Compare the interpretations of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra to the ones of Orchestra Mozart under the direction of Claudio Abbado. Which do you like better?
ruclips.net/p/PLBjoEdEVMABJhjc66cvtxhvEaTjEC3hkz
From the Earl of Argyll,
I like this version best.
Thank you,
The Earl Archibald, Campbell of Argyll.
+EuroArtsChannel Both are fantastic performances but I like the Orchestra Mozart one more. I find it more lively, especially the Allegro assai movement.
I love the baroque instruments in this recording (oboe and violin), but I like much more the Andante played by Orchestra Mozart. In this recording they make too many breaks in the Andante, nearly after each 1/4 note.
What I like most is Karl Richter and Münchener Bach-Orchester....
I like the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra best, because the sound of the Period-Correct F Trumpet. I feel this gives it a depth to the sound that the Orchestra Mozart recording, though Reinhardt plays a modern instrument with outstanding projection, lacks.
this tumpeter is insane
it's so hard to play such a baroque trumpet😮
That's because its baroque-in.
That recorder player is how I felt playing hot cross buns in 4th grade on my $3 recorder
Maybe you should audition for the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra.
I used to plug my sweatshirt hood tie into the bottom to make it an "electric " recorder.
Lmao 😂
The old "Band Today" book!Comment of the day!
@Michael Walter----LMOA. I agree. That individual should, indeed, audition for the ensemble. I'm sure they'd be welcomed with open arms. LMAO
I love the way the trumpeter uses next to no lip pressure to reach those top notes. Indeed, his facial expression and embouchure remain unchanged across the instrument's range - quite amazing.
It reminds of descriptions of Bach at the organ.
Modern trumpet players will be crying.
I'm a trumpeter, and I'm proud to say that after years of playing the trumpet and months of working on this piece, I can finally play the andante.
But are you as unphased as he is?
I think Johann would cry tears of joy to hear his music played so beautiful and with such love. I imagine him walking in and feeling amazed at how his work survived this long. It is timeless.
I believe Bach was a blessing to the whole world, through his music, even after death, he brings joy to all the nations.
Aston Magna in early 1980s Smithsonian collection of Brandenburg played on Original instruments:
Albert Fuller, Artistic Director
Musicians Jaap Schroder, Stanley Ritchie violin
Fortunato Arico and John Hsu, cello and viola da gamba
Friedemann Immer trumpet
Bernard Krainis, recorder
Michel Piguet Oboe and
John Solum transverse flute
Also 8 Sonatas and solos harpsichord, but was recorder in 1977 on original instruments in Great Barringotn Mas at the Aston Magna Summer Festival
And just one offering of the museums attempt to open up the historic offerings and current talent I suppose maybe other museums will do the same for the public, and for the players the musicians themselves.
I cannot be more excited when I bought the offerings and every part from the vinyl tpo the descriptions of the programs and the selections, but I did find some prinitng errors on vinyl and in the program, but most won't see the errors, I once after high school operated a copier at the time, a mimeograph machine with green stenciled typed studies and a team of 6 proofreaders and ladies who'd been at a long time former teachers of English Literature and ect, who hated me as I'd find mistakes they missed, and boy they'd get mad at me, and all I could say was I just read it over before stretching the stencil over the ink barrel, cuz it'd be a shame to have to start stencil to finished report and the studies have glaring mistakes, I was just looking after all of you, and they'd buy it, I really didn't want to have to increase my own workload and repeat the job, some of these reports seemed to go on foreverfrom hal inch thick to a full inch thick, and one tiny mistake and well you know, straw broke the camels' back is that it?
I like Freiburger's and no, I don't dislike Claudio A' stuff.
This is possibly one of the most amazing performances of all time. The concerto is freakishly hard, and very few could even perform it in Bach's day. Friedman Immer on keyed trumpet WOW!
Hats way off!
What? You are kidding, right? "POSSIBLY" one of the most amazing? No Joseph. This IS one of the most amazing you may ever hear while on earth!!!
The Trumpet is the MVP.
I heard that brandenburgs weren’t played until the 1920’s, AND that’s a natural trumpet, not a keyed trumpet I would think
This is what real GANGSTA looks like ! I used to anticipate a nice hour of William F. Buckley Jr. as these grand notes would come rushing into the room...
@@ericx.9013
It is a vented natural trumpet in key of F. It has no keys.

