside the line for air fry was i believe alittle lower. I was also wondering if u think u could put the aluminum foil on the of the tray and out the chicken on top instead of putting the aluminum on the bottom and then u maybe able to eliminate the last tray u had to catch anything that drops. Im really enjoying your videos just a couple of ideas I had that I may try.. Keep up the good work cant wait to see whats next..
Love the comments. but to be honest These machines or cookers are supposed to make it easier. All my other air fryers are soooo low maintenance and this one is just a bad cooker, sorry.
Ya. I made that video first thinking this cooker was good. It does cook a good steak but can’t do anything else. This cooker sucks. Thnx and have a great weekend!
The Cuisinart airfryer with grill I like better it has a real cast iron grill plate, and everything is so nice. The Cuisinart has a much larger oven yet small in space .The Cuisinart has 1800 watt oven power .airfryer, cooks very quickly. It does convection, and it has a light . I ❤the Cuisinart airfryer and grill.
I got mine and it doesn’t smoke at all. You used the wrong thing for a drip tray. They have a silver tray that comes with it and it says drip tray only. Also you did you spray your chicken with some type of oil. That may have been another reason why it smoked.
I have one too it really is not that bad. I saw how much it smoked too so what I did was but one of those aluminum disposable trays and put some water so fat drips into the water. I have made pizza, cake, ribes, garlic bread. For extra toast on meat on top I use boiler option for extra crisp. I will continue to experiment but I don't think I will send it back if I don't like it because I did that once already and because I bought directly from the website you pay for shipping and you don't get full refund either (pretty much your paying for labor for re-receiving their product back). I ask if the can give something back and was denied.
Cooking With James i just return mine today. It was an epic failure. I fried crispy belly slab ,a pounder, took me 3.5 hours to cook it crispy. Sad part, it filled the house with smoke took 2days before aroma of crispy pork gone. Our house is small and ac was on. Ialso tried frying milkfisn and took me2.5hrs so ended up cooking it on a pan. So what can you suggest ? We love cooking lechon kawali will the pro be a different experience? Thanks buddy.
Thanks for your review. I went through the strenuous process of ordering this machine back in May. When it arrived it was too large or my kitchen. Plus I wasn't found of the fact that all of the settings were on a turn knobbs! I used it once and packed it up to send back because of the 90 money back warranty. When I went to call customer service (which I did several times), it was ALWAYS an hour to 2 long wait or id get a busy signal. The few times I got someone they told me I'd have to pay for return shipping and find my own way of doing so. (Which means $25). When I requested a supervisor or a cooperate number the re p became irate and refused. I called back and actually got the same person, still being a narcissistic pain in the ass. I called back on day 3 and got a female rep who apparently agree to make an exception and send me a return label 🏷. She told me it'll come 12 mins after the call was disconnected. It never arrived into my email. I finally got onto contact with the company on Facebook and they agreed to send me a return label. Worse company to do business with (Tri-Star)!
@@CookinWithJames No problem. Just wish I would have found your video before purchasing this junk!! I couldn't find any review videos for this back in May when I was about to purchase it. All I saw was their company trying to advertise it and few SHORT INSTRUCTION VIDEOS!
James I finally got mine and used it to cook some wings. Very little smoke, cooked 8 wings. If I had cooked 25 wings I would have expected more smoke but I don't think it was designed to cook that many at one time. I didn't use parchment paper either. BTW this is the second oven, I originally got one from Kohls but it wasn't the model I wanted. Returned it and ordered the one that has all the bells and whistles. Needless to say, I am pleased with this machine/air fryer.
Question: I noticed you had the drip pan on the very bottom closest to the element. What would happen if the drip pan was up one row higher? I have a new power XL and have not even turned it on yet.
Kenneth Metcalf it’s what came came with the cooker. Trust me. I wanted this to be the next big thing but I’ve moved on to another cooker that is better. Thanks
You covered the heating elements, maybe check the manual and see if that tray is only to be used for baking and not in there when you are trying to air fry?
i just bought mine at walmart and was about to air fry !!! you saved me from losing over $100.00 .. i packed it up and bringing it back tomorrow for a refund !! ty

Glad I could help! Glad I could help. I wish i could say this thing was awesome but......ugh. not!! Much appreciated!
