Just him on a stool under a red light on a totally black stage. PURE. That was all I could feel, just pure music. He was a conduit to another level of resonance.
JJ Cale came to our little mountain town Blowing Rock, N.C. and performed at a music hall called PB Scotts back in the mid 70s. An unforgetable performance! We were just teens then blown away by this cat, JJ Cale! Johnny Winter was there too and he was definitely NO joke himself!

It's a hike or horseback ride again. Hendrix had come out to visit Bob Dylan who was in inpatient care in Arizona. You can also hear Hendrix refer to "Arizona's New Red Sands" in the song Voo Doo Child (not Voo Doo Chile a Slight Return) .
We used to wait for infrequent albums to be released during his career. They were only 15 mins a side or less. Probably because he kept his songs short and to the point, cutting out anything not needed. They were all brilliant of course. Having to get up and turn the record over after 13 mins was a nuisance when trying to court a girlfriend. The music was perfect for that situation, though.
If Jim Morrison & JJCale both collaborated on this great cruising riff...I can imagine they are both doing music together now somewhere...I hear a tad of 'riders on the storm' here...