This is so nice , Bach really had a fantastic imagination in music to create this feeling
One of my favourite moments ever conceived in music, just that little theme repeating throughout this piece
I believe alot of what Bach composed was used in today s music, that's why Bach's music sounds so modern 😊
Circle of fifths progression - common in baroque music.
That trumpet player is the best I have ever heard in my entire life. In fact the whole group is B3YOND SUPERB. The best in terms of interpretation and authenticity! This music has been supremely therapeutic during some dark times in my life. Thank you so very much for sharing it with us! Very soothing and uplifting.
Adding to your comment, this is the Hall where the concerts were premiered. These are instruments from that time tuned to the A frequency used when Bach was alive.
That is correct. Didnt they ro a number of tecordings at that facility? The Hall of Mirrors, right? Thank You for your input.
As a full time professional.misician of 30+ years w/Master of Music degree in classical piano performance and post graduate studies in jazz and commercial music, Baroque Music History was a required course in the master's program. (Albeit I'm not proficient on the harpsichord by the wildest stretch of the imagination. It requires a COMPLETELY different technique/touch than the piano). However, the lady who.taught that class was/is a world class harpsichordist and an excellent teacher)! Needless to say, we learned from the get-go that authentic Baroque music ensembles perform on period instruments (instruments that were used at the time the piece was composed and that the tuning is about 40 cents lower (A 400-he tuning used at the time JS Bach was alive)than the standard tuning of today at A 440
That trumpeter is awesome! The valveless trumpet (note: it is not a "natural" trumpet-the latter can only play the harmonic progression, whereas the instrument he is playing has finger holes to allow some alteration to the natural progression) is without a doubt one of the most devilishly difficult instruments to play well. That this man can so accurately play Bach speaks volumes about his ability and relentless pursuit of perfection.
By the way, the rest of the orchestra ain't shabby. Really enjoyed this performance.
Thank you for the information!
The finger holes do not change the harmonic progression, but rather allow for fixing the intonation to be more in line with equal temperament.
@@robertlozada4345 Exactly! You can see the explanation by Allison Balsom on toutube.
I had to play a trumpet similar to this (although in D and therefore longer) for university, and at the time I kept saying "it's like wrestling a bear". This dude's instrument is way shorter and pitched higher - therefore his bear was much more powerful than mine. This guy is an absolute monster! And just look at that embouchure! He plays like it's the easiest thing on earth
I think it is still considered a natural trumpet in F. The finger holes are tiny vents that permit the natural tones to be played more in tune. The unvented natural trumpet's tones would never be exactly in tune and the vents are an attempt at making minor corrections to natural tuning discrepancies.
I always wondered if Bach came from somewhere out of earth and was a blessing by god and a present for human beings, it's just that his music is too beautiful.
someone here because of school too?
yes
yeah
no everyone bro
Yessssss
Ye damn I have to answer questions
lol that trumpet player is playing all the virtuose things of the world on a baroque trumpet which is even more difficult and this guy just plays like nothing is going on.... respect to the max
This is my favorite Brandenburg Concerto !
@kappelmeister123 that's why I like #5. It's as if the harpsichordist waits patiently for his turn and then he cuts loose.
Number 2 is my favorite too, David! ❤🎼
Same
Me too & even further mi favorite Bach piece of all time!
Absolutely incredible trumpeter!
totally agree!
of course, but he don't show any expression like others
He's probably holding so still because he's concentrating on not messing up his embouchure.
I actually really appreciate the fact that's he's not dancing all over the stage like some of the others. I find all that very distracting. Of course, it's a bit difficult to dance when seated, although the cello player doesn't seem to have a problem with it. ;-)
fiddlinmacx to perform this music they have to „dance“ - it‘s part of playing baroque music of this kind correctly - it‘s dance music of that time..the dancing stresses the dynamics, but the trumpet player has to look on his breath.with dancing he would have no chance to play it perfectly, to hit the notes - the group is a total rolemodel how to play that music
Absolutely sublime! This is the kind of music that is the antidote to those moments of despair in an ever-changing and not so attractive world.Bach has achieved far more in three hundred years than anything that exists today by tapping into people’s innermost feelings with the result that we all feel better in ourselves after listening to his orchestral works!
Uplifting glorious and heart-warming music to raise one’s spirits in times of sadness and despair. Bach got it right and his music definitely appeals to the senses as few other composers have been able to achieve in such a spectacular way!!
So much beautiful music to hear ..... so little time! As a trumpet player 40 years ago, the trumpet performance is beyond mere words .. probably the rest is too.
That's not merely a "trumpet", it's a valveless natural trumpet, also called a "Baroque trumpet". Has a very characteristic sound for Baroque music, but it predates the valved horn, and thus is EXTREMELY difficult to play fast. The embouchure alone takes years to master, which is why the horn player here is the only guy sitting as still as a rock. He needs to concentrate and avoid moving his head and messing up his embouchure.
+ Arthur Compton
One correction: NATURAL trumpets (which were what was actually used in baroque times) have no vent holes to adjust the pitch which this trumpet has.
BAROQUE trumpets (which are actually a modern invention meant for playing baroque music) DO have vent holes to adjust pitch
Thank you for the tutelage.
Yes his fingulatures were merrily a-dancin oer the brass, were they not?