Thanks Carolyn! I’m glad yours is working for you. Much appreciated!
James thanks for the honest review on this cooker. I have similar experience with the LaGosse air fryer oven, its a toaster oven with a grill grate. Does not get hot enough on any function to crisp anything. The Power XL air fryer is a hard pass for me.
Thanks so much guy! Ya i was really dissapointed when i started using it. Have a great week!
I just bought one of these from Walmart a couple nights ago. Today, I looked up the reviews! Thank the Lord I did! it's going back in the morning and just get a basic toaster oven that will handle a frozen pizza like the last one did! Save a lot of money as well!
Glad I could help!
Thanks
Hahaha😝. It might not burn up your house but it will smoke it up. Lol
Thank you for the review, I was literally about to submit my PayPal info and ready to buy their deluxe option. Decided last minute to see if someone had a review on it, and yours came up. I’m glad I saw this first. Thank you again, I’m closing that tab and I’ll stick with my current toaster oven.
Your welcome. Happy holidays!
Thank you so much for this honest review! I'm watching the infomercial now and almost ordered. Again I thank you.
Your welcome. I was hoping it would be a good cooker. :( happy new year. Keep cooking! :)
Kind of wished I saw this review 4 days ago. I would've thought about the purchase a little more. I've used this thing 4 times. 1) air fry 2 leg quarters . . 2) air fry/grill 2 leg quarters . . 3) toasted 2 waffles . . 4) air fry/grill 2 turkey burgers
1) You are absolutely correct about the air frying quality.
Thanks for the awesome comment Finisher. You should do reviews! Great job for sure! Much appreciated! Hope you had a great Christmas!
I’m so glad I watched your videos before I bought this!!! Thank you!!
Glad I could help! have a great weekend!
Thank you for your honesty, you just saved me ordering it by paying attention to their infomercial. Thank you!
No problem! Can’t spend your hard earned money on junk!
Thanks so much for the awesome comment! The grill u have sounds like a good one! Happy new year!
Wow true honest review... awesome...i will keep in mind NOT to get this toaster oven 8)
Just8Ate hahaha😝. Thanks so much! Have a great week! :)
Hello James I need some information. One sister decided to return the oven I sent her. The books that I paid
S and H for two sisters didn't come in the box. It sat a week Heaven knows where in a Post Office, they played games over charging my credit card so she returned it as refused at the Fed Ex office on August 21st and they didn't put my money back. What was your experience with returning yours? A serious sounding lady Valerie Pomerantz called on the 17th at 6:12 pm and left a message.1-201-906-0662 or 1-973-575-5400
ext 110.
@@CookinWithJames that's too funny. My bank is working on it. I'll have to tell them she returned it.
Stephanie's Kitchen hahaha😝. You are so right. Just make a good product. You are awesome Stephanie! Thanks so much!
James,
I am only sorry my wife hadn't told me she planned to purchase this appliance before doing so as I would have checked out videos like yours to get some opinions.
Thanks so much. Ya I don’t understand this design it’s terrible! I really appreciate it! Have a great week!
Wish i would've watched this before i purchased. Going back to Kohl's to return now! Thank you!
You got it!! get the ninja foodi xl. unless you want to cook for a lot of people. What did you get?
Wow thank you for sharing! It was given as a gift from my step-dad. But, when I started to use it, I was confused to why you would put a tray on the actual heating element. Thats so dangerous first of all. So, before I tried it out I wanted to see 9f someone tried it. And low and behold I see your video. Thank you so much. I'm not using this
You got it Sharon! Thanks for watching!
LOL! I just have to say first of all i appreciate you checkin out the vid! Second, ya this is not a good cooker. much appreciated!!
I sure will!! Thanks bro!
Thanks so much you saved me a lot of money! I appreciate you taking the hit on buying this and sharing with us.
