Late frost will destroy the flowers by damaging the plant tissue. The best way an the only way in my opinion to avoid the late frost is by buying fruit trees that bloom later. Here in zone 7a thirty minutes north of Philadelphia we have a late frost 50% of the years. Looking at a bloom chart or chill hours of the tree you want to buy and then comparing it to other varieties of the same type of tree is extremely important.