I have known these concertos for decades and still listen to them in awe, as if for the first time.
VOICI des oeuvres que je connais par coeur. Je peux assurer n'avoir jamais entendu pareille et aussi belle interprétation de Brandebourgeois. Je suis bouleversée émue aux larmes Merci á ces artistes qui me comblent
The guy who plays the Baroque trumpet is the best!
I will forever love the build the entire piece to the counterpoint magic that is 1:36 (I am addicted to major 7's being used this way), also just now noticing the cool counterpoint that takes place in 1:52 as the scales in both directions have beautiful clashes (and the interesting presence of a b natural immediately after a bflat [taking place also in the earlier passage with B Flat Major 7 to e minor 7 (with a natural 5th)]), try the notes of the scales together yourself slowly (sure the perfect fifth of c and g is a bit odd but the rest has quite special stuff). This is an example of one reason I love music from this period so much.
I've loved this recording for a long time.
This was the first classical piece I heard that I actually liked as a young person. Still love it to this day, and this is a wonderful rendition of it.
Same exact thing happened to me! 55 years later, it is still mi favorite piece of music ever!
This has long been a favorite of mine and it's nice to see this live performance.
Hearing Bach everyday is better than any medicine!
I wouldn't go so far as to say all THAT, now. When sick, we need our medicine. Yes, Bach's music is heavenly, but let's NOT carry it to the extreme!!! Okay?

Came here to help ease a panic attack :/ Halfway through this beautiful recital, I'm feeling much more at ease. Thank you J.S. Bach & these marvelous performers.
this eases my panic attack as well
Can we add that the instruments being used are replicas of the actual instruments used in Bach's time frame, not modern ones.
It is so beautiful and it gives you happiness and energy to continue in this crazy world
I think this piece is the best music among what human made ever. so voyager take this to infinity.
"Welcome to the Salty Spitoon. How tough are ya?"
"How tough am I? How tough am I?! I played Brandenburg Concerto 2 last night.”
"Yeah? So?"
"On natural trumpet."
"Uh, right this way. Sorry to keep you waiting."
So true king
This performance is really extraordinary - the mastery of the instruments, the thoughtful interpretation, the great ensemble playing. I don't know what to add except that the trumpet player's skill and artistry are mind blowing. I am happy that i came across this. I feel like I just heard this piece for the first time when I have actually heard it played well for decades.

