  • In this video I compare different monitor resolutions. Which resolution should you pick between Full HD (1080P) vs Quad HD (1440P) vs 4K (2160P)?
    I have been using both FHD, QHD and 4K resolutions extensively for different use cases for a long time now and here I talk about my recommendations for the different potential use cases.
    If you have other questions let me know in the comments.

    Once again, a very good and also very comprehensive video! I agree with everything you said. There is a lot to talk about monitors. Even the panel technology is very important and should be taken into account as well. Thinking about huge monitors, e.g. 43", it's also important to think about having enough space and what is the right distance for sitting in front of such monitor. Thanks&have a good day! regards from Vienna 😊

    Great video! I have a question, hope you can help me. I want to buy a 27" 4k 144Hz monitor mainly for productivity work programing and watching videos Not for gaming. i want to be able to enjoy the high resolution and high refresh rate of this panel. But I don't know if my laptop would be able to handle it.
    Currently I have a gigabyte aero 15 oled laptop with a dGPU gtx 1660 Ti that already works well with its own 4k 60hz display.

      There will be a monitor type video coming up but it's quite far. I think 10ms is not a problem for office work but will be a big problem if gaming.

    As always I always click like on your videos before even watching them. Thats how sure I am about the effort you put on those videos. I have the Matebook 14 AMD 2020 (the one you used to have) and I am currently looking for a home monitor for office use. I am looking for a 27 inch qhd. The reason is that if I go for a 4K one and I use the hdmi 1.4b my laptop supports I will have 4k @ 30 Hz displayed on the monitor whereas if I go with the 2K one I will get 60 Hz. Is that reasoning correct? Is there any difference in fluidity and animations for office ues? I am affraid that since I got use to my 2K 60 Hz panel on my laptop it will feel a bit choppy going to a 30 Hz refresh rate. What is your opinion? Thanks!

    I don’t want to have tiny text and I‘m also not sure if Lightroom and premiere pro work well with scaling.
    A 27 inch 4k without scaling would be a nightmare 😊
    (The Lightroom sliders are already smaller than I would like them to be)
    On my 24 inch full HD I can see every pixel which sucks. So maybe 27 inch QHD would be not enough (?)

    For Mac users I would say that scaling can be an issue much more that with Windows. Macs don't scale very well 1440p screens, and if you run them natevely things may look a bit too small... I wouldn't go below 4k with a Mac (unless is a small 22in monitor which could be ok at 1080p)

    • @w2best

      Oh particularly for 1440p? I need to read more about that. Currently I use 4k only for my main monitor.

    • @_Digitalguy
      @_Digitalguy Год назад

      @@w2best Yeah because they don't offer suitable highdpi (=retina) scaling for those resolutions. You can scale lower than 1440p but then you are not getting the sharpness that your monitor could provide. Or you can scale it natively but then things will look too small. Or you can pick one of the retina scalings but things will look too large... With 4k and 5k monitors instead you can get suitable retina scaling

    • @_Digitalguy
      @_Digitalguy Год назад

      @@w2best What Macs generally do is cut in half the native resolution to give you retina scaling. 4k cut in half is 1080p scaling which is fine on anything from 22 to 27in. 1440p cut in half is 1280X720... which is too big on a desktop monitor. So you can scale at 1080p but then lose the 1440p sharpness or you can use 720 retina but then things look too big... Maybe some people are ok with 1440p native, but for me it's too small

    You touched on it but I think it’s important to highlight and might be worth an extra video but upscaling and downscaling can effect your decision on which resolution you go with especially if you are just a content consumer. 1440p is easier to run than 4K and 1440p looks better on a 1440p monitor than 1440p on a 4K monitor. Meanwhile 4K looks better than 1440p when downscaled on a 1440p monitor. So for less demanding games there’s still an option to bump the resolution up. The question is, how much better does 4K on a 4K monitor look than 4K on a 1440p monitor (of the same size)?! $300 better? I dunno. Haven’t tested the two on the same monitor size myself.

    the answer is simple: if you can't afford an at least 3500€ PC (High-End) you shouldn't go for 4K

      I don't agree with that if you do office work. But for graphic intense work or gaming you're totally right.

    OMG, what a very excellent and comprehensive video. Thank you.
    While I could ask Dell, I’m looking for an independent answer.
    QUESTION: With a Dell Alienware x17 R2 Gaming LAPTOP with:
    • PROCESSOR: 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-12900HK (24 MB cache, 14 cores, 20 threads, up to 5.00 GHz Turbo). I can also get the exact same processor, but with only the “H” (not “HK”).
    • Graphics Card: NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3080 Ti, 16 GB GDDR6
    • Display: 17.3", QHD 2560x1440, 165Hz, Non-Touch, 3ms, Advanced Optimus, ComfortView Plus, NVIDIA G-SYNC
    Could I still get full use of an external UHD (4K) monitor?
    Could I still get full use of a Wide (bowed) UHD (4K) monitor like you displayed in your video?
    I especially like how you get 3 screens within 1 wide screen, or one really wide screen for video editing.
    Unfortunately, when I select the UHD display option at Dell’s website, the website restricts all the hardware and software options to lesser ones. Seems very dumb.
