One of these days, maybe, we will cross paths. I, too, live in the PHX area. It would be nice to see you on the trail.

    Found this place in 1990. There was a guy guarding the mine and living in the cement building. For a cold beer, he said we could go underground and see the operation. I thought that might be my end and declined. Very operational back then and the Gold came from a drak brown dirt with quarts in it. Said he was out there 3 months at a time. Thanks for the video, brings back memories.

    It is very tough to understand how rugged the terrain is, at least from inside Slim. That sounded nastier than I thought, lol. It's a pretty good testament to the quality of the GoPros, and I assume that with the scorching heat, they don't overheat and stop working. Thanks for showing us the lesser-known part of Joshua Tree!

      @CactusAtlas  Месяц назад +1

      It's funny... I've edited a few videos at this point where I actually was in the truck and what the GoPros capture does NOT feel like what the road looks like while in the cab. 🤣 But yeah... don't get us started on GoPros. LOL.

    I get it. Some of my trips result in few photo ops, but I'm usually fine with the experience. However, that road looks stressful. I don't have a 4x4 so I never would have dared take it, nor would I have wanted to deal with those washboards. Only Chaco Canyon can tempt me to drive over serious washboards.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  Месяц назад +1

  • @richardbeee
    @richardbeee Месяц назад +2

    I don't know how you did it, Slim. I was waiting for you to cut in and start the real challenge of the road. Or maybe no real problems. Looked a little wash boardy to begin with but if you drive in the sand, it smooths right out. Like gliding on snow. If you go fast enough, you can sail right over those washed out areas. Someday this Ole goat will come sailing up behind you and give you a pass and a nod and a finger wiggle saying, come on, follow me. Yee-Haa! Then you'll get some time off roading.. what a blast we'd have. 😂😊Until then, I'll just have to sit here and enjoy the ride. Thanks buddy.

    Invest in a tire air compressor. Let some air out of your tires. Drop the pressures down to 18 psi when offroad. It'll make a world of difference. Keep up the great work.

  • @Mike89138
    @Mike89138 Месяц назад +2

    Thank you for these videos. What you are talking about at 33:20 on is something I experience. I have questioned why I decided to some trails solo or at all. But you make decisions based on the information you have and as you get more experienced and get to know your vehicle, it is a little less stressful. More fun when you have a satellite SOS device.
    I had a 2019 Colorado ZR2 which I gave to my son. I got a full-size truck. The ZR2 has DSSV shocks, and my truck has Rancho shocks. The ZR2 DSSV shocks are superior in both comfort and handling, especially on washboard roads. But...airing down really helps. It took us a while to feel comfortable doing it. The ZR2, we take down from 35 to ~28-29. It will make the ride less shaky, give you better traction and help prevent punctures on the sharp rocks. MORRFLATE, EZFLATE and THOR (I have) are all good inexpensive compressors.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  Месяц назад +2

      Glenn bought a compressor. I'm not sure what kind or model. I know he's often biting off more than he can handle time wise. 😟 Always appreciate hearing from others with ZR2 experience, though. Thanks! 👍

    I like easy off-road trails and around 30 min mark perfect difficulty where it's not a "boring" fire road but not butt clenching and actually skipped around the video seeking some light off roading. What I hate is that type road with a cliff edge and nowhere to pull over for oncoming traffic and ruts on a steep downhill you get wheels up in the air. It's your tires sidewall getting ripped by rocks you gotta be careful of on "easy" trails and non-dedicated off road tires.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  Месяц назад +1

      Sounds like our ideal road as well. Agree about the cliff edge type roads. Nothing quite like a good amount of time clenched and eyes wide ahead just hoping that there's no one else approaching.