Bach is unconditionally great, and the performance of the Freiburger Barockorchester is fantastic. Thank you EuroArtsChannel for sharing.
+Wagner Polveiro You're very welcome!
one of the best Bach interpretations I have heard. Really impressive. it is real 'concerto', the different instruments come out clearly against each other, still form a beautiful harmony.
In the first movement, it's so nice how each instrument dialogues with one another. It feels as if you were in the middle of a heated debate among the many voices

The lady playing recorder is awesome..mmm. They're all amazing. Bach is dancing in his grave!!
No, hes dancing in heaven. He was faithful.
IN his grave! I'm stealing that!
I'm an unborn baby and I love this
Funny, I was just playing this music to my unborn baby, and it seemed to love it. It was moving with the music.
Dear Orvar Suretrömmingsson, I hope that now as playschool kid you still enjoy the music. 😍
I convinced my daughter to play the Goldberg Variations to her unborn. Was a great idea.

I agree with all who praise the trumpeter. Bach would like the gentleman.
Whos the loudest peter? The trumpeter! LMFAO
Is anyone ever moved to tears by the beauty and perfection of this music?
Yes! In fact, I'm regularly moved to tears by the perfection found in all of Bach's music. He is truly the most stupendous miracle in all of music.
YOU MEAN BORED TO TEARS! HAHAHAHA,

Incredible, best I have ever heard this piece played
A stunning piece of music performed flawlessly by these wonderful musicians!
To put it simply, absolutely beautiful!
very old still a hit for all the ages to come
eternal beauty
Listening to JS Bach is like touching the face of God. Fantastic performance and amazing players. I especially like the recorder player - she is very musical and has amazing control of her instrument. Best recorder player I have ever heard.
That there fidlar has a fluid touchin. The trumpets are played so clearly and enunciated so crisply. And the recorders are so tuneful.
Immer Friedmann is simply amazing, he plays like a God - the trumpet is simply so beautiful- Bravo Mr. Friedmann I wish to could hear more of you in other musical pieces
Classical music is NOT dead!!! Nearly 2 million views this video has, in the Pop and Rock n' roll era. That's a lot of views.
I learned this on viola (my first string instrument) in 6th grade. one of my favorite songs to play since
Bravo! Applause! Brilliant. Wonderful. Thanks lots.👏👏👏👏👏👏
This piece shows the varied genius of J.S. Bach !

This is magnificent, and quickly added to my list of liked videos.
We're glad you enjoy the concert! You can find in this link (goo.gl/6ztai5) a playlist with the Six Brandenburg Concertos performed by the Freiburger Barockorchester :)
What a joy it must be to practice and learn this music.
It always scares me how well some trumpet players can sound while playing so high. I can get those high notes. Kind of... On good days. Well, that's why we live so long, to practice.
Danny45635 I would suggest he was high, but I suspect not. The majesty of Bach, his precision, his humanity, appeals when I am high
Perfection?
what is difficult is to make them clean for Bach music
there are two very different sounds researched by trumpet player in uppon register, depending on if you are a band player or a classical player
it isn't necessary harder or simpler, but it's a different work. I don't think that Friedemann Immer can play american stuff very loud, he could play the notes with his sound.
Absolutely beautiful music from the MASTER composer J.S. Bach! The complexity of his music that weaves into distinct yet together chords of music is still wonderful to listen to well over 230 plus years later! My sincere compliments to the Freiburger Barockorchester and the EuroArtsChannel! A big warm DANKE from Texas!!!
¡¡¡BELLÍSIMO!!! Gracias EuroArtsChannel
The trumpet is awesome in two way. First He really mastered this special sort of trumpet and second he doesn't move, even if you watch on double speed.
I just love adding great music to my collection. Thanks to all participants including J. S. Bach.
my god. how can a human mind even begin to create such a transcendental work. the complexity approaches a gestalt. i don't think bach was even human. and this assemblage is just brilliant.