Glad I could help! This is a crappy cooker. Thanks for watching much appreciated!
Thanks so much DJ! Ya I really wanted this to be a good cooker! They just made a junker! Happy new year!
This thing has been nothing but good for us!!
How long have you had it?
We've had it a few weeks now
Derek Kramer it is a toaster oven.
Plus putting the big pan at the bottom on top of the elements when you air fry is no good
We've rotisseried chickens, grilled on the bottom, baked little pizzas in it, and my kids air fry just about everything that could go in the microwave
I don't know if you got a bad one or not, because I bought one and it works perfectly, I have used all of it's functions with no problems at all and very little smoke. I love mine!
Glad u like yours David! Happy holidays!
James, i got this for Christmas and just cooked some chicken wings. After two batches we had to open up the house to get all the smoke out and it's freezing 🥶 outside. No wonder they didn't cook wings in the infomercial.....🤔
You are 100, me too!
Hahaha😝. I know right! Happy holidays!
(I do obviously clean the basket and pot😅)
I haven’t looked at other air fryers yet but I hope they aren’t anything like this one.
Ya this was a huge disappointment. I have other air fryers on my channel that are good
Thanks for the review, I was considering buying it, you’ve saved me loads of trouble!
Do you know if the trays from this one would work with the Power Air Fryer XL? The trays for this one seem easier to wash, and can be purchased separately.
Thanks. They will not work. Too big
Cooking With James Thanks for letting me know!
Well, I had one from your power xl air fryer grill. I do not have any problem with it. I put some chickens on the crispy pan and put the baking pan under the crispy pan. I do not get smoke air at my apartment. You suppose to put a baking pan under the crispy pan.
I'm so glad I always read reviews before buying TV things! I wanted it, but no way now! Thank you!
You got it. Plz share this video and tell people to check it out!
Thanks
Hey, James great review looking to get to a Air Fyer Grill. What one would you recommend in the grill ones. Thank you and have a great day.
Sorry for late response. honestly this is the only one that i have used that has the grilling function. this one is no good. I cant recommend any others because i have not tried them myself. sorry.
Nuwave Bravo Xl is a great one! I use mine for everything.
Great and honest review James!
This will save a lot of people a lot of aggravation and wasted money😎👍
You are awesome david! Thanks so much brother!
LOL. opening the garage, thats funny! Ya i was hoping it was a good cooker but its just not!! thanks so much!!
Hi, have you tried placing the drip pan over the heating elements, where you place the grill plate? Hope this helps....
Yes I have. and the heating elements get so hot it still smokes. thanks for tip!!
Hey bud,try putting the drip tray above the heating elements on the bottom and there will be no smoke...I just bought 1
Check my other review. Thanks so much!
My mother just bought one from sams because it was on sale. Will be returning it . Thank you for the review
No problem! Happy new year!
Thanks so much. I really appreciate it! Happy holidays!
Had this in my cart and decided to watch a video. So glad I watched your video. Thanks
Thanks for watching! Let people know this is junk! Have a great weekend!
James! good job on being honest mon ami...Bravo!
Youre so sweet ! Thanks so much. Hugs!
Ya. I know it sucks spending your money on something that don’t work. Ugh. Hope you had a great Christmas!
I saw 5his on TV and looked like something I could use. But now after your honest review I'm not touching this thing. Thank you for your review. I have subscribe to your channel and looking forward to what else you review. Again, thank you!
Glad I could help. I got some more cookers i will review!! Thanks so much have a great week!
Exactly im confused is it worth buying or not because he has 1 video saying not to buy but another where he's enjoying a steak, smh
Chino Sabu Yeahhhhh...!?😬🤦🏾♂️
I still don’t know whether to buy or not🤷🏾♂️
Hey guys I think on the t.v commercial he baked the legs and they came out crispy.
I’ve tried ever! I don’t like it! Happy holidays!
@@CookinWithJames lol fair enough
Ya it sucks
I just bought 3 of these for my kids for Christmas ..... I got 2 in yesterday waiting for the 3rd one to come in... I don't know what to do now that I have seen this video and your comments.....
