In these modern times of owners like the glazers at United or Kroenke at Arsenal, Roman has been great, genuinely cared about the club, and alway put the football and trophies first rather than using it as extra cash flow like the glazers. Obvs he’s made money from the club but he cares about the club more than a lot of modern owners. On a human rights level, I agree he should leave, but at that same rate, look at Newcastle or man city, or PSG, the list goes on and on. Pressuring him to sell will have absolutely no impact on Ukraine, it’s just the UK doing as much as they can whilst simultaneously doing as little as they can.
So what? If it doesn't make Russia withdrawal we should do nothing? The reason Putin has done it is because there's been no action taken in the past. Putting criminals in jail hasn't stopped crime so shall we stop bothering with that too? We do what we can to make things as untenable as possible.
Oligarchs are generally close to Putin/ the Kremlin, frustrating them could lead them to place more pressure on Putin to accept more Western demands. So the theory goes.
Do you guys really think that UK is the good guys and Russia the bad guys?? If you were looking more into it you will know that both is playing the same game and both has selfish intent with violence always on the table.
Liverpool fan here. Honestly thought that aside from whats going on at city, abramovich has been the best premier league owner in recent history. He truly always put the club first and put winning first, and was succesful at that more often than not. I'm really sad about this, I'm scared that Chelsea won't be the same anymore and the league will suffer for it.
I'm a Man United fan and I totally agree with you this could ruin Chelsea which is a shame because they have been building a very good team. Of course I want man United to be the best obviously but so many players Chelsea signed could of ended up staying in German league or sighed for other leagues it's been nice to see the best players coming to the premier League and watching them shine. It would be the same if man city lost pep of if Liverpool lost klopp it has the potential to ruin the club's like with sir Alex retiring rightly so he deserved to retire but since United hasn't been the same and its going to take a lot longer yet until we are back at the top! But yh I am agreeing with you such huge changes to any club can effect the league and the team!
Much bigger things to worry about that who owns a bloody football club. Get a hold of yourself. Abramovich's money is almost certainly dirty and should never have been allowed in league. That goes for City and now Newcastle. The corrupting influence of this money is so blatant, it's got every football fan bleating like sheep about being worried for the league. Ridiculous. Worry about the people of Ukraine first, football is just a hobby.

“I’m not sat here thinking that Roman Abramovic has become a philanthropist.” Roman Abramovic IS a philanthropist. He’s always giving to important causes, look at what he did during the pandemic when he opened the club up to the NHS and kept everyone employed while clubs across the country we’re doing nothing and sacking their staff. What because he’s Russian and allegedly a close friend to Putin he’s no longer a philanthropist?
Thats the thing though. No ones accused Roman of being Mother Teresa. The bottom line is Abramovich is going to donate over a BILLION to charity and Neville is still finding a reason rib him for it. It probably says more about Gary Neville than it does about Roman Abramovich...
You misunderstand the definition of philanthropist. A philanthropist doesn't have an ulterior motive for making donations. Abramovic (and every other corporate entity you can think of) make donations to improve their standing. It's like those cringeworthy McDonald's adverts about how much they give to good causes. They're not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, they're doing it to create a positive opinion (or more often than not, to wash away a negative public opinion).

Saddest day in my 25 years of supporting Chelsea. He's been great for the game, for the community, during covid for NHS workers, for the academy, a catalyst for huge investment coming into the English game. It's a pity. He's a Russian oligarch, proximity to Putin is probably a safety measure. They're mates. Prince Charles was mates with Jimmy Saville, didnt make him a proponent of groping & molestation. He shouldn't be forced out of the club as a private civilian, he's not responsible for Govt policy.
He led to hugely inflated wages and transfer prices. And by extension more cost to fans as others tried to compete. He has led to 100s of talented youth players being bought by the club at the expense of smaller clubs, then wasted as they were loaned out (if they ever got that far) or never got a chance in the first team. Their tactics even led to a transfer ban, because they bought children. He has influenced a culture of 6 month long manager tenures which has made it the norm and made long term building impossible for other clubs. All from money made in part by cosying up to Putin and at the very least tacitly supporting his regime. He has NOT been good for the game, in any way.