Man.... that was an amazing recording.
love it- dry acoustics, clear textural depiction.
avevo male alle orecchie.ora sto bene.questa musica e meglio di un medicinale.sono incantato da questo suono magico.
wow this crew rolls deep
Nobody has mentioned the sound equipment and capturin, but this is a remarkable capturin, for that there is no "room" sound, although the mics must be right far from the holes whenceout come the melodies. The tech crew deserves as much recognition. And how do they play in such perfect balance of volume? There's not no conductator is there?
Video is relatively simple. Audio is hard and very easy to mess up. Right mic. Right placement. Right mix. VERY LITTLE room for error.
valved cornet and period instruments. beautiful.
So wunderbar! It was like listening to musical painting.
that trumpet performer though... wowwwwww
The andante is incredible. How is posible to someone to compose like this?
Maybe never. Composers, including me, have to reach a level of superb power to make something this incredible! And that will be Bach’s level. He is the master of composing music!
My favorite part
Bach was a gift to humanity from God.
I have listened to alot of music, but the 2nd movement is just unreal! The emotional serenity is just spectacular and beyond words. Johann Bach no doubt will always be the best composer to ever walked on earth
Beautiful and so precise.
Elegant,beautiful and very classy!
I’ve loved “Classical” music my whole life. I was introduced by age 5 or so. Truly a gift from GOD.
Congratulations, Brian. 😊🎼
Here for my school work from home... i just wanna listen to music i like ;-;
Maybe try to explore classical music then. I hate this stigma around it. That it's boring and all that. Bach music is extraordinary. He is considered a God in music and I love playing his tricky fugues. Ppl that play Bach definetly deserve up most respect. As its not easy at all
Absolutely phenomenal.
It is great to watch and hear a rendition of this wonderful piece on original instruments that don't drown out the recorder, which is what usually happens with modern instruments and larger ensembles and with conductors that don't know the dynamic range of the period instruments.
Agreed. I'm learning this on recorder, and with the amount of work that goes into this its a shame when it gets completely drowned out. Its so nice to actually hear the recorder this time.
Trumpeter sits like a boss. And by all means he is.
Right? What type of trumpet is that? No valves and just holes I guess? The 2 women on the woodwinds were going crazy too haha
The concerto is written for a 'clarino' or 'natural trumpet', without holes or valves. Neither the keyed trumpet nor the valved trumpet were invented at the time Bach composed the Concertos. Although the trumpeter moves the fingers of his right hand I can't see any holes in the tube.
There are holes that he covers and uncovers to adjust the tuning of the note being played.
J.D. Berends Nevertheless, it is a modern reproduction of a natural trumpet which will have small holes drilled for tuning purposes. This is done because intonation is more important than historical accuracy. There is a recording where soprano saxophone is used instead of trumpet because the trumpeter couldn't stay in tune with the ensemble. The tuning issues with a true natural trumpet make it undesirable for recordings.
The trumpet is built by Rainer Egger of Basel, Switzerland:

You really can't get any better than Bach.
He's the beginning and finality of music. They still use (steal?) his structures, harmonies and melodies
My music to take to a deserted island
9:06 the money shot begins, if you're a trumpet player. You have no idea how hard this is to play on a modern three valve trumpet. I don't imagine it's any easier on a valveless one.
Probably shouldnt be playing this on anything other than a baroque or piccolo trumpet which usually has 4 valves haha
That trumpeter is a genius truly! An angel from the sky

I love that oboe! It’s so natural with all that wood! Man, I applaud you all!
I feel lucky to have had musical education in high school.
An investigation was done on this matter. They found that while kids in high school enjoyed playing classical music, it however was a bother to the other children AROUND the music students. Classical music is best kept out of general public schools, and kept in a special preparatory or School for the Arts type of environment, investigators found! Your thoughts?
