- Welcome to the reworked red downhill trail at Glencoe Mountain Bike Resort. In this video I decided to try and tackle my fear of fast, rocky trails, by challenging myself to find speed and confidence on the Red Downhill Trail at the infamous Glencoe Mountain Resort.
Regular followers of the channel will know that I am not the most confident mtb rider. I find riding mountain bikes on fast rocky trails or technical rocky trails really nerve-wracking. So I decided to challenge myself at one of Scotland's most renowned downhill mtb locations.
Glencoe Mountain Resort is famous for having some of the toughest downhill mtb trails in Scotland. In particular, the resort plays host to the Glencoe Black DH trail. This trail is about as gnarly as they come, and even top riders find this a challenge.
There is however Red DH trail at Glencoe Mountain Resort. Now, make no bones about it... This is still a full on downhill mountain bike trail in itself. Interestingly, it has had a brand new top section installed.
In this video, I decided to tackle my fear of fast, rocky trails by trying to learn and survive the Glencoe Red Downhill trail. I also get to meet the trail builders who created the new top section on the Glencoe Red DH trail.
To help you navigate the video I have created the following chapters:
0:00 Glencoe Mountain Resort Downhill Trails
0:40 Welcome to Glencoe MTB trails!
4:02 Practising the new red section...
5:53 This new gap jump is scary!
7:53 We decided to session some features

If you are new to my videos then expect to see high quality riding vlogs shot in the same style as McTrail Rider and BKXC. I try to travel to the best MTB locations in Scotland finding you the best mountain biking trails to ride, enjoy and explore.
The video was shot on a GoPro Hero 10 mounted on the chin of an Endura MT500 helmet using a R3Pro mount.

Absolutely flying man. Ur a much better rider than u give yourself cedit for. Can really see the difference your training has made on the bike. Great vid, keep it up 🤘🤘
Thanks man. Always good to be able to progress a bit. Appreciate that mate 👍
Really enjoyed this, thanks. Watching your process was super nice.
Thanks Natalie! That's super kind of you. Really pleased you enjoyed the vid and thanks for taking the time to comment 😁
Nice one Jamie, loved the stoke when you cleared the gap jump!! Its such a great feeling when you clear a feature that giving you the fear.
It is, isn't it mate. Almost makes attempting big features worth it! 🤣 Need to keep trying stuff like this 😁
That looks the business Jamie. Always good to see you riding with confidence. Amazingly, this is the first time I have ever heard of mountain biking at Glencoe!
Cheers Darren. Yeah, I needed to tackle some rock after Switzerland as it's definitely a weak point of my riding. Sessioning that one track gave me a load more confidence! Deffo add Glencoe to your list. You'd be well up for the challenge of the black... Gnarliest UK black trail? It could be 🤯
The new track looks insane! Great coverage of it man, your riding is really coming on!! Enjoyed watching this one Jamie 👌🏻
Hey Archie. Good to hear from you again. Loving the new track. Even that scary drop over gap! Thanks for the comment. Hope you are good 👍
Great effort! Like yourself I've been wanting to go for ages, but always too feart. Will give it some more consideration now. That final run you were flying down!
Thanks mate! I really appreciate that. Give it a go for sure! That final run was so much fun. It all came together to end the day on a high!
Top riding Jamie. That looked anything but easy. Congrats on doing that new pipe/stream jump
Looks very well constructed.
Epic views of the surrounding area too!
Cheers!
Cheers buddy. It isn't an easy track, but it's so rewarding to get yourself down it! Will deffo be back there.
Aw mate this video is class!! I’m up there a week on Monday I cannot wait now
Ah yes! Mate, you are going to love it. Think I'll try and get back before the winter comes!
Great to see you riding Glencoe Red DH trails was there myself earlier this year, chairlift ace for sessioning which is a necessity for this trail, well done on the big sends couldn't do these just rode round, one of the rockiest reds I've ever ridden really enjoyed, thanks for sharing Jamie! 😁🤙
Nice one Gary. I agree completely. Being able to session this trail is brilliant. It's by no means straightforward but it is deffo doable. It's so rewarding to see the improvements over the day 😁
Brilliant Jamie. Top riding.
Cheers Rhett. It was a super fun day. Good to push yourself out your comfort zone. Now I'm a tiny bit less scared of rocks 🙈🙈🙈
Love it! Now get the forge up there!
