- Embark on an adventure along Yellowstone's scenic West Side. See the mesmerizing West Thumb Geyser Basin, uncover the intriguing history of the Wreck of the E.C. Waters, be enchanted by LeHardy's Rapids, and witness Mud Volcanoes.
The west side of Yellowstone Lake is home to a range of captivating attractions that will leave visitors in awe. One of the must-visit destinations is the West Thumb Geyser Basin. Situated right on the edge of the lake, it showcases a stunning collection of geothermal features, including hot springs, geysers, and mud pots. Marvel at the vibrant colors and the steam rising from the thermal vents as you explore the boardwalks that wind through this remarkable hydrothermal area.
As you continue your journey along the west side, make sure to visit the historic Wreck of the E.C. Waters. This partially submerged steamboat wreck offers a glimpse into the past, serving as a reminder of the lake's rich maritime history. You can learn about the vessel's ill-fated journey and imagine what life was like on the lake during the early 20th century.
LeHardy's Rapids is another highlight of the west side of Yellowstone Lake. Here, the Yellowstone River rushes through a narrow channel, creating a captivating display of rapids. Take a moment to appreciate the power of nature as you watch the water cascade over the rocks. This spot is also known for its excellent trout fishing, so anglers will find it particularly appealing.
Lastly, don't miss the opportunity to visit the Mud Volcanoes. Located near the lake's western shore, these unique geological features resemble bubbling mud pots and offer a fascinating sight. Experience the otherworldly landscape as you observe the bubbling mud and the pungent sulfuric odor emanating from the area.
The attractions along the west side of Yellowstone Lake provide a diverse range of experiences, from geothermal wonders to historical relics and natural marvels. Exploring this area will undoubtedly deepen your appreciation for the unique beauty and geological wonders that Yellowstone National Park has to offer.

Amazing scenery. Seeing buffalo up close n geysers with all the colors. Am having fun. Thanks for inviting me.
Any time! Thanks for joining along! 😊
Enjoy your channel almost everyday. Watch while I WFH while you take us with you. So calming and good for my mental health. Thanks Glen
Awesome to hear! Nothing like a little vacation for the mind while working from home. 😄👍
I was just at a mud volcano in California this past weekend, and it is nothing compared to these Yellowstone ones. That Churning Cauldron was nuts. Such an amazing area.
Yeah, some of them are incredible and seem so violent. Just mind-blowing to see!
Oh my goodness!! That bison drinking and swimming! What amazing footage! A beautiful moment for sure!
Definitely a high point of the visit to the Yellowstone. Very humbling seeing one like that. 😄
Well said about nice things!! Love Yellowstone Lake. It almost looks endless. Glad I came. Hi Amy n thanks to both of you.
Thanks for watching! Yellowstone Lake is pretty gorgeous, isn't it? Would love to see how things look from the lake itself. 😄
WOW now that's an ending! How lucky are we that you captured that bison river crossing and snack break...amazing! I still vote yes for some fishing! Can't wait for more.
Thanks so much! Indeed, that bison crossing was super lucky timing! 😄
The majority wants it! The vote has been put in, I don't fish but man would it be enjoyable to see some of it included in the video. That's why we watch your videos, it's the adventure you take us on and inspire us to get out there to hike, kayak, camp, and we should totally add fishing! It's perfect!
Thanks! Just seems like a fun activity to pepper in here and there. We still haven't made any progress towards making it happen since filming these videos but still thinking on it for sure! 👍
Wow mud volcano that's so cool! Bubblicious!
Probably pretty hot, actually. (Ba-dum-ching) I'll see myself out. 😅
Fly fishing…I would be jealous that I’m not there as well! Yellowstone was my first try at fly fishing in a flowing River setting. Fell in love with it right away!
Beautiful place for a first time trying! We'll have to hit you up with questions if Glenn gets around to trying. 😅
What a cool adventure you shared with us, smelly geothermals, Elks, Bison and Bears, rivers, rapids, lakes, tis a beautiful part if the world, for sure 🥰...
