i always picked the female character, whether that be in pokemon or animal crossing. never knew why it was just something i did as a kid. when i was on the train in animal crossing when the option came up to call my name cute or cool i called it cute, which makes Rover assume youre a girl. and I just kinda.. went with it. there was so many signs from my childhood that show why i am now the way i am. the dreams of me going into my closet and changing into a girl, all the games i played where i chose to be a girl. I even seperated myself from my name entirely in games, naming myself random names, thinking of new people i could be on this run. eventually, i settled on this name, "Kara" and used it for most everything i played. i remember a few years ago playing animal crossing with my mom while we were shopping and she said "why dont you use the name we gave you?" and i couldnt find an answer. that name had become my name. it had been what people were calling me for a while. i remember she said very quietly, "is your name something you want to change?" and then it kinda came crashing down that i needed to confront this. i lost friends, but im still going. and now i know what i am. and im still the same person i always was

I first saw a video of yours from someone sharing it in the Rainbow Collective discord, so it was quite unexpected to hear you shout it out at the end! I've been a member for about 1.5 years and I can confirm it's a really welcoming and chill place with some of the nicest people I've met online. Really great video, thanks for sharing your story. ❤

Holy shit, "boymoding" by swapping gender whenever you log out is so funny. Cute video!! I definitely relate.

I didn't know this was a runescape video I just clicked on the notification for a video to listen to on my way home from work. This is a very well made video and makes me remember when I made my first account I made it female and told my brother the game "glitched". I didn't know how to change it back so I rocked it for years and even role played it some.

I very much resonate with this. I went for years telling others and myself the same excuses for playing a female character all up until I hit that realization as an adult, and I do wish I could have been educated prior to that on exactly this. Love you, Gilg! Keep on keeping on how you do. Also I see that Gabranth behind you, amazing taste.

I defaulted to female characters because I always thought, hey female characters get to wear the cool clothes and just felt right.
I acted feminine in games from like 15-16 and pondered about things for years on years, at like 18-19 I just thought myself as amab enby~ and in my culture standing out is seen as bad so I was just trying to bury my feelings. Just recently now I've started HRT at the age of 29. I was already a standout in culture anyways, but now Im standout that finally feels like myself

Avatars always grant the kind of freedom of expression that material constraints tend to hinder. The other mainstay games of my childhood tended to have your character set in stone after initial startup (like most RPG's I'd played) or feature a narratively-preexisting male character. When customization wasn't an option, I think it's no surprise I tended toward androgynous or non-human characters (like Link or Spyro).
I think it's especially telling that as we grow and are further socialized against gender non-conformity, we begin to feel immense fear instead of euphoria when given the chance to virtually experiment with our presentation. It's empowering when the dominant factors of social constraint dissolve from our lives and we're allowed to fight that fear towards euphoria once more. If there's one silver lining in the unfortunate present of us trans people being the media's 'bogeymen' (for lack of a better word), I'm glad that the reality of trans existence has become something unavoidable enough to warrant discussion because that means that more and more people upon first feeling that euphoria will see that there's a path forward that isn't fear. The makeover mage is certainly a wonderful unlikely first step.
    Great video as always.

For me games are a different world. I like playing characters who are nothing like me. I'm the person who picks the 6 year old psycho girl with a doll, or an old wizard. I'll play the dumb ogre or the wise owl. I do like playing woman. Not because i want to be one myself but actually because it is further from who I am irl.
Still glad you found your way though. Good luck on your journey.

First time seeing your channel, just from the silhouette in the thumbnail I knew EXACTLY what this video was going to be about, I had the exact same experience as a kid.
It also took me until I was around 19 to figure out I was Trans, and then another 5 years to begin my transition. Always felt like I'd be so much happier now, if I could have just recognised, back then, what that feeling was.

not what i expected this video to be, hell yeah 💚 i don't really remember, but i think my alts were also always masc while my main wasn't (as a transmasc enby), and i never really questioned that. after all, i'd already questioned if i was a boy when i was like 4 years old and dismissed it 'because i'd know', i clearly was not a boy! and i wasn't wrong, but i never asked if i was a girl

this game has touched so many lives in a million different ways. it's so cool to hear that for you it's been a pathway to self-revelation. I never thought about it but yeah, it really is a judgment-free method of exploring those questions & feelings. I'm sorry to hear you face some occasional vitriol - what you said about education is all the more important in light of that. I think that stories like yours are an accessible & relatable means to greater understanding & acceptance, so thanks for sharing. happy Pride month! 💜

All I can say to this is holy fuck >.> This hit hard. Runescape was easily my first game that i recall messing with gender expression but never connected all the dots until the age of 28. The Profesor Birch line hit me the most, I always went a girl in Pokemon Crystal when given the option (first pokemon game with gender choice). Never got far as never saved the character should others find out. Similar to yourself it was 1 public venture that really started the ball rolling. I would go into more detail but thats very NSFW and not for youtube comments.
Education on being trans is extremely needed. That and spaces where people are free to be themselves. If that was the case then I could have been happier way earlier instead of trying to battle my way through a depression diagnosis when that wasn't the case, was just trans and as soon as I admitted that the depression largely fell away too.
Also: Woohoo! Shoutout to The Rainbow Collective! Been part of them for over 2 years now and its certainly a great space!

the make over mage made SO much gp off of me when i was smaller... the final time i saw them was during Throne of Miscellenia, where i quickly swapped to a boy & back so i didn't have to get engaged to the prince. it broke some quest dialogue but i was satisfied with my gay little scheme

"I wanna look at a nice ass, not a dude's ass"
I remember distinctly the moment I started using this excuse. For years I'd been playing female characters in games, but I never really had anyone question it, so I never really considered why I was doing it. Then I was watching some video on Achievement Hunter and I remember Jack Pattillo saying (paraphrased)"Oh yea I play female characters cause I love looking at female characters, they're so much nicer looking then male characters." And so from then on, for many years, that was my excuse. Took me til I was 25 to really start questioning any of my shit, having grown up pretty catholic, and even now at 29 I'm still figuring shit out. But damn sometimes it's the smallest things that reinforce that egg.

Thanks for the video! I remember when WoW introduced the gender change service that I leapt STRAIGHT on it with my main (and of course told my guildmates I just preferred to look at a girl's ass than a guy's), but it still took me years to come out hehehe. Also shout out Rainbow as well :3

This is absurdly sweet. Have you officially declared war on Texas?
Gaming is about fantasy, it’s so wonderful because you get to choose who you genuinely are.
Education is ultra important, my kids will grow up understanding they’ll be accepted for who they are.
    Happy Pride Month ❤