Now that would be brave!
Red DH?! That’s wild lol. Great upload 😊
Cheers mate. That was a good day on the bikes for sure 👌
Awesome runs buddy. Will be up in September for new one in Aberdeenshire then off to FW Sunday n Monday if about fella
Brilliant! You've got some good riding coming your way. I'm afraid I'll be working Monday so won't be riding anywhere too interesting. Enjoy!
Your man is keen with no gloves, armour, elbow pads or full face!
Aye, he's a tough lad is Peter 👍 I think I'd deffo rent body armour next time 🙈
Well done pal,,boy defo done good,👏👏
Thanks bud 👍
Really great video dude. Total respect on that stream gap - I'm pretty sure that I would not have had the cojones for that one.
Thanks mate. I was struggling with that one! Mind games were real 🙈
Same thoughts I had, that took some balls man, well riden
Thanks mate. Appreciate that 👍
Just one word for this one. Brilliant. The Mini 3 pro keeps up with you so well. Top riding. Cheers. Stoozer. 👍🏻
Cheers Big Stooze! It's not the perfect camera but it is pretty amazing. See you've been getting out lots yourself 👌
Yep sure am. Bashed my thumb really badly coming down that sketchy slope on Carn Liath but all healed now pal. 😃@@streetpigeonmtb
@bigstoozermtbscotland ooft! Glad you are on the mend. Injuries suck!
They sure do at my age!@@streetpigeonmtb
This looks red hot!! Looks super similar to Fort William to me in some aspects
Cheers James. Yeah, it's definitely got some Fort Bill vibes. I think it comes with the terrain! They are dealing with a lot of rock on the ground that gets battered by the weather. It's also very tricky to get material up onto the hills. The results are some pretty gnarly wee trails! For my ability it was really good. A test, but I felt I was able to show progression over the day. Such a good day on the bike 👌
Nice to see some trail fairy's ❤
Yup! The unsung heroes of mountain biking 👌
Sik that lad na dnt be sik lol. Great vid dude. RESPECT BRUVA u did fantastic.
Thanks dude. I was so pleased with my riding. Genuine progression. Loved it ❤️
@@streetpigeonmtb defo mate , thing is ur makin me want visit Scotland u n Andrew n laura n Tam . But mite not want go home lol
Ha ha. Yeah, you've got to ride here buddy. It's awesome 👌
I think id cry when i see that gap in person 😂
It's an intimidating one for sure! Deffo a 'speed is your friend' type of send! Would like to go back and connect it into a full run 👌🙈👌
I tried the Black once but must admit it was a challenge. Keen to have another crack at it.
I've seen your vid! The black is a mighty trail indeed. It's something I might build up to one day but the red was definitely a good level of challenge for me on the day 👌
Was going to like it anyway, but just paused to give it like after the gap jump. Well in!
Thanks mate! That gap felt like a proper mind test for me. So pleased I made it. Just need to carry a bit more speed next time. Cheers for the like. Appreciate that!
Well done mate, desperate to get up there and fort bill 👍
Yeah mate. I'm actually keen to try Fort Bill since they revised the course. Looks a lot better IMO 👌
Nice vid! I was really feeling the nerves with you when you were sizing up the big gap, nicely cleared 👍 Top effort getting down it in one shot too. Did you do the black? How was it?
Cheers Ian. That gap was really playing with my head. In fairness I should've hit it a bit faster. I'll do it next time!
I didn't hit the black mate. I looked at it. Some sections are deffo doable, but some of it would just be survival for me! My plan is to go back and session the black to build up to a full run. I was so tired just focusing on the red that I stayed away from the black.
Sessioned this today. What a trail.
Nice! It's good eh? Deffo a 'red' downhil trails. It's a bit more challenging than Spooky Woods 🙈
@@streetpigeonmtb haha just a bit. Can't wait to go back. The guys on the shred shed were very nice and helpful too. Strong chance my friend has been convinced into one of the bird ex demo bikes 😂
@andym21uk nice! Yeah, they are a sound bunch. Your mate won't be dissapointed with a Bird 👌
@@streetpigeonmtb he already has one but fancies one of these blurple numbers 😎
@andym21uk Blurple for the win!
That looks minted up there mate! Al need to say to the boyz. How much was the uplift for the day jamie and were there other trails? Franco.