The owners of Arsenal, Liverpool, United and Spurs were the ones most enthusiastic about the ESL. Chelsea and City were unwilling but gave in to pressure from those four plus Real, Barca and Juventus. When the fans rose up Chelsea and City were the first to pull out.
There’s a lot of sour grapes when it comes to Chelsea’s history over the last 20 years especially from United fans since fergussons departure, they haven’t been able to finish in the top 3 or so much as win a raffle, that’s not due to necessarily lack of funds , it’s been more about piss poor management!!!! Now they’re struggling and now Chelsea have hit a bump in the road as a result of a global crisis they’re calling for our owners head, let’s be clear the Glazers are no saints and know nothing about football either, probably the main reason why they can’t win a race!!!!
Obviously Chelsea at the moment are the club under the microscope for obvious reasons and rightly so! I am an ardent Chelsea fan and have been for nearly 50 yrs and it pains me that the owner feels his only option is to sell and as much as it pains me to say it, morally, I think it is the right thing to do, however, with that said Abramovic will be hugely missed and has been an excellent custodian of the club in his tenure as owner and has brought the club huge success!!! Whether that success has come from the use of monies dubiously obtained remains unproven but there is no question of abramovics relationship with Putin and on that basis has created a situation that needed to be drastically actionable!! With my opinion clarified on my club I would like to point out the questionable financial backing of other clubs with Middle Eastern and Chinese money, two groups of people with the worst human rights records in the world by a country mile!!!! Clubs are more than happy to accept money from countries and organisations that have flagrantly violated peoples human rights, supplied weapon systems and arms in the prolonging of the worst humanitarian crisis in the Sudan not to mention the imprisonment of people and torturing those that dare express a view differing to their domestic governments!!!! So when people look to start throwing stones at Chelsea perhaps they may wish to look a bit closer to home!!!!!!
The Russia Ukraine war has definitely exposed the hypocrisy of many people in media and general society. What Russia is doing in Ukraine is light work compared to the horrors China has been unleashing on the Uighur people and the war crimes Saudi Arabia is committing in Yemen. Why are people not jumping up and down and demanding sanctions on Chinese and Saudi Arabian people and assets. Because it's not convenient for them to condemn the crimes done by those countries. But it's convenient for them to condemn Russia. Everything they do is based on convenience. It's not based on moral principles or because it is the right thing to do. Shouldn't war or any evil be condemned by everyone no matter on which country or people that evil is being carried out on. The selective outrage is saddening to say the least.
@@davidtuer5825 id probably disagree with that, if you can checkout Oliver Bullough, he writes books and did a great video on how money is laundered, not just by abramovic but everyone who needs to launder their money. Surely an investment that you make to a private enterprise that you own should be counted as an investment, in any other business money that you invest of your own accord should not be treated as a loan to the company.
What bothers me about this situation is that we've all known where Abramovich's money has come from for a LONG time. If the world were serious about rooting out corruption, he would have been stripped of his assets and ownership a long time ago

Gary questions the money coming from Russia and Saudi Arabia as it’s “dirty” and “evil” money, yet the UK has literally financed bombings of Syria, Iraq and Lybia yet no one seems to call that out, make sanctions or completely ban England and English clubs from participation. The reason - double standards of how the Western media portrays the world. Moreover, the reason Ukraine never backed down from Russia is because they expected help from Europe to deal with Russia, yet no help came after the invasion and Ukraine is left stranded. Chelsea fans are ok with celebrating all the success that they got out of Abramovich's money. But the problem is that they're blaming politics for him being kicked out of English football. The politics of how he made that dodgy money always mattered. Its just that it took an invasion of a European country for majority of people to really understand how close Abramovich really was to Putin. English football clubs should be self sustainable and be owned by fans/people who are clean & don't load heavy debt onto the club. There shouldn't be place for people like the Glazers, Saudis, Abramovich or Sheikh Mansour.

Abramovich literally was Putin's right hand man for decades.

My God. Look at you
Of course you are
I'm a Man United fan and I totally agree with you this could ruin Chelsea which is a shame because they have been building a very good team.
He is half Russian and half Ukrainian
Yeah he also "donated money" for Israli settlers to snatch Palestianians houses and land. He is great.
You misunderstand the definition of philanthropist. A philanthropist doesn't have an ulterior motive for making donations. Abramovic (and every other corporate entity you can think of) make donations to improve their standing. It's like those cringeworthy McDonald's adverts about how much they give to good causes. He shouldn't be forced out of the club as a private civilian, he's not responsible for Govt policy.
I wouldn't try to protect Abramovich by using the royal family as an example. Prince Andrew ring any bells?
He's more than friends. The Russian oligarchs are funding Putin's autocracy whilst living the lavish lifestyle in the West.

Absolutely spot on!!!
I was always skeptical of the term “sportswashing” but seeing some of the views and love shown to abramovic, it is unquestionable how effective it is.

Surely an investment that you make to a private enterprise that you own should be counted as an investment, in any other business money that you invest of your own accord should not be treated as a loan to the company.
Don’t forget Gary you work for Sky and the owner is not an angel either
Shhhhh, don't point that out.

