Yeah we can't thank them enough, the studio recording is amazing but this performance is a once in a lifetime version. The guitar buzzing, the guitar tone, the calm/courageous 1000miles stare... Everything about this video is mythical and magical.
fun fact to anyone reading, jason wrote this song about his hometown lorain. the first verse of the song symbolizes his old trailer park where he lived, talking about how fond he was of it, well maybe not the trailer park itself but the scenery around it. rip jason, we miss you.
@@zombockerman i agree, that book was a fantastic read and gave some really nice insight into his personal life and some of his songs. its a shame i wont ever be able to hear him live, but im glad that we at least have recordings like these.
This is the first song, I had ever heard by Jason Molina. Words cannot express how his music has affected me since. R.I.P, you will live on in our hearts always.
Does anyone have the rest of the concert recorded? This is the era of Jason I remember the most fondly. Just him and and electric guitar doing amazing things.
Nobody could ever have done it like Jason. R.I.P. Always feel like he gets whatever i'm going through when I listen to his music. This song and this performance in particular are so special.
Thanks for sharing all this incredible old footage on your channel. You were in the right place at the right time with a camera. Likely never thought how important it would be all these years later.
Such a great performance. Not sure what type of camera you caught this on, but it was perfect to capture the mood. It has a nostalgic quality that matches the song. Fuckin love it.
When I die, put my bones in an empty street Don't write my name on a stone Think of the Coleman lantern and the radio And the Cleveland game and two fishing poles A dad and his boy watching from the shore The ghostly steel and iron ore ships coming home Prehistoric, phosphorescent bones Burning high above the water We are paralyzed by that emptiness Paralyzed by the openness Paralyzed by the emptiness That prehistory's gone with each dawn Clearly iron age beasts You can tell by the chains they drag You can tell by the chains that they drag Through the oil they bleed Her crew of crows flying the skulls and bones They fly the colors of their homes I fly the cross of the blue factory flame Stitched with heavy sulphur thread They're not proud colors but they're true colors The colors of my home And I am paralyzed by that emptiness I'm paralyzed by that emptiness Paralyzed by the openness Along the shore, one thousand miles I hear it calling my name I hear it calling my name I never hear it say come back home And I am paralyzed by the emptiness I'm paralyzed by the openness I'm paralyzed by the pain Blue Factory Flame ~ Jason Molina, 2000
I'm struggling with trying to drink or not but when I hear Jason it just I just have to drink and that was his thing but you can't get this type of noise out of a sober person I'm sorry... So I guess it's like you could be a sober genius with no words really or you could be a drunk genius with the greatest words in the world. Take your pick. And you can't get here fast enough..... You can't get there fast enough... Nobody can get there fast enough.
Not true but OK. Jason was a teetotaler for a long time and his drinking only became a big problem years after this. He wrote amazing songs and lyrics years before being burdened by alcohol. I recommend you read his biography for my perspective.

This man should be remembered as a great among the greatest
He will be. once all the trends are done his voice is pure enough to last.
Agreed.
He is for me.
i can think of few if any artists who come close, i wouldn't of been able to deal with a lot of what life throws without him & he's dearly missed
i regret never getting to see him perform live. i adore his music.
Authentic. This music is pure. Any other words necessary? RIP Jason Molina.
How many years have passed... And your songs are still sounding, somewhere in the depths of the Russian south
He’s on the same level as Neil Young. Iconic, unparalleled, unique, unmatched. None compare. His covers are fallacies.
He's Neil Young s Big Brother!
u totally agree -- he actually has MORe originality than neill ever did --
to whomever recorded this...thank you. You did service that most folks may not ever understand.

I always come back to this live footage. I just love his guitar tone in this. So much soul pouring out of it.
Holy shit. How have I never come across this video before?!?! Power in the raw.
Devastating in so many ways.
Love
So much courage
3 years gone. RIP Jason.
One of the greatest songwriters I’ve ever heard. I’m haunted by his lyrics.
they are quirky and awkward = but that's how I like my lofi served up.

Love that his rig has a grounding issue
It's like the leaning tower of Pisa, kinda adds to the charm of such a wonderful performance and guitar to ne.
Absolutely mind blowing artist
damn man...the sound of that guitar though. Lyrics are mind-blowing.
This song is beautifully written & haunting. Thank you for the music you made.

@Malte Laurids Brigge He left because he couldn't play any music and barely got any letters, the nuns said that the music inside made him drink

People think bein paralyzed by emptiness is "hip" these days but it ain't
When I die, put my bones in an empty street
Don't write my name on a stone
Think of the Coleman lantern and the radio
And the Cleveland game and two fishing poles
A dad and his boy watching from the shore
The ghostly steel and iron ore ships coming home
Prehistoric, phosphorescent bones
Burning high above the water
We are paralyzed by that emptiness
Paralyzed by the openness
Paralyzed by the emptiness
That prehistory's gone with each dawn
Clearly iron age beasts
You can tell by the chains they drag
You can tell by the chains that they drag
Through the oil they bleed
Her crew of crows flying the skulls and bones
They fly the colors of their homes
I fly the cross of the blue factory flame
Stitched with heavy sulphur thread
They're not proud colors but they're true colors
The colors of my home
And I am paralyzed by that emptiness
I'm paralyzed by that emptiness
Paralyzed by the openness
Along the shore, one thousand miles
I hear it calling my name
I hear it calling my name
I never hear it say come back home
And I am paralyzed by the emptiness
I'm paralyzed by the openness
I'm paralyzed by the pain