Keep the adventures coming, I love to watch from my sofa in Southern Ireland 💚🍀💚
Blessings to you both 🥰
Thank you! We're back to the desert next week but really enjoyed our dip into different (and beautiful!) geography. 😄
@@CactusAtlas I am looking forward to enjoying your travels with you, love the content and presentation, where ever your callings take you, tis all new to me, and I am grateful 🥰🏜️😎
I would enjoy the fishing perspective option. Flyfishing in Yellowstone is amazing.
It's hard to imagine a more perfect place for fishing given the scenery there.
Long time subscriber here. I appreciate the time and effort you put into this quality content.
We appreciate that so much! Thank you and thanks for sticking around with us! 😊
Great video. It’s been over 30 years since we visited Yellowstone. And yes, definitely would love to see some fishing stuff.
Thanks so very much! We shall see what the future holds with fishing! No real plans as of yet but still thinking on it. 😊
I would totally kayak out to that island to see that ship -- go with someone else as it is always a little safer to have someone with you on the water. Loved seeing the wild life in this one too!
Having extra manpower comes with advantages, for sure. 😂
I think I like the west thumb area due to the lake being so prominent in the background. The bull elk was so handsome. I'm so happy you had such a wonderful experience in the park.
Please be aware Yellowstone Lake can develop some pretty bad conditions very quickly. I know the island seems close, but many have lost their lives in that lake. If you do go on the lake, check in with the rangers on lake conditions and weather that may come in while you are out there. That is a lake that requires good advanced planning and having a plan in case something happens.
Oh, for sure would be planning heavily if an attempt is made to reach the island. Got a taste of how much a little wind can change paddling and it's nothing to fool around with. 😮💨
Loved the bison crossing scene. Sure throw in a little fishing, especially when you catch your dinner.
The bison experience was just icing on the cake that is Yellowstone. So awesome. 😊
Yellowstone is such a beautiful place to visit. I love to visit every year to get away from the city life. I always wanted to try fly fishing. But i need someone to teach me and need to get a permit.
It really is a beautiful park. We seriously underestimated how much one can see in the short time we had. Would LOVE to go back! Once a year sounds about right. 😅👍
Cool shot of the bison in water - have never seen that before. 😮😊
A total first for us, too! 😄
Bison crossin river the best
Not something one gets to witness every day. 😄
Definitely show some fishing! :O)
That's the plan!
As always, great content. I wouldn’t mind you including some fishing.
Just might see it! 😄🎣
This is great! I’ve visited Yellowstone two or three times before but only west Yellowstone. I never made it to the lake so this video is special. You add something unique to your adventures that causes me to look forward to each and every one. Thanks so much for doing this. 👍
It's a huge park and pretty near impossible to see everything in a reasonable time - we missed a lot ourselves. Pleased that we could bring a new section to you! And thank you so much for your kind words! 😊
My wife and I were there last week and I like you wanted to gag lol.. That definitely was the most pungent of all the springs and geysers that we saw. It actually made me cough and have to vent some air through my shirt.. I got a little nauseous, which is rare for me.
Also, if and when Yellowstone Caldera blows, I feel like it will start at the Mud Volcano lol.. jk Idk, but it seemed way more active than anything else in the area.
It’s great to hear someone confirm the same! It was intense. I’ll place a bet on the Caldera being the center of the next eruption lol!!
I would watch some fly fishing content, if you catch and release. I watch Tristan’s Terracotta fishing channel and his SUV camping channel.
We also watch Tristan's main channel. Strangely enough haven't really watched a whole lot of his fishing channel. Need to give that a whirl. 👍
I say fish. Content creation is about expressing yourself through your own personal interests. It is an art form. Express yourself unapologetically.
Love it. Definitely an attitude one has to adopt. Thank you so much! 😄
I think you should do fishing videos, kayaking videos, and whatever kind of videos you want. If you think your viewers would be bothered by some of the content, then you can put a disclaimer/viewer discretion warning at the beginning. I prefer fishing for food as opposed to catch and release, but I promise you that I'm not one that would unfollow because of it. I find your videos beautiful.
So kind! Thank you! 😄