I’m a Utd fan in my mid 20s and every owner for all teams I’ve witnessed, Roman is the greatest owner I’ve seen and hopefully when this is all sorted he buys Utd
Thank you, Roman
You will always be one of us 🙏
But will you mate? Newcastle recruiting I don't think you wanna see what Chelsea is like without blood money
What Roman did wrong?
Can't speak to how he got his money or his links to Putin and the Russian regime but Abramovic should be seen as a good and bad thing for football in general. He did massively inflate the market ultimately leading to where we are today. He was the first but not the last to do this. On the other hand he has helped make the EPL a great league and brought some excellent players and coaches here.
Ah well, as long as he bought good players in...
If you supported another big 6 club who doesn't have unlimited resources making it harder for your team to complete you wouldn't like it. Especially when your older & you know what Chelsea is which is basically West Ham on steroids. Small club, small fan base (in London not twitter gram). Chelsea's karma is here fake team Russian blood money FC
Russian and Arab ownership will only ever dirty the well? They have different morals to the West; cheating and gaming the system is part of their DNA.
@@LA-fr7fx you'll always have dirty money coming into the EPL-or UK in general.Chinese and arab cash is not that clean either.Look at their human rights record
@@burlhorse61 You think all british money is clean?
So the government can cease the Russians assets for bombing Ukrain, but not the Saoudi assets for bombing Yemen
Or their own assets for bombing countless others
Tony Blair is a war criminal why not go after him and his friends
I'm a Liverpool fan and I hated this guy when he was a player, as much as fergie or Cantona.
The more and more I listen to him and learn of how he manages his business, I can see him being a way way better prime minister than who we have. Imagine him in Parliament cutting through the noise and digressions. He speaks so very to the point. I'm actually really impressed. Would he be bent by party politics or even broken? Look at Andy Burnham, he got broken down by the self serving people in his own party. Would Gary be able to hold steadfast.
Why you saying that about Burnham? He's a bit of a wimpy soft left type.
Gary showed his bias when it came to calling his buddy ole out on his poor tactics and player selection. He'd be bias in parliament as well. Its human nature to do so, so nothing really wrong with it, but he won't be no saint!
He wants people - poor, working class people - to lose their jobs after saying something on Twitter. He's been in football for so long, he. thinks losing one's job is the equivalent of a points deduction. He's the stereotypical politician: an opportunist who talks a lot.
@@IamFrozenUnderpants Are you an actual fascist?
People laugh at us but he has treated us better than what owners have done to other clubs , he made effort in clearing a debt, rebuilding clubs academy section, stadium and community surrounding it where as other big clubs have had bad owners
I don't support Chelsea FC yet I don't want Roman to leave. I really hope there's a way back for him and after the war is done and dusted he could comeback.
Good luck Chelsea FC and Roman!
I'm a lifelong supporter, and I do want him to leave. I love Chelsea FC not Roman FC. My support is not for sale.
Ur club wouldn't exist today if no roman
He shouldn’t be allowed to sell the club should have it taken off him
The best club owner of all time. Thanks Roman
the best thug of all time. Sports-washed
I guess u forgot what usa uk ect. Has done 4 Middle East last 20 years.
Why are they asking Gary Neville political questions?
Well said, well said Gary 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I can't stop saying "this moment in time, this moment in time "
Best owner ever and no one can tell me any different..I can remember when he arrived and all the morons who didn't have a clue said it's just a toy he will be gone in 5 years when he gets bored..He loved the club and was a true supporter and made the club the most successful over the last 20 years,Chelsea have won every trophy you can win under his ownership..The irony is all this self righteous bollox from these pundits and sky presenters is so laughable when you consider the UK's history of invasion and our heinous acts in the name of the empire which we never ever got sanctioned for..The hypocrisy is on another level
💯
Can you name a country NATO and the UK have attacked in the last 30 years that didn't harbour, sponsor, support or fund terrorists who had already attacked Western citizens? (Spoiler, there isn't one).
Abramovich made his money having his rivals murdered and disappeared in the oil wars. He's only selling up now to rid himself of EU tax-dom status so he can keep hold of the rest of his ill-gotten gains. He is a scumbag of the highest order and worked personally with Putin to seize control of Gazprom subsidiaries.
I really do love listening to Gary's opinions on various topics. He gives his opinion while trying to keep them relatively neutral.
Roman is the finest example of how sports-washing works. You can get away with anything as long as you give a tribal set of fans new shiny metal cups.
Is "getting away with anything" like how the Caste System worked? The Caste System are like "tribal sets", right?
Greatest owner of all time, - Fair enough he ran a tight ship when things got sloppy but in return he won 21 trophies, historic nights and brought in world class players & managers.. I almost teared when he said the club won't have to repay him the 1.5 billion pound loan.. you won't do that unless u love the club to bits.. Truly a legend, hope he gets his wish of saying goodbye to fans at Stamford Bridge
You're an ex footballer Neville and a decent pundit. Your opinion means nothing to anyone, Leave it to people who know what they're talking about. I don't know why sky thinks anyone cares what managers and players think about political stuff
He's obviously said something you disagree with.
Its sky sports news 🤣🤣🤣 this is sports news 😉
@@purehyperbole5727 I didn't listen to what he said mate, I didn't watch the video. Like I said, his opinion means nothing
@S. hilarious mate, well done 👏
@@amy_17_ Bizarre. I've wasted my time.
Nobody will want to buy the club. I don't think he will sell it in time and anyone who does buy it especially the Swiss banker who is interested will most probably buy it on false promises and either asset strip it or spend zero money. The rest of the top 5 Arsenal, United, City and Liverpool will be swarming around their players next transfer window along with PSG, Real Madrid and the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus. Even Chelsea fans are admitting this is the end for their club's glory days.
Chelsea fan over 30 years, What has Roman Abramovich done wrong? Its not his fault Russia are invading Ukraine. His not said he supports it. I think its wrong taking the club without evidence. Really sad whats Happening in Ukraine and Russia GOD BLESS the innocents and I hope it ends soon. Wars never the answer.
WHEN 'USA' INVADED IRAQ IN 2003 I DID NOT SEE THE AMERICAN OWNER OF MANCHESTER UNITED THREATENED TO SELL THE CLUB.