Sorry. There are a couple people that left comments that like it. But its not for me for sure
I wish I had seen this before I purchased one. Everything you said is spot on.
Ya and people say I’m crazy. hahaha😝. Well only a few. Happy new year!
Thank you James. I was going to buy this and went to check their reviews on their website...Great reviews...then went on the web and saw your video on the air fyer and saw it in real action, I agree not a Great Air Fyer...thx again for saving me some Money 😉
Ohh I just subscribed to you as well looking forward to more Honest Reviews 😊
Hi Cynthia! Thanks so much for watching! Happy new year!
Thank you for doing this video; love your honest reviews 👍🏼
I really appreciate your response! Just my opinion and review. :)
Thanks!
You got it Wilson! Hope it works. Happy holidays!
Thanks for saving me money and headaches! What's the best "big" non digital air fryer we can buy with 3 levels for racks ?
To be honest i can't give you a recomendation without using a cooker!! check out my new review on the foodi ninja i have a new cook coming out tomorrow!! Thanks so much!
I almost bought this until u said about the whole house smoking changed my mind. The informicial with Eric did not say anything about this. And why would they. Thanks James. Just saved $160.00
Your welcome! Ya it’s not worth the money! ThNks and have a great week!
They have a drip pan that can sit well above the heating element. So why are you using a pan meant to absorb heat as one? I have not "fried" yet but i have no intention of frying meats in it, and have had no complaints.
Thanks James you just saved me $150 bucks
I like this video because it shows you what not to do with this product. You can grill wings with this product while air frying your celery and carrots all at the same time.
Glad it works for you. Have a great week
Thank you! Was lulled by the infomercial. Nearly bought it!
Well that’s my review I’m sure you have seen plenty on this cooker!. Thanks so much!
Good video,im gonna try it and if I don't like it then it's going back to walmart...thnx dude
You got it! Good luck!
How was it
It worked great for me,I love it!! His problem was that he had the drip trey underneath the heating element instead of on top and that's why he had smoke
Check my other review where i did
My other review i did. Its junk
I greatly appreciate your honesty!
You got it! Happy holidays!
I almost purchased this so glad I decided to look at your review first.
You got it! Happy holidays!
Oh crap! Ok! I just bought it! Shoot! Well thank God I bought it on Amazons prime with free returns.
:) thank goodness for amazon!!
Does it broil? Are there heating coils on the inside top, above the racks?
It does broil yes. Happy new year!
i was just about to order this when i said let me check out some honest reviews.
Thanks! I would recommend the power air fryer pro. check out some of my vids with that. its awesome. Much appreciated!
@@CookinWithJames I sure will thank you.
WOW, thank you so much for the review. You just saved me money and a stressful headache... I just subscribed.
Thanks so much!
That's I lie, I have a power XL air fryer and grill and it works great and grill amazing.
Im glad it works great for you!!
we have two one at each house and love them, and does not smoke,
Unfortunately, I bought one of these and I have top agree with you. It smells like burning plastic, plus it is super cheap nd gets really hot on the outside. Easy to get burned! It also heats up the whole kitchen. So, which air fryer do you recommend?
Ya agreed. The ninja foodi smart xl grill for sure!
Thanks James....I am waiting for mine to get here, and I am returning it before I open the box....
Hahaha😝. Sounds about right!
Thanks for the Video. I almost bought this POC and you saved me.
Your welcome! Thanks for watching!
I wish mine would heat up. I could cook fries and chicken strips for my kids real fast. Unfortunately my issue with the PowerXL Air Fryer Grill is that it won't heat up enough to cook food or toast bread. This was a gradually worsening problem that started just a few months after purchase.
Ya. This thing has so many issues
Please let me know if you have better luck. Thanks
Soooo???
Yes you are right. Gave mine away
Thank you James for this information
You got it. Thnx so much :)
Perhaps you should have tried using the aluminum baking tray underneath the crisping basket instead?
I have. Check my other review!
