- We recently did a test of this Ultrasonic Rodent Repeller. It seemed to work well at repelling the red squirrel from our birdfeeder. (Check out our previous video to see that test.) So, based on that, we installed it under the hood of our car, where we had previously experienced mouse chewed wires. Unfortunately, less than two months later, a mouse has again chewed a wire ON THE SAME SENSOR!! So, this device failed to protect our car from mouse damage. Your results may vary, but it didn't work for us.
The next thing I'm going to try are some mint scented pellets that I bought from Amazon. Check out the video for details.
What a bummer, and such a pain to keep dealing with! I hope the pellets work!
So do I!
Field mice like get in our garage (where we keep our vehicles) and they have figured out how to LICK the peanut butter off the old fashioned snap traps without setting them off🤨. We have found that the tip traps with peanut butter smeared at the back works really well. We put those out in the garage, catching several, until there's none in the traps anymore. Have you tried traps near your vehicles? Give them peanut butter instead of wires until you trap them.😎
Yes, we've trapped dozens in the old style spring traps in and around the cars. I polish the triggers. I've never tried the tip traps. 5 gallon buckets with a few sunflower seeds in the bottom have caught several in a night. We just seem to have a never-ending population coming in from the surrounding woods and fields.
I have tried concentrated mint oil, fabric softener sheets, none work, I had looked up what brands of laundry products to use but it was of no advantage. THe thing I found that works is the zip up car covers, they are a poly tarp with a zipper. Not something that is handy for a daily driver but for something stored or used infrequent they would be an option.
Interesting!
I know your frustration, I started using the sticky traps in the engine bay where the heat won’t affect them. Caught 3 of the little f@:#%rs.
Yeah, those little rats are getting on my nerves. Thanks for the tip about the sticky traps.
How have the pellets been working so far? Have you turned the tide in the Mouse War?
I have not had any more mouse damage to the vehicles since switching over to the scent based deterrents. I actually used up all of the original box of pellets and have been replenishing the bags with a combination of normal moth balls and small chunks of particle board that I soaked in peppermint oil. That seems to be doing the trick. I freshen up the pouches about every 6 weeks.
@@thePFOchannel that's good to hear, thank you for your prompt reply and great content!
Thanks for watching!
You want to know why they chew that stuff . It's because the wiring insulation an coverings are vegetable based . Thay can smell it an if there hungry , they eat it
Yes. Pretty much 100% of the cars built since about 2012 have the soy based wire insulation.
Is there any liquid spray rodent repellent that could be tried?
I've heard of people spraying peppermint oil all over the engine compartment, but I'd be afraid of that causing corrosion or some other unintended consequences.
Man that sucks that it didn’t work.
It sure does. I was so convinced this thing was working that I fully expected to find a different cause to the no-start condition this time.
WHAT a nightmare.🫣
Yeah, pretty much.