This was a well done interview with a knowledgeable commentator such as Gary Neville. The information Gary provided I believed is echoed throughout the soccer community.
Yeh forgot Gary studied economics
The reports said he was approached by the Ukrainian government through connections in the Jewish business community to broker peace. I don't think it speaks to how influential he is or isn't in the Russian elite.
Oh, the hypocrisy, when our own country allows Tony Blair to walk the streets enjoying his freedom.
More true words haven't been spoken. Even though I'm a chelsea fan and love abrahimovic
Fully agree
Gary Neville is the biggest hypocryte along with Lie Sports!
Gary from a Chelsea fan , I’ve always loved you as a player and even more as a pundit , for me changed commentary for the better - but please stay out the politics

I actually just read this comment just as he said it 🤣🤣
???WHATS BEEN ALLEDGED GARY??????
The point that keeps getting missed is that if the government seizes Chelsea they will have to pay the wages ... not convinced that will impress taxpayers
That's okay we'll sell them all & donate the money to the great people of 🇺🇦
@@mikem8211 You damn commie.
They won't. They will asset strip the club then sell it for peanuts to an owner with not even half the money Abramovich has. Either way Chelsea won't be carrying on the way they have.

Lmao, nice segue
Sky sports being its usual Ill informed self , very surprised with Gary Neville, he’s usually on point however in a lot of this interview he’s wrong ,Abramovitch was asked to help broker a peace deal by Ukrainian officials
This is absolutely hilarious. You wouldn’t find any ‘pundit’ saying this if it were Liverpool, United or even Man City. Neville and Carragher in particular are more than jealous their clubs are run by incompetent owners. The jealousy stinks in this video. If there is any opportunity to condemn Chelsea, it will always be done. Shame on you sky sports. Absolutely embarrassing journalism and broadcasting. Furthermore Roman is donating the 1.5 billion he’s owed by the club, towards a foundation that goes to help the people in Ukraine. Guess you don’t want to mention that?
It was actually vague wording. Abramovich could easily weasel out of this by only give money to Russian ''victims'' of the war and considering how Putin radioactively poisons anyone who he believes betrays him/Russia, then I would bet that Abramovich doesn't dare cross Putin and that means following the Russian propaganda 100%, i.e., Ukrainians are all Nazis, etc..
@@ciaranoconnell4783 by no means am I saying he's a saint. He's far from it. Just think if he's going to be ridiculed, it should be done with facts to back it, not lazy and biased journalism.
@@sam8893 To me, what is lazy and biased is swallowing Abramovich's PR statement 100% without having a skeptical or cynical feeling towards it. As someone pointed out, he could easily donate all this suppose charity money to reputable international charity organizations' to go towards Ukraine. He doesn't need to set up his own.
'donating 1.5 billion' 💀 yeah easy to donate when you steal billions from the Russian people
More hypocrisy in the UK. A journalist head chopper Arab can buy a British football club without any scrutiny whatsoever, yet a guy who’s done nothing illegal and developed a hugely successful British club like Chelsea over many years is forced to sell or lose his multimillion pound assets? Total madness.
Why he’s involving into everything and what a silly question to ask him. He’s a football expert not a politician or a CIO.