I want to know if the power xl air fryer grill worth buying you have a video where you made a steak with the same product now im confused
Ya. I made that video first thinking this cooker was good. It does cook a good steak but can’t do anything else. This cooker sucks. Thnx and have a great weekend!
Awesome review! Was fixing to purchase.
You got it! Thanks so much for watching! Happy holidays!
@@CookinWithJames Happy Holidays
I'm interested in buying an air fryer. What fryer would recommend?.liked your video
Ninja foodi smart xl grill
James, the directions say to turn the timer past 20 minutes. Then turn back to your desired time.
Sounds good
Thank you for sharing. I was looking to purchase this "thing," but after seeing your review, I will be looking at something else.
Your welcome. Thanks for watching. Are you looking for air fryer?
@@CookinWithJames I am. I want one that is also a toaster oven for saving space. Any suggestions?
Im not to sure about one that is also a toaster oven. Sorry
Well, I was down to either this one or the Cuisinart TOA-60. This video helps allot.. Thank you.
Your welcome. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the great honest review. Just saved us some $$$.
You got it!
Thanks for the warning. I watched your give it away 1st and was shocked.
No worries!
Glad u like yours. It’s not for me
I love my New power xl air fryer/air grill except alot of smoke any suggestion how not to smoke so much I live in apt so it's kinda bad
How long have u had it?
I have one too it really is not that bad. I saw how much it smoked too so what I did was but one of those aluminum disposable trays and put some water so fat drips into the water. I have made pizza, cake, ribes, garlic bread. For extra toast on meat on top I use boiler option for extra crisp. I will continue to experiment but I don't think I will send it back if I don't like it because I did that once already and because I bought directly from the website you pay for shipping and you don't get full refund either (pretty much your paying for labor for re-receiving their product back). I ask if the can give something back and was denied.
So yours does crisp?
Thanks for tip, I was going to purchase one. no way now.
Good for you. You would be like... ugh... this thing sucks. Lol. Thanks for watching! Have a great week!
Sorry for that crappy experience. The pro 10 in 1 i have is awesome!
Its not so much a baker but you can make dang near anything in it. Its an air fryer
Thanks James, you saved me from wasting my money.
You got it. Happy new year!
Thank you I was getting ready to order!
You’re welcome!
Thank you very much for your input. You just saved me some $$
Thanks for your review.
Sorry u had to experience that. But ya same thing here i had to pay to send it back so its just sitting in the garage. Ugh. Thnx for watching!
@@CookinWithJames No problem. Just wish I would have found your video before purchasing this junk!! I couldn't find any review videos for this back in May when I was about to purchase it. All I saw was their company trying to advertise it and few SHORT INSTRUCTION VIDEOS!
Ya. A junker lol. I have a couple more reviews on my channel and a new cooker. You should check those out. Have a great weekend!
@@CookinWithJames Thanks. I shipped it off back to them today via FedEx! Have a great weekend as well🤝🏼
James I finally got mine and used it to cook some wings.
That’s awesome Scott! Thanks so much for your response!
Question: I noticed you had the drip pan on the very bottom closest to the element. What would happen if the drip pan was up one row higher? I have a new power XL and have not even turned it on yet.
That takes capacity away and. I tried that as well. I really wanted this machine to work good. I’ve tried everything!
@@CookinWithJames Was that the correct drip pan or a Crisper Tray, or Griddle pan???
Kenneth Metcalf it’s what came came with the cooker. Trust me. I wanted this to be the next big thing but I’ve moved on to another cooker that is better. Thanks
You covered the heating elements, maybe check the manual and see if that tray is only to be used for baking and not in there when you are trying to air fry?
Oh believe me i looked. Its just toaster oven. :( . I tried everything
@@CookinWithJames I wanted to believe, lol
Lol. Me to. Cant believe this. Haha. Well i will buy the next product and try it out. Hope it goes better :)
It comes with a drip pan supposedly, so I don't know what to think now?
We also purchased this air fryer/ grill. The grill smoked and the cover on the underside of the grill pan chipped off. Took it back for refund!
Good choice