Hey bud. It's deffo worth a visit. I'm pretty sure chairlift is £30 for the day. I'll stick a link at the end of this comment. There is a black DH which is a proper challenge and also a red enduro trail, possibly with some push. I didn't ride it so can't comment, but if you get in touch with Calum at the bike shop he'll fill you in I'm sure. Let me know how you get on if you make it👌
glencoe.skicloud.co.uk/book/lift-tickets
@@streetpigeonmtb thanks jamie for the reply much appreciated , think we're gonna head up in September once im fit and back on the bike. Keep up the good work. As always videos are top notch. 🤘
Hope you get back on the bike soon mate 👍
I definitely need to up my fitness before I go here.Thats a lonnng decent.
Yeah, it's a tiring descent. I found my legs would tire quite quickly when I entered the rock section. Saying that, it doesn't feel like a long descent. There is so much going on that it is over in a flash!
That looks awesome! Do you think it would be doable on a coil-shocked Aether 9c?
I think it would. What travel are you running on the front?
@@streetpigeonmtb 140mm at the moment, but the fork (Selva) can go to 160 I believe
I'd say on this track it's the front travel that will limit you more. I've got 150mm on the Aether 9C and I'd give it a go I think 👌
@@streetpigeonmtb Awesome - thanks for the tips!
Let me know how you get on if you make it out there!
How much for a night in the pod? How much for the chair lift? Looks a very physical trail that, maybe a double Irn Bru
Ha ha. I think I did an Irn Bru and Coke in the cafe actually 🤣 Chairlift is £30, mini pod is £75 per night... Deffo check the website though as I have been known to talk nonsense every now and again 🙃
@@streetpigeonmtb you have also been known to dribble outa the rear end... when hitting that big gap jump haha fair play!
🤣
What do you find better on the bird, air or coil?
Hi Alan. That's a good question... I'll try to give a simple answer.
I have a coil on the Aeris 9 and an air on the Aether 9C. Both suit the style of riding for each bike.
If you want ultimate suppleness and shock absorption then the coil is a no brainer. For enduro/gravity style riding I wouldn't go anything other than coil now. I'm a pretty 'point and shoot' rider so coil for enduro/gravity is best IMO.
However, for trail stuff where you don't mind a bit more interaction with the trail and want to save a bit of weight, the air is impeccable. I have air on the trail bike and love it on the trail centre trails.
So I suppose what I'm saying is really think about the trails you will be riding most and the feel you want.
Light and poppy with more feedback = air
Heavier and super plush, then go coil 👍
Does that make sense?
You kept mentioning wrong line. I'm not sure there was a "good" one, if you know what I mean. Great riding though!
I know what you mean. I'm pretty sure there were a few lines to be had though, to cut out some of the chunk and get through a bit faster. We spent a lot of time up the top so didn't quite work out the bottom. A good reason to go back though 😁👍
What’s the intro tune please
Hi mate. I'm really sorry but I don't know the track-title or artist I'm afraid. I get all my video music from Epidemic Sounds 👌
Sorry, the awful music put me off watching. If you must have it then at least keep the volume consistent with when you are talking PLEASE!
Thanks so much for your feedback Simon. Unfortunately I can't tailor the videos for individuals so I try to make content that most people enjoy. It's not an easy task, especially as I do this as a hobby alongside work and family, however there are a good number of people that enjoy what I do. Sorry this video wasn't for you mate. At least there is plenty of other mtb content for you to watch. Hope you find something you like buddy. Cheers 😁
I'm not really into trap/dnb but I think the music is fitting and the editing pretty slick.
Cheers mate. Good to get another perspective 😌 👌
Absolutely no idea where this guy is coming from Jamie. The production was spot on pal. Very unfair feedback. Cheers. Stoozer. 🤠@@streetpigeonmtb
@bigstoozermtbscotland cheers man. I'm not sure either. I'm guessing my vids just aren't for him 😁
Would this be good on an e bike?
Looks awesome!
Yeah , no reason why an ebike wouldn't work. Extra weight would probably be an advantage 👌
Nice video Jamie, it's nice to get a realistic perspective on places like this (as a fellow average rider)! 😊
Thanks mate! I'm pleased you liked it. I always try and keep it as real as possible. No harm in being average... There are lots of us out there!!!
