@drakelx Exactly so. He has his own goals, and the player is in the way, but, it'll all work out. Patience. To be clear, I played through Shadowbringers and Endwalker in the last 2.5 months, so it's all pretty fresh for me.
Don't forget how many planets he's exploded. And not just Death Starring them instantly, but slow agonizing horrible deaths like on the First. Also all the horrors Allag created. And finding nostalgia in fascist imperialism via Garlemald. Regardless of how sad he is, Emet Selch is still directly responsible for doing to others what was done to his people and throws up a thin veneer over it to justify his atrocities. Emet Selch is still a villain.
@Jonathon Your point is valid but there's one thing I'll need to clarify. The First's current suffering from the last 100 years was not the asicans design, that is the aftermath of saving the First from a near instant demise. Emet sought their death for their cause, but the stigma of suffering was due to the good guys.
Love it. When he finally gives the answer to Yshtola's question, you both hand your hands on your chins, pondering what every single person who plays this ponders. Would you not do the same? And, for the first time, it's established what makes Emet one of the greatest bad guys in the history of gaming--at that moment, you begin to sympathize with his plight.
Only three people escaped the Sundering without being divided: Lahabrea, who we saw die back in Heavensward, Emet-Selch, and Elidibus the white robed Ascien
Not spoiling, but just simplifying what Emet just taught you (and by *just*, I mean in this video. I know you're far ahead now) - Before the "Sundering" when the world got split into 14, there was just one world, and the Ascians were one of its people. - Some calamity happened, which threatened to destroy the world - A group of Ascians summoned Zodiark to save the world - Another group of Ascians were scared of Zodiark's power, so they summoned Hydaelyn to keep Him in check - The two primals fought, and eventually Hydaelyn won - As her finishing blow, she caused the sundering, splitting Zodiark, the world, and its people, into the 14 fragments So both Zodiark and Hydaelyn were summoned by "full" Ascians. It's only after their fight that the splitting happened.
Certainly he rocketed to the top of FF opponents and has comfortably pitched his tent there ever since. Only Kefka and Sephy light up the fandom like him.
I’ve been dying waiting for this moment. Just as Emet said; you’re finally asking the right questions… I’m going to really love seeing you discover further truths and watch your hearts break as you go lol
Emet really be like "oh hey how's it goin'? Here's what all of this is really about lol anyway have fun with your little Lightwarden hunt or whatever it is you're doing"
Your response after hearing Emet's explanation is in the same ball park as of us all. In a nutshell, its a hard pill to swallow but a reality that we finally have understood.
This is the part in the story where you finally understand that the Ascians are more than just mustache-twirling villains, and than in the grand scale of things, could even be considered the good guys. They're trying to fix a world that was shattered, and we're trying to keep it broken forever.
I often wish I could forget I ever played FF14 so I could have that first experience of going through it all over again, so I really get where GG are coming from
“Finally, you ask the right question” The parallel between Varis and Emet, truly father and son On top of that, Emet is referred to as the “Angel of Truth” from FF12 and sure enough he does not ever tell a lie throughout ShB He may twist the wording due to his tempering to Zodiark, but he never lies
*Grandfather and grandson. Varis dad died some decades ago, and it's the reason why Garlemald was in civil war when ARR started. Varis uncle, the second son of Solus, fought him for the throne. Varis only win it during the events of Heavensward.
Man you guys have completely changed how I play ffxiv. Was just grinding tomes last night and got a lvl 80 dungeon you're very close to getting to and caught myself thinking I can't wait to see you guys react it. Thank you for the great content can't wait to see you guys back live.
Teased. We were given no explanation on why they would be Primals, and just raised more questions, like the trailer itself did with "Master Matoya" and "Minfilia". People nowadays mix spoiler and teaser all the time. One tell you enough info that the story becomes obsolete, the other nudge you with a weird information that you want to see how it unravel to arrive at that point.
*SPOILERS* My question is that - from the point of view of the Ascians - why would some break off and try to resist Zodiark when he was seemingly the only thing standing between them and oblivion? That's like someone coming up to you, pointing a gun in your face, and your friend Zodiark jumps in and restrains the guy, but your other friend Hydalean is like, "No! Let him back up and give him his gun . . . I wanna see what happens!" I understand the argument for the sundering . . . But they were facing complete destruction. Venat just completely took it upon herself to decide for everyone else?
I mean pretty much, due to the knowledge she has from meeting said girl in EW she decided to sunder the world and ensure that our aether was thinned out for obvious reasons. She's not supposed to be some valiant hero as she says, her decision fucked up so many things but its the decision she made and entrusted to the player character for a chance to win in the future
This cutscene makes Emet less of a villain and more of an antagonist. To him, he is the hero of his own story, and we are the antagonists.
"Are we the baddies?"
Emet: "Finally, *finally* you asks the right question!"
@drakelx Exactly so. He has his own goals, and the player is in the way, but, it'll all work out. Patience. To be clear, I played through Shadowbringers and Endwalker in the last 2.5 months, so it's all pretty fresh for me.

@@nekopunchi9793 Unfortunately any reply I have would be spoilers so I'll just say I disagree
Love it.

This is one of Emet's best moments. This scene elevated him from villain of the week to greatest antagonist in any story ever.
Certainly he rocketed to the top of FF opponents and has comfortably pitched his tent there ever since. Only Kefka and Sephy light up the fandom like him.

The devil doesn't lie. He doesn't need to.

I think that's why first-time playthroughs are so popular! In a way, you get to relive the experience, but through different eyes.
We get to see your reactions to the biggest lore bomb drop in the game and a baby reveal. Best video ever! Little guy is super adorable.
“Finally, you ask the right question”
The parallel between Varis and Emet, truly father and son
On top of that, Emet is referred to as the “Angel of Truth” from FF12 and sure enough he does not ever tell a lie throughout ShB
He may twist the wording due to his tempering to Zodiark, but he never lies
Well a lie of omission is still a lie. Emet specializes in the partial truth intended to mislead and he's very very good at it.
*Grandfather and grandson. Varis dad died some decades ago, and it's the reason why Garlemald was in civil war when ARR started. Varis uncle, the second son of Solus, fought him for the throne. Varis only win it during the events of Heavensward.
I didn’t notice it when playing myself but wow, at 3:13 Yshtola really does just smack Uriangers butt before walking off 😂😂
Emet may hide some details but he will never lie to you
I love watching this with future knowledge.
Awww yeah! Lore bomb to the max!
19:25 That's a proud father! :) He looks so happy.
Absolutely love watching you digest the lore!
Man you guys have completely changed how I play ffxiv. Was just grinding tomes last night and got a lvl 80 dungeon you're very close to getting to and caught myself thinking I can't wait to see you guys react it. Thank you for the great content can't wait to see you guys back live.
people have been saying hydaelyn is a primal for years, this is just vindication
The story trailer for 5.0 launch actually spoiled this.
Teased.
We were given no explanation on why they would be Primals, and just raised more questions, like the trailer itself did with "Master Matoya" and "Minfilia".

I watch these just for the questions I know yet to be answered
No spoilers but Emet is the best written antagonistic ever written.
After seeing it all again i thing Hydaelyn is the evil one in this story.
Best video ever!
